Another reason I love the explorer II red second hand looks pretty sharp against the white or black dial (not to mention the orange on the upcoming explorer) as opposed to the green hand on the gmtIIc.

No pcl either!

I have received my Explorer II and after a mix up with the extra links I took it today to the Rolex certified watch technician at my local AD and he has put on the links, gave it a pressure test, opened it up and confirmed it is a 3186! I looked at the Parachrome Blu under the loupe to see it up close and the marking "3186" on the movement... I am more excited than ever!

I will get some pics up before the weekend guys!

Still loving this baby and just can't take it off... is it wrong to sleep with your watch on? The ticking sounds is like a lullaby!

Great to see so many Expy II enthusiasts. This is my favorite Rolex because like
many others, I find it the most comfortable, plus it looks great, and to most people
it doesnt shout Rolex, or get attention that way. Mine is from the older series.
Its seen a lot of use and the case has quite a few dents and scratches - which
may appall some, but actually liberates me to wear it 'wherever'. Its a tough watch.
It's actually out for servicing and a modest polish with Dalton and company right now.
I should get it back this coming Friday!

Sometimes, I get tempted by thoughts of a white face! But, so far I've stayed strong.
Here's a wrist shot and one more.

That classic Explorer is stunning indeed! I would love to see some before and after pics once it comes back from servicing...

As another person on the fence about picking up an Black face Expy II, these photos are not helping my cause...or are they? Now all I have to do is convince the wife.

The best way to convince her is to get one for her as well... worked wonders for me! Never heard a complaint again... ever!

The process was simple and foolproof. First, I purchased a Rolex replacement (service) crystal from my watchmaker and then let it soak in a glass of acetone for few days.

The Cyclops then popped off with a flick of my thumbnail. I took the watch and the "bubble-less" crystal by my watchmaker one afternoon and picked it up the next morning. He swapped the crystal and performed a pressure test.

The original crystal is stored away should I ever wish to reverse the process. (Doubtful.)

The replacement crystal and labor was $175. Best money I ever spent. The view of the dial is more symmetrical and the date is legible from more angles.

Fr John,
That is a great pic and I hope you don't mind me using it for my club tag in my signature? Have any more like that?

That is a stroke of genius to just let it soak and then just slide off the cyclops as I have heard of people trying to hit it or strike it off at the right angle... no thank you!

Congrats!

I read somewhere that the purpose of the white and the black was for easier visibility in different conditions. Does anyone know which color is easier to see in what conditions?

Sorry I didn't want to start another thread. Thanks

We should have a similar picture for the much-loved white Explorer II too :)

Compared to the Datejust, GMT Master and Submariner, the Explorer II is much unappreciated by many. Strangely so but at least there is a hugh fan base here

I didn't do any special 'before' pics. I'm sure some pics of 'after' will
appear - soon after, if I love it more after the service/polish
