I had a recent issue with 2FA in which the use of 2FA (demanded by banks in Canada) resulted in having $27,000 stolen from my account through forced cellphone number porting.
In this forced porting, a person pretends to be you and requests that your cell phone provider ports your number to a new provider. Once they do this, then the fake you is able to put the new sim card (with your cell phone number) into a burner phone and then access your bank accounts (or anything using 2FA) by use of the 'forgot password' function which defaults to sending you a 2FA code to your phone number (which the fake you now has). Using this code, the scammer is able to access all of your bank accounts and move money or buy things using your online accounts. Fortunately, I was able to secure the breach quickly enough and lock down the number (which, working as quickly as I could, took 28 hours). The banks were amenable and held processing transactions, but not before $27k had gone missing. It took several months to get all of the money back.

I’m having trouble logging in from my browser. Have just downloaded authy and it’s asking for a QR code but I don’t know where to scan it from.

You scan the QR code from your "user cp" and scroll down and the bottom item in the list of options on the left hand side will be to enable/disable 2FA. Click on that and then 'enable' and a QR code will appear. Scan that into your device.

Thanks for the quick response. My problem is that when I log onto TRF from my browser (computer or mobile) it immediately asks me for a verification code...I can’t go to my user CP at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If that is the case that you cannot access your user cp, then how are you able to make posts here?
You must already have set up 2FA and entered the validation code to post here. You get the validation code from Authy by pressing on RolexForums in that App and it will provide you with a validation code, that is the code that you then type it into your browser.

It is possible that a scammer has hijacked your account and then set-up 2FA himself/herself. So you’re browser won’t be able to authenticate but your TapaTalk allows posting. I’m sure Steve can work out if you’re the real glimmer and reinstate you when that’s resolved. My iPad has the Google Authenticator App on it for my 2FA and I’ve run into the log-in issue when I use my iPhone but left my iPad at home. Small inconvenience but worth the extra layer of security that Steve set-up for TRF. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Completed with Authy on my laptop. Nice addition, Steve.
I might suggest a similar sticky in all subforums to get the word out of the need to set up 2FA.

I got a new iPhone yesterday and tried 2FA manual entry setup using my account and key on the Google Authenticator app. Got invalid key error message. What do I use for the Account (“user@example.com”)? Maybe that it part of the issue.
I then tried to disable 2FA on the forum using my recovery key and got this error message: Invalid authentication code. I saved my recovery key in a safe place, unless I didn’t save the full key correctly. Any ideas?

So the 2FA is installed? You key should be a rolling one on the app on your phone, changes every 30 seconds.

Yes, but since I got a new iPhone, the Google Authenticator app is asking me to begin setup...scan barcode or manual entry. I tried manual entry...account and key. I don’t know what to use for the account (user@example.com) and also asks for my recovery key (abcd-efgh-ijkl-mnop), which I thought I have the correct one, but maybe not. Ugh! I’ll be screwed when I try to access TRF at work.

I don’t use it often, but used it today and was able to access TRF, so that is a workaround until I get my 2FA disabled or reset. It has something to do with me switching devices...

Ok, I seem to remember some having difficulty with 2FA because of tapatalk, that’s why I asked. I looked on my authy app and my username is one that I chose, not sure what yours would be though.

Adam looks like we’re using 2 different apps? I had the google one and had trouble with it so I went with Authy. Haven’t had any trouble but then again I haven’t switched devices either.

Yes, Tim, it looks that why. I am trapped in the Google Authenticator app. Tapatalk is my workaround when I am not on a recognized IP address.

My apologies if this was asked before but just to confirm, we’re talking about the Twilio Authy app correct?
Didn’t see the co. name mentioned when I skimmed through. |

Man I’m sorry Adam, not sure what to tell you. As I said I had troubles with that app from the beginning. Using Authy I’ve signed onto TRF probably a dozen times from different places and never had any problems at all. I do wait for a new code to scroll up so that I have time to enter but that’s my old age and not being as fast as I used to be.

Hello
Is there anyway that an admin can disable the 2FA that I set up on my account? Or possibly help me reset it? I cannot find the original email with my recovery code and cannot login in unless I go through Tapatalk. I had to replace my router and my IP changed so it is no longer recognized by the site.Any help that you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
