Here's a question: if these watches have a special meaning, and you have no desire to profit from the authenticity, why are you spending so much time and energy trying to convince strangers on an internet forum?

An interesting read.

I felt it might be worth while quoting Jedly from another forum on this matter.

"i can tell you from the people i know at Rolex that its legit ...its a unit purchase but done officially by Rolex and i don't think they are overly impressed by the way its turning out

this one unlike the SRR , the SAS or the CD unit purchases has been funny in that since 5 minutes after it was agreed we all started receiving emails from possible recipient (original purchasers) asking

1. is it a scam
2. if its isn't a scam ..how much can i make out of it
3. ''I've now got it will you give me £40k, I've been told thats what ill get for it''

you get the idea.

shenanigans And blatant profiteering has left most collectors and dealers disinterested in the whole thing and see it as nothing more than quick cash and grab. "

Just as they wouldn't change a case back that was engraved with your initials or an anniversary date on it.

I hope they got the engraving right.
..worse, he also renamed it a GMT11 - seems the II was too hard to reach.

Methinks you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce this one...Dr. Watson could do the logic.

IMHO, the Mods have it figured right - give this one enough rope and the thread should serve as good foundation to warn off all potential victims. Suggested price point is ridiculous.

Now if this whole thing had the right motives from the beginning - say, for example, if the proceeds over MSRP were to be donated to a legitimate charity serving UK veterans needing help - then we'd have a horse of a different color.

Well, obviously JEDLY has nailed it:

At best a Units Sales which includes a personalized caseback (from Rolex or not). Wonder how many Unit Sales Roles does per year and as far as I know none of them was a spectacular collector's piece.

As for the ops intentions: The last paragraph gives us an idea.

Nothing to be seen here - move on

This reminds me of the Rolex/Tudor US Marine prototypes. That debacle was a "special" watch, a very ambiguous letter from Rolex, involving a major watch auction. Everything then coalesced into a disaster that cost folks a lot of money. Lots of hype then lots of head-shaking when it was a exposed.

Sounds familiar...

Why try to promote this on so many forums ? If its for a select few, why try to create hype for no reason.

This promotion is pure comedy. ( the organiser asking if anyone has heard of it)

Posts are alway supported by someone who just joins up the forum an chips in their 2 pence worth ie

Having seen quite a few threads on another site "rubbishing" the claims of the person who is organising this I decided to do a little Private Detective work. Eventually I spoke to the correct person inside Rolex and he has confirmed beyound doubt the exsistance of the watches - confirmed that they are in production and will be available to the organiser in the forces around late Decemebr 2013.
I presume then they will be forwarded to the lucky people who took the "gamble" so to speak

You miss the point !

How sad I feel that after posting a watch for all to see it turns out like a rant , rather than admiring the watch for what it is , all I've heard is talk over profiteering , fake case backs hyping up the watch and duff letters , and its not a ltd edition.
You had be believing the case back was non rolex with all the negativity , that's why i rang rolex myself this morning , which turns out most of you are wrong
Yes it looks like one has changed hands and someone made a few quid so what !
Do you see any more of the 123 for sale ? NO ! So one got through the net big deal !

End of the day it's a ltd edition hence only 123 produced to commerate the retirement of the Sea king helicopter .

Next time a fellow member post some pics , give him a better response than I got as this was my first and last pics I've put on this forum having been a member for 3 yrs I would have expected better that's all .

At least Jedly sort of defended me , all it took was a call to rolex or watches of Switzerland , I gave you guys enough info .

I am hopeful that basel 2014 will finally unveil the long awaited GMT 12. Rumor has it that only my AD in Berwyn, IL will sell it with a letter from said AD as proof. It will have the caseback engraving of a wife's hands wringing the neck of a husband who just bought the "seaking gmt" Rolex for the collection as an "investment".

Has anyone seen this?

http://ukbullionltd.co.uk/watch/mili...ex-submariner/

These things seem to be popping up a lot now! Look at this website, they have quite a few examples. They have it listed for £32,500, and it looks like an ordinary Submariner other than the caseback.

Description: Modern military rolex Submariner made for the Special Reconnaissance Regiment. Offers massive investment potential as there are fewer than 100 of these in existence.

Massive investment potential?

It's just that easy.

Order 100 watches and have Rolex (or a third party agreed by Rolex) engrave them with a military insignia of some sort.

5 minutes later advertise the watch for £20-30,000 more.

I really hope no one bites. It's a tulip investment IMO.

No one else is bothered by the fact that this "letter" calls the watch a "Rolex GMT11" instead of a Rolex GMT Master II?
