You know what Wes- oak has honey yellow tones, and your sofa is taupe,(Cream- grey)....so the drapes will go really well! You could easily "pop" the look by adding warm greens and even a few warm red things to the room- like cushions, floor mats, plants......and yellowish greens and even dark grey things would "pop" as well.....oh, and grab a paint brush- the wall colour in your pics rock with the curtains!! (Geez,,,,this is fun!)

example of greens and dark greys with oak-taupe- yellows:

I know but I don't think we have a lot (if any) around here, that's the good part of the story!

Now next time Dave tells you you're crabby, just tell him to date her instead...

I've heard that, with insects anyway, that the big "bugs" are more docile then the small ones....so tarantulas are gentler the black widows...which are pretty tiny I think; Mantis and dragonflies don't bite like mosquitos and earwigs.....
So, if I had to be around bugs, I'd want the big ones!
Carl....tarantulas and bonsais might live well together!!<(just a thought )

Thanks Michelle. Will think about what I can add to brighten the room up. Some greens. Hmm I could leave some pot noodles lying around. Oh I know.... a pool table in the middle of the room.

Cheers Carl for the spider pics, I'm off to bed now so will probably have nightmares.

Night everyone.

Well the black widow is quite small indeed, about the size of a raisin (which is why some people don't see it sometimes and end up getting bit). As for tarantulas, it will mostly depend on the breed. You must keep in mind that out of the thousands of different species in the world of spiders only a few hundreds are dangerous to humans and even there some will be dangerous only if you are allergic to their venom. When a tarantula bites you (say, on the hand) it's like getting stung by a bee or a wasp, most of the times it will be dangerous if you have an allergy but otherwise the damage will pretty much be a swollen hand with a strange sensation that will not last more than a few days depending on how strong is the venom. Obviously symptoms and damages may vary depending on the type of tarantula but very dangerous bites will be rare.

As well, you must remember that most of the times the tarantula will bite you to defend itself more than to attack, species that are considered dangerous are usually just more defensive and "nervous" than others (such species are usually more common in Africa, or the old world, while the South American ones are known to be usually calm and docile). Even there, before biting the spider will usually try to flick some hair that it has on its abdomen, since this hair has a harpoon shape it "stings" you in your skin and you get quite a rash from it (that's why they recommend you to be very careful if you get such hair on your skin, you must wash your hands, avoid scratching yourself and, the most important thing, avoid putting your hands near your eyes).

I read quite a lot on tarantulas on several websites but you can also take a look at Peter (Padi56)'s threads regarding his beauties, he explains a lot of things about them very well.

...Geez, that was quite a mouthful for nothing, eh?

I thought about it several times but I unfortunately can't. My landlord told me it was okay to have some animals in my apartment (except for a dog and a rat), he said cats were fine as well as rabbits, ferrets, hamsters and such rodents but I think he may find me strange if I ask him about a tarantula...

Besides, given the fact that males live about 5 years and females up to 25 I'm thinking that when I'll move again the new landlord may tell me to get rid of it, the timing isn't good now (unless I find a 25 years old female but that's another story).

...Oh, and let's add that my girlfriend said no!

In all seriousness, tarantulas (depending on the species) are relatively easy to take care of, it's even easier than having a red fish and I believe they're fascinating animals!

It's actually not that bad! Keep in mind that I'm going back to Montreal every weekend so I see everybody but I'm getting used to it very quickly! I make my own plates (again, some leftovers are useful from times to times but I do know how to cook so I can manage! ), I clean glasses, plates and bowls everytime I use them and everything is clean (so far...). In all honesty I really enjoy studying in a school that's out of Montreal, it makes the whole experience really different.

Well I'm very happy for you Carl-one of the first huge learning curves for most young people on their own- is learning how to take care of themselves; But you already know how to cook etc....so Kudo's to your parents for encouraging your independence while you were still at home!
I'm trying to get my boy to look after himself- especially in the kitchen....but its an uphill battle!

Well my mother does a whole lot of cooking so we don't always have the chance to be free in there (you know how some mums are in that place...I dare you to even try getting something while she's fixing dinner...) but since she doesn't eat fish whenever we decide to make some I get to prepare it. Otherwise I'm more of a chaotic cook so I usually end up taking this and that and make something out of it (this is due to all those years of preparing scrambled eggs with a lot of things with my brother, we did have a lot of fun).

FWIW I got a spider bite of some kind earlier this spring. I don't recall the event, but I ended up with a hard, off color lump the size of a golf ball on the back of my calf. It was sore and the skin was peeling off. Eventually the lump and pain subsided but I still have a mark on my skin and it doesn't seem to be going away.
Weird right? When I told my Doc she sent me for bloodwork but it was so many months later and I never heard anything about the bloodwork so I guess I'm ok. She's the one who told me it was probably a spider bite of some kind.
I wish it had been radioactive. I could use some way cool superpowers.

Very strange indeed! Although it is possible that you had some kind of a special reaction to the venom...who knows? Perhaps it's common with that very spider's bite...

Now I think I'm getting in trouble guys! I've been sick for the past days (in fact, I lost my voice...) and can't help but coughing all the time! I try to remain somewhat silent but I'm afraid I can't stop and I don't want to disturb my neighbors!

I keep drinking water but in the meantime I'll have to bury my head in my pillow...

Ah well! I hope it will get better tomorrow! Have a good night guys!

When I was young and single these were 4 for $1.00. Seriously, supper for 25 cents. I don't know what they cost now but it's probably not much more than that.

Their simplicity was perfect for a guy who only knew how to make a sandwich for a cold meal or noodles for a hot meal.
Win!

I ate a lot of Ramen noodles in the old days. That very brand, Bill. Though I was partial to the gourmet flavor - shrimp. It cost 27 cents. Hahahah!

The ramen noodles were a staple in my single-guy home. I didn't just use the powdered mix either. I'd start with a plain brick-o-noodles then add a couple spoonfulls of spagetti sauce from the jar for a el-cheapo spagetti dinner or a plain brick with 1/2 can of tuna mixed in.
Yep - single serving sized pasta dinner: some imagination required.
It wasn't long before Wendy started sending me home after the weekend with a pot of food for the week.

I should give it a try!

...Of course, don't make me drink this on a Friday or a Sunday, I don't think it's good to drink that prior to a 1h30 road trip...
