Last year I actually spent way over 100%. if you've got the money to spare, and it feels right, just do it. Unlike a car, you can always sell if you need the money.
I just made my most expensive purchase ever this week, so I'll be eating cup noodles for the next few months, but I have absolutely zero debt except the credit card I pay off every month, and I have a few watches worth of savings that I don't touch. |

yeah, i got to agree with you that there are a lot of rolex submariners in the wild. but that tells me one thing; it is a sexy watch! it's simple and elegant, and that's probably why it's also the most copied watch ever. a rolex sub was never rare. who knows how many subs rolex produces / sells every year? it's the stories that make the watch. it doesn't matter if you have a tag, a rolex, or a patek. what stories can you tell about YOUR watch? i hope i can tell a great story about my watches to my sons and daughters (if i have kids).

X2. And today yes Rolex watches are expensive but if you want one you save up for one its that simple.I remember my Father saving for many years to buy his first Rolex back in 1982 then he was a coal miner with a family to support. And even at Rolex prices today you don't have to be mega rich to buy a Rolex watch. In the UK if you smoke 20 cigarettes a day thats around £40 a week, give them up in 12 months if you want it enough one Rolex watch that will then last a lifetime and much better for your health.

Ha ha normally it's the people that are new to earning a decent wage or those that just scrape through in to the six figure bracket who proclaim it to everyone... How are any of these complete strangers on this forum going to be able to answer that constructively?! It is all completely relevant to your personal situation and the answer will be based on your own individual circumstances. Sorry if that's an obnoxious answer. |

I got my first Rolex a little over a week ago. I'm almost 39 and it was an early birthday gift to myself. It's a SubC LV as you can see from my avatar. I was concerned that one of my friends at work has a Sub and I wanted to do something slightly different but still really liked the Subs. I'd suggest getting what you want and not worrying about what others have or don't. If you want the Sub who cares if others have it. If you want and can afford a Daytona then go for it.
A word of caution, it's addicting. I'm already thinking about what my next Rolex will be. I've got my 40th birthday coming up after all |

Hey welcome to the forum!
For me, it had to do with my obligations, like everyone else has said. I just bought my first rolex (roughly $10K from Ben Bridge). I used a credit card with 0% interest for 18 months. Of course though, I have enough in my savings and investment portfolio to cover the cost of the watch. I think that's why I also purchased it cause I knew that even if hard times fell on me (knock on wood), I'll have more than enough to cover my immediate liabilities. I don't have kids or a wife so that helps. Just needed to pay my mortgage, insurance, food, etc. etc. BTW, your question wasn't obnoxious at all. I mean, I too had a similar question, but when it came down to it, I wanted a rolex and I could afford it. |

I am pretty sure he works in finance. Honestly I was joking with my first post on the billion dollars. Like you I live in NYC and have no debt and make a decent salary but it seems as though all the money you make goes to rent.
As long as you have money set aside and have a little extra cash to burn then go for it! The amount of enjoyment the watch will bring you isa well worth it. You work hard for you money so you deserve to treat yourself a little regardless how old you are. Also I would suggest buying from one of the trusted sellers on here. It is next to impossible to get a good deal from an AD in NYC plus the tax is outrageous. When you guy from a trusted seller here you save on tax which is a nice chunk of change. |

I am glad six figures a year is not a requirement for purchasing a rolex.

I guess it's just a matter of priorities more or less independent of your income.
Skip vacation one year and you should be able to afford a Rolex. |

If you are so well off, skip Rolex and get something that will really impress the guys and gals, go buy a AP. That is what you are looking for right? Everyone has a Rolex, you need to step it up.

My advice is to buy as soon as you can pay for it, if it's something that is important to you. Prices won't be going down. BTW, I make six figures, too. Two of the figures are on the right of the decimal point, though. |

As long as you are earning a steady check, not in credit card debt and have your 401k started, I say go for it. If you buy pre-owned on here you should be able to sell it with virtually no loss should a cash crunch ever come up. Think of it as a savings account you wear on your wrist.
Several of our execs wear Explorer II's. They travel a lot, making the gmt hand useful, and they are active guys. It's odd that 3 of them have one since you just don't see them much in the wild. It's a watch that would definitely set you apart from the Sub and GMT-Master crowd. Added bonus is that it fits better under cuffs. |

I got my first (& only) a couple of months after getting married. It was a wedding present for my wife. Early 30's, also live in NYC - don't make 6 figures and don't pay $4000 in housing.
I saved up for a year or so on the ring, and she did the same on the watch (as a surprise!) Perfect timing. |

for most of us it has NOTHING to do with our income I can honestly say I need to work hard for an average income I save and save and save for my watches It's a pure passion, not something I buy because I can afford it |

Sounds like your buying into the name to impress people and that shouldn't be the reason to buy a watch. No matter how much money you make... |

This thread is fun. $48,000 per year for rent. Still wrapping my head around that. With a rent like that I hope your 6 figure income at least starts with a 2.
Buy a Rolex. Heck buy two. That's 100% more impressive than one.

Yeah, the rent in Manhattan is crazy! My wife's niece & nephew went to school in NY and they're parents rented a studio for them for $3500 month!

If I spent $200 on jeans I'd figure I was ripped! (off that is)
