For a while I thought the Daytona at 41mm would be ideal. But I'm wrong. It's perfect the way it is. I personally will not wear a piece over 40mm. Forty-one is acceptable in some cases, if it wears smaller.

I'd love a ss version without PCL and more contrast on the dial/hands. Size is perfect.

Beautiful watch if you don't find it too small.

Big congrats on your new acquisition. Amazing piece. Classic, versatile styling with one of the best modern movements manufactured by Rolex.

So, what did you do? I had the same ambivalence as you, and bought it because I was so blinded by the SS hunt. I sold it 5 months later, because it wasn't working for me. But, I came to realize that it isn't the daytona that wasn't working for me, but the white dial. So, I see another daytona in my future, but probably the RG ceramic chocolate or the WG slate/red dial.

I finally yielded. Since the 1970's I've admired the Daytona, but early on pondered why I would want a non-waterproof, non-self-winding watch with no chronometer certification and no date. Well, apparently I wasn't alone since they weren't popular at first most likely for the same reasons, but today I wish I had not been quite so practical in my thinking for that one case. Hindsight is 20:20, of course.

Over the ensuing decades my admiration has not waned and thanks to two major movement upgrades it now has all of the above features except the date. For a while I've conjured up in my own mind that if purchased right might be something I could buy and not lose money, maybe gain a few $C's after a few years like I did with a TT Sub and TT GMT I owned 15-20 years ago. So, over the past month or two I've been searching for the right watch and found it. It's an F-serial that just returned from the RSC in August and would not have trouble passing as a new watch.

The right photo is my inseparable companion of the past 43 years, and the left the new companion of 10 days. They're kind of a nice-looking couple, don't you think? My first impression of the Daytona was how small it looked in the box when first opened, but my attention was quickly diverted to its elegant good looks and I don't think it needs to be larger. It is undeniably harder to read with its busy dial, especially in low light situations, and I might miss the date feature after a while--but its charisma is undeniable. How long I might keep it is not clear, as I grew tired of the two TT watches I had and sold both within a few years, so time will tell. I will certainly never part with my original SS GMT and suspect it will remain my daily workhorse with the Daytona taking up the slack in less stressful situations. We'll see how this pans out, but for now I don't feel any buyer's remorse.

at first seeing it on others wrists i was so-so about it, but now that i own one it truly is a great watch. i don't wear it when i travel but when i'm in the ofc locally i sport it more days than not. with the 24 hr race this weekend, i'll be sporting my daytona and then hopefully seeing some new daytonas on the wrists of some of my racecar driver friends.

good luck trying to control the temptation.

Sold my Speedy, waited for the right watch at the right price. And now it's on its way.

I love to hate the Daytona...just like my own self

Reasons to hate it:
1) No date.
2) Underwhelming.
3) Overpriced.
4) Not very legible.
5) Looks better on someone else.

Reasons to love it:
1) It's a Daytona. That's about it...

Okay...full confession...love this one above and the Panda. Have white SS dial and just doesn't do anything for me at all...but going to wear it today now that I'm thinking about it.

I think it is the SS dial that is bothering you. I have the same issue, but not with other daytonas. I think it is the mirror-like subdial rings that create the lack of contrast (issue #2) and well as issue #4.

It's a Daytona. Indeed. Best reason ever. Simple and straightforward.
