Of course my friend, I’m not suggesting we all disregard healthy choices;

I’m just saying that there’s also a good amount of luck in longevity

Definitely.

I try to enjoy my life but be conscious of what I put in my body. Doesn't mean you can't have a beer too many or a burger from time to time

Oh, I’ve seen how you roll Bas … and it bugs me.

You throw back a scotch and a burger, smoke a cigar, and then you go out on an ultra marathon like it’s just walk in the park

Doctor to patient: "I want you to give up, smoking fine tobacco, drinking your favourite Napoleon Brandy, seducing women and completely forego your nightly bottle of Leroy Domaine d'Auvenay Criots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru.

Patient: "Will it make me live longer, Doc'?"

Doctor: "No, but it will feel like it".

There is a lot of luck involved (good or bad). All it takes is one bad accident, and your life is changed forever.

Sheesh... I'm 36 & TBH in pretty good shape. My BMI is ~23. I was sitting in my ergonomic work chair, not slouching or sitting back, practicing excellent posture when I got a muscle spasm which pained me for ~48hrs. I "threw my back out" by sitting. Getting old is whack.

My maternal Grandad.
He lived on, one big green apple and a chunk of cheddar, several mugs of strong tea, each with 4, that's 4 teaspoons of sugar, per day.
He smoked 'roll-ups' every day from 14 years of age.
He dug his garden in neatly pressed trousers, waistcoat collar and tie.
He survived 'the Somme' and 'El Alamein, but never talked about his experiences.
My Grandad, died, at work aged 93.

As the great philosopher, the lovely, Doris Day once said; "what will be, will be"

Absolutely correct.

Humans are the only form of life on this planet that does unneccesary excercise just because of coercion.

Be more like a cat...

My Grandmother had the perfect answer for this as she said to me many times "Don't Get Old"

I think you are right. I am very lucky as an example.

62. Never "workout", I get my 10,000 steps almost everyday.

Just did a physical assessment for the police department, scored 40 of 50 points in the "50 or older" category. Beat the max time for 1.5 mile walk by three minutes, maxed score on squats and inclined pushups 90 seconds each. Lost some points on seated stretch, and did horrible on plank duration.

My biggest change is since a lot of drama entered our life at home, I socked on a quick 40 lbs two years ago with no change in eating, drinking, moving and it's slow to come off.

No prescriptions, 59 resting pulse rate, normal BP. No pains, however, the moment I feel a hint of plantar pain those shoes go in the garbage.

I can't complain.

---

Before the cardio they reminded us to stretch thoroughly. Myself and another officer did not, and when asked said "So I get out on a traffic stop and the driver runs, I get to stretch before I go after him?!!?".
