Right around 1985ish the 5500 went to white gold markers on the dial. Some of these have a very slight yellow tint. True gold hands and dial indicies were somewhat common up to the late 1960s.

Hy Joe,
Thanks for your reply. Yeah mine are slightly yellow, but the hands are steel, with the pointed ends. it is dated 1970. so fits right into your age zones. cheers! |

Wow, this might be my new favorite thread, even though I don't own an Air King.
I sold one for a friend once, and while it was in my possession, I was blown away at what a great little watch it is. One day... -GW |

Thanks
This AirKing has been around me for a long time. It belongs to a friend, and I am after him for "taking over" since 1981 !

I am looking to purchase airking 114200 white dial with roman numerals. It is new and a co- worker is offering it for $3,400. He received the watch as a gift. Is this a good deal? I'm considering it but am unsure.

Hy Lody,
Yeah a post sounds cool. These borgel cases are under represented in my opinion! they are so stylish and fit right nicely under the sleeve of a shirt /suit cuff. When ive worn mine, albeit on a fairly ordinary strap, it always gets noticed, most unusually by girls (well ladies if im honest) too! reckon its due to the size and classic style, the 18ct helps too? style and getting noticed by girls, theres two reasons to wear them eh? ill try to upload some piccies but im the worlds worst camera operative!!! jb |

Hy Rolex Explorer,
try chrono24.com for a guide to pricing! seems different markets dictate wildly variation in asking prices. so theres AK value to be had!! AK,s have been good value for a while, esp older 5500,s and it will not be long before they appreciate strongly. happy to help,(if it is of help?? ) jb Last edited by jaybee2712; 23 August 2012 at 10:06 PM.. Glad you like this thread RE. It is a legend. Although if you have the Explorer 1 I wouldn't trade that one for an AK
