Simple answer for me, when I went to purchase one, the non-date sub wasn't cosc certified at the time. So I got the date.
When I went to buy my new Sub C I was used to the date on the watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The cyclops in greek mythology is a one eyed monster which is exactly how I would describe the date sub.

No date 2 liner 14060 for me, because the dial is so clean. The cyclops ruins the lines of the watch for me.

When I purchased my 14060m (2004), I think there were only a few models without a date (14060m, Daytona, and Explorer I), so I opted to choose the less expensive of the subs. Seeing there are numerous reminders of the date around me daily (phone, calendar, computer screen, etc.), looking back, I would choose the 14060m again over the date model. This is based on my ever increasing fondness of the ND's simplicity and the fact that it was and is my only Rolex.

I like the Cyclops- I need the date and also need the magnification. I will not argue that the no date is a cleaner look but, the date is more functional.

Those who own a Sub with date and without date
I personally like my watches to have a date function, I constantly refer to each day's date in my job. However, with my Sub I use it for the weekend/vacation, I even prefer there is no date.

Easy for me, tried both on, bought the one that sang to me the most. Went in anticipating the date version, left with the subc.

I've owned one Submariner and 3 Submariner Dates. The 114060 was my second watch in that long line of Subs. I missed the date (on that watch) and I traded up for the 116610. I'm glad my current watch doesn't have the date on it, but I feel like I will wind up buying a Submariner Date again in the near future.

you know what..i have both the date c and no date c right now and i'm taking the no date back (still got seals only had a week) upgrading to blnr..it just doesnt feel like a Rolex without the bubble. I still liked it and actually thought it was more comfortable as its ever so slightly thinner and lighter but i just felt it was being blended in and didnt remind of its heritage like the bubble does every time you catch a glimpse of it.

I'd like a date but don't much like the cyclops.
In the end, you just have look at them both. Photos are great. In the flesh is better. Go back and forth and listen when that little voice inside gives you a shout. For me the no-date is just a much nicer looking piece. I'm happy to trade that extra information for the pleasure I get from the nicer aesthetics. The idea expressed above that saving money is the only real reason anyone buys a no-date is just ignorant and fails to appreciate the degree of thought which most of us bring to bear on a decision like this. When you are spending this kind of money, you buy the watch that you want. Penny-pinchers probably aren't going for any of these watches. |

I have a Speedmaster Pro that doesn't have a date feature, and an Explorer II 42mm with the date cyclops. I actually prefer watches without a date. I never use it, mostly because once I hit 43, I couldn't see it without my readers, and the cyclops doesn't help enough. If I were to get a Sub, it would be without the date.

It's no date for me. I could have went either way. I struggled with the decision myself. You won't regret either. Both are awesome. But I love the no date.

I had the date, but it developed a fault: it kept changing the date at midday not at midnight.
So I sold it. Strange that the new owner never complained... |

Sorry, but I think the SubC case for both versions is identical. Weight might be one or two grams difference... |

I like to balance and looks of the non-date but I have to admit that having the date on your watch is useful and not being a fan of the cyclops I ended up with a SD4000

The ND was cheaper. Plus it was the only pre ceramic the dealer had left... I'm glad I went that route. I've since added pieces with dates, so it all worked out nicely.

Only owned the SubC w/o date. Whilst incredibly bland and boring hence the flip I do on occassion miss it. For me it epitomises purist simplicity and is easy to set when worn in rotation.
If only they were a little bit scarce on the ground.... |

I like a date feature. Yes, it's on my phone.......dang it..I just like looking at my watch for the date.
I will say this. The no-date is a beauty!
