I understand if it was a family heirloom, but I paid for something so I will use it.

I agree with you. On my home turf I walk around everywhere with my 116718 LV but it's home. I have the pleasure of changing watches at my convenience:) but when on vacation, it would be just THE one. Can't have the luxury of alternating between watches as per my moods.

I acquiesce that watches are meant to be worn, used, enjoyed. Just that when traveling, you don't want to pick one and then regret later. I know i know...it's a silly issue. But it's a fun issue to talk about without coming to a concrete decision.

It's like trying to pick your best suit or pen or cufflinks to carry with you and leave the other equally loved ones behind :)

Thank you.

I'm taking notes. Any other hidden jewels that's out of the ordinary yet can include my wife and child without being wild that I should look into in NYC?

I loved how NYC was projected in "you've got mail" :)

This is hilarious. Something similar happened to me when I went to Cancun. Everyone cautioned me about safety so I left my Rolex at home and went with a g-shock. Welp, it was like a watch show at our resort, and I was crying like Jordan.

As you can see, I'm not an intrepid traveller :) i like to take things slow, easy and relaxed. Right now my focus is on my 6 year old boy and the amount of fun he can have without rushing. Maybe next year we'll do more adventurous stuff like drive down the west coast, do the grand canyon and ofcourse all the other great stuff everyone here suggested/ might suggest by that time.

I have disney sorted, SFO sorted but...NY is another ball game altogether. What would you guys recommend? Also how are places like Long Island, Martha's vineyards, Maine for a day or two?

NYC has always had that allure, that x factor. I wana do the usual touristy stuff but also things which are not on all guide books for NY. I wana take pizza tours, visit the apple store (hoping that the new MacBook Pro might be announced by then), the rolex boutiques, Fountain Pen Hospital, relaxing book shops...argh..so much to do..but I feel I haven't even scratched the surface of all the "fun" stuff one can do in NY.

:) please do feel free to suggest/ insist things that I can add to my "to-do-in-NYC-list". Oh btw, I might end up staying at Times Square.
NYC in one week gives you plenty of time to do it right. Do NOT stay in Times Square. That's a place you visit once, take a picture, and don't go back. Stay where I recommended on the Upper West Side near the Museum of Natural History (its the You've Got Mail neighborhood).

Potential NYC itinerary:

Day 1: Bus tour of Manhattan in the morning (will give you a flavor for the whole city) and then a Circle Line boat tour in the afternoon (relaxing view of NYC from the water). By the docks is the Intrepid where he can see a Space Shuttle and the Concorde.

Day 2: Walk Central Park, specifically Strawberry Fields, the Sailboat Pond, and the Central Park Zoo in the morning. In the afternoon, walk 5th Avenue which is where all the Rolexes and Apple Store and fancy shopping is.

Day 3: Statue of Liberty (make advance reservation) and Rikers Island. see how millions immigrated to the US. If you have enough energy, take a taxi to the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge and walk across it to Brooklyn and back. Visit the 9/11 Memorial near Wall Street.

Day 4: Museum of Natural History (dinosaurs are the highlight of the trip) and the Hayden Planetarium (reserve a show in advance). Make sure to grab lunch at "Good Enough To Eat" which is a great kid-friendly restaurant on the Upper West Side near your hotel (if you're smart and listen to me).

Day 5: Activities in Central Park. Rent bikes. Rent roller blades. Do something physical. Get a tan on the Great Lawn. At night, go to Times Square, grab dinner at Virgil's BBQ, then walk the theater district (catch a show if you are into Broadway).

Day 6: Visit Chinatown and Little Italy in the morning, have lunch in Little Italy in the afternoon. Walk the High Line towards uptown. Find a New York Yankees game at night and go watch some American Baseball.

Day 7: This one is tricky. If you go to Long Island you need to rent a car and you'll hit a lot of traffic. The only fun thing for your son will be the Cradle Of Aviation museum which is chock-full of NASA memorabilia and artifacts from the moon landings including one of three Lunar Modules (LEM) left in existence. You said you don't want the beach, but if you do there are great ones on the south shore. If you like fishing you can get on a fishing boat with other tourists for 3 hours not too far from the Aviation Museum.

As for Maine, it's a 6 hour drive, you'd have to do an overnight and carve out 3 of your NYC days to do it right.

Summary of stuff to see in NYC for you and your young son:

Museum of Natural History (dinosaurs)
Hayden Planetarium (show)
Central Park Zoo
Central Park Conservatory Sailboat Pond (rent radio controlled sailboats)
Intrepid (aircraft museum with Space Shuttle)
Circle Line Tour
Statue of Liberty
Empire State Building (go to top)
9/11 Memorial (somber but beautiful part of town)
Chinatown (food and toys)
Little Italy (food and atmosphere)
High Line
Broadway Show (like Disney Lion King or Frozen or whatever)
Yankee Game

Ha ha ha!

100% true. In fact, I spend more time agonizing over which Rolexes to bring with me than my wife does over her bathing suits. Disney World is the Rolex Vacation Capital of the World.

Agree with you totally. I get not taking a collection of watches lol. I'm just refering to those saying not to take a Rolex on vacation.

Agree

Anyone going to Orlando I'd recommend to stay anywhere other than the 192/w irlo Bronson area. I work in Osceola county and can assure you that I'd never let my family stay there. Disney is great and safe, as is downtown Orlando. Stay out of Kissimmee regardless of how sweet the deal sounds.

In the blazing June heat when you are standing in long lines, even with the Fast Pass, surrounded by the Obesity Epidemic that is now America, you will wish you had something nice to look at, so you want to wear a nice watch and lift your wrist to see just how long you have been standing in line for a ride, for the tram, for food etc. You will look at your nice watch and be reassured that there are some things in life that are well designed, well made, of superior quality, worth every penny, and provide a lifetime of experiences and memories.

You are a brave man to spend 2 weeks in a DW hotel and a further 2 weeks in Orlando. Especially in June.

I recommend the Four Season after you are done with the DW Hotel. In fact, avoid the Disney properties and just spend the 4 weeks at the Four Seasons. Actually, you don't need 2 whole weeks at DW and another 2 weeks in the area. Spend 7 - 9 days in Orlando doing the theme park stuff and then go to Cape Cod or some place more pleasant. Or even a short trip to St. Barths. Because you will need a vacation after the "Disney Experience".

And I agree with some of the posts above. The DSSD with the adjustable clasp may be a good idea with the heat and humidity. Theme park food is very salty. And you will be drinking lots of fluids. The adjustable clasp will help with the swelling.

Ditto on the Cape Cod (my backyard : )

Glad you liked it, the benefit of living here for 40+ years.

Spring and Fall are the best, you miss the height of the Summer and can either see the trees/flowers bloom or the leaves change color. So May/June and September/October would be my votes.

Something I didn't put on the itinerary (but should have) is to rent a car and go about 60 minutes north of Manhattan and take a very scenic drive up the West Side Highway, over the Henry Hudson Bridge, up the coast to Seven Lakes Drive continuing to West Point and then on to the Storm King Highway. You wouldn't believe that an hour outside of a metropolis like Manhattan you are riding through hills and trees and lakes and cliffs akin to San Francisco or Maine (photo above over the Hudson River). An amazing diversity of terrain in these parts.

Hi, guys

Heading to Orlando tomorrow night. I decided to take my Explorer 2 for the trip.

Question: Does Davidsw have a shop too? A place where I can go have a look at his stock?
