As the weather cools here in the north my wife or myself starts a fire in our wood stove to heat our little place as most of the folks do on the local acreages in these parts. We love the simplicity and comfort of the warm, soothing wood heat. All four of our vehicles do not add up to the price of a Daytona - yet we love the ease of serviceability and the proven engineering which has kept them running for 30+ years. When we put on our ROLEX in the morning - they impart the same feeling as the most simple and enjoyable things in life should. Not an investment. Not a status symbol. But a fine piece of proven engineering - a wear it and forget it timepiece. Not to be coddled or too precious to wear through anything. Once you own one - you'll know.

A Rolex is a "want" and NOT a "need"...

if you have doubts...you don't want it bad enough...so the money may be better off spent on something you want more than the Rolex...

My investments are in stocks and mutual funds not watches. I buy watches from the profit of my investments.
A fine mechanical watch (Rolex or any other brands) for me is like other fine things in life that I enjoy and appreciate, an object of desire. I only buy it out of my play money, you should never stress over how much money you spend on it. Sure one can have peanut sandwich for supper everyday but I'd like to splurge for a T-bone or a lobster whenever I can afford it. Life would really suck if you look back on your death bed and have millions in the bank but never know the taste of a T-bone.
If you have the means and think you would really enjoy owning one for whatever reason I'd say go for it.

Some people drink wine out of a box, some people dive a Hyundai, some people steal ketchup from McDonalds...do you want to live your life that way or do you want to enjoy the means that you might (assumedly) have to spend on the finer things in life...

Convince you to buy a Rolex? Your neighbor can buy 10 but thinks they are overpriced so he won't buy any? Really? Are you and your neighbor 10 years old?

As an adult you should be able to decide what to buy based on readily available information and the means available to you.

You should go buy a bottle of Patron. Drink about 6-7 shots and then do what your heart tells you. One can only walk down the path of enlightenment by himself.

I have a Seiko Tuna SBBN 015 quartz that is a fabulous watch. If you are simply looking for a fabulous way to tell time, then the phone will work, or a great quartz as well.

I've worn perhaps 50 different watches over the past 40 years, starting with Timex, but with my first "grail" watch being my GMT from the 70s. I now wear a Submariner Ceramic. I like the quality of the clasp, the new blue lume, the way the second hand glides, the feel of the detentes when I move the timing bezel, and the size and feel of the watch. Mine is Two Tone although I've owned full gold, and full steel as well.

These watches either sing to you, or they are truly a waste of money. If you aren't strongly motivated to buy one of these, then buy a quartz or a phone, donate the savings to your choice of charities, and sleep well with a good feeling. If you are strongly motivated to buy a Rolex, then nothing said either way will have an effect on your thinking. Good luck whichever way you go.

You buy a Rolex because every-time you look at your wrist you will know what love is. There is nothing that you will ever own that is as close to you as the art that is Rolex.
Although polishing the bloody thing 30 times a day can be a pain in the a.... LOL.

That's my opion anyway.

Agree. I have many watches, but always wanted a Rolex. Had it for a couple of months and smile when I look at it, so if YOU don't want one, I wouldn't bother...

I would never try to convince anyone to buy a Rolex. If you don't already know that you want one, then you'd be wasting your money on the watch.

Agree, you either just do it, i decided i wanted one & just did my homework for about 2 weeks & bang LV. I am already thinking of my next quality watch a pam. You are thinking too hard about it, even if you get one, you can re sell the next year & you wont lose that much $.

Why ?

I never convince my friends to buy EXTRA convertible roadster or top high-end coffee gears!

Just let them try it, some get in most still out!

If you have to be convinced Then you certainly can't afford one. I might suggest you look at the Citizen brand of watch. It's very nice and you probably won't stress too much.

What model of rolex were you considering? In case that has not already been covered. I am not a rich guy and I have two. Not sure why I bought the second but the first to me represented the first real luxury item I ever bought and to mark a great new job I started in fact it was also for turning 30 so it meant alot more then telling time. It was for me to say after all the years of hard work from being on the street for a short time when I was 19 to living in a downtown condo when I was 30. I felt like I made it and the Rolex watch marked this time in my life where I felt like a million bucks.

IMO, you should buy a Rolex only if you don't need to be convinced.

I will neither encourage or discourage you from buying a Rolex. That is totally your call, regardless of motive, reason, or desire.

It took me 10 years before I pulled the trigger on a Rolex. And when I did. I never regretted on my choice. Only regretted why didn't I do it earlier.
