Thanks for the suggestion. I sat in a S8, A8 but did not try the RS7.
Actually local dealer has two so it will be worth at least taking a peak.
Car and driver seems to love it, basically placing it and the S7 at #1, #2.

I've been noticing C & D seems to be a really big Audi fan as of late.

CarGurus is now putting it at $21,583 below market value!
And yes I decided today partly due to your advice, that I am going to be patient and get the right deal.
But the S550 Coupe is still my #1 contender right now and that aforementioned deal on CarGurus is really tempting (especially if they accept $100K).
I just hope having no designo leather doesn't impact comfort... Otherwise its very well equipped with sport package, drivers assist, premium 1 plus, etc.
We'll see, I'm going to test drive it early next week... I still gotta love it in person.
I'm gunna try! If that doesn't work out, I'll keep looking and maybe News Years day is the ticket!!
Thanks again Paul for the advice.

Tried the A8 and S8, not really into them (at least until newer versions come out). Even salesman said to wait...LOL.
2018 totally new redesigned A8 coming in a year or so.
RS7 is more newly updated, so on my list. And Maserati, not really that interested, but might be worth a quick look.

Looking forward to your final decision and seeing your new ride!
Nice M6, I strongly it considered before ending up with a 911 GTS.
I agree with color combo comments, but if I can find a really good deal, I may compromise a bit. We'll see, I made a decision to slow down today and buy smart, thanks partly to Paul and talking to some other friends into cars.

Tried the S-cab and while I love it, I don't need 2 convertibles. Though if I paired down to one car, that is indeed a fine choice -
hard to do better in Florida especially considering how quiet it is with the top up and of course comfort off the charts. !!

I guess I'll chime in here... Better late than never I suppose. Audi RS7- no way!! I had an s7 for two years and really liked it but had some pretty significant problems around 40k miles as many others have. Also, that body style has been out since 2102. S550- it's not like it's love and especially if comfort is really the #1 goal. BMW- no thanks, at least for me. Last and not least..... 17 Panamera Turbo- let me first say there is NO WAY I'd buy anything without at least driving this first. NO WAY!! I'm biased bc I my current car is a Panamera, but on a comfort scale I give it a 6.5 out of 10. My wife actually doesn't care to ride in it for long distances bc she's spoiled to SUV comfort. Also, you might not want the 911 weekend car and the Panamera as a daily. Lastly, Porsche as you know is all about performance and functionality and definitely not about comfort, SO.....I seriously doubt the new Pana will hold a candle to the S550 in the comfort category. Anyhow, I look forward to seeing what you get.

^^ Thanks for the feedback Rick.
But I am not clear on your S550 comment?
Quote:
S550- it's not like it's love and especially if comfort is really the #1 goal.
Keep in mind I am considering the coupe not the sedan.

Panamera Turbo, my dealer said I can come and try it first, no obligation. I have gotten 5 Porsches from him so he is ok if I say no. If by some chance it's comfortable to my liking and I LOVE IT, I may tradein my 911(I am eligible for a pull-ahead no penalty) and do another convertible if I do this option. All reviews online I have seen hint that comfort was a key component to the redesign. But I agree that it's very unlikely to match the S550 in comfort. If its close, than I would have a tougher choice... Doing the Nurburgring in 7:38 is one hell of feat for a 4 door sedan. Sign me up if it drives like a Porsche and feels like a S550. Glad I have the right of refusal with no down payment.

But right now its a long shot. S550 coupe is frontrunner until (or if) proven wrong.

My suggestion is to be 100% committed on what you want, seems as though you are still looking (oh RS7, let me go see). Go do THAT first, decide, commit. Back and forth is not a great way to buy a car. It doesn't seem as though you really know what you want (which is ok but stay in the decide mode).

If you REALLY want the S550 Coupe, great, now go find the one YOU want (don't chase the deal because it's a deal car like that silver one). You will have to live with it, so love it.

Plenty of deals to be had, but you have to be serious about pulling the trigger. When the right one presents itself buy it and don't look back.

My 02. Good luck and look forward to what you buy.

Ok, as far as the S550 goes in the comfort- I don't like it, I LOVE it!!! It's off the charts comfy. You have a tough choice but it reminds me of all the posts of guys choosing bw the white or black dial Daytona. There is no wrong choice....... I'll add that the Panamera is my favorite car of all time, and I too have heard that Porsche took into account the concerns about comfort. It almost seems like the feel the same as Rolex when customers comment about how heavy the Platona is......

Getting a deal on the S550 coupe at say $100k is one thing but if you're not going to be totally happy w the color or options, perhaps looking for one that is better spec'd might be worth ur time.

The S550 coupe is very comfortable and the interior is well done. I'd prefer it over an Audi or even the Panamera.

I'm with Metacomet on the Bentley recommendation.

S550 is a Big Dog wannabe car.

Step out of the minor league Mercedes S550 into the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and show the world you have arrived.

Update: Broke up with long time girlfriend of 5 years this week and got back my 2016 X4 I got her.

I have to say compared to my X5M the seats are really comfy in the BMW X4. Driving it home today, I was really surprised at the comfort. Maybe too early to tell, but might serve the purpose of comfort/travel car/utility vehicle..

I am shuffling cars around, certainly don't need 3 cars. One comfort/utility and one sports car convertible.

Priorities REALLY changed this past couple days so I'll update as I know more.
Porsche has best possibility of going from 3-->2 as 911 is eligible for pull-ahead with zero penalty.
So trade in 911 GTS AND X5M, and only have negative equity with X5M as before, but I can get a new Porsche!

The prize could be a 911 Turbo Cab that is incoming end of month. Honestly that gets me pumped up a little more than an S class, as I have had my 2015 GTS for 20 months (long for me...LOL).

I might trade in X4 later this year for something like an S-class, we'll see. So all this test driving and feedback will perhaps end up as time well spent.
I am curious to see how the X4 feels on longer drives. I'll find out soon enough as I plan on driving home for Christmas.
I don't take all THAT many long trips. More of the 2-4 hour variety but comfort does really help. I find anything over 90 minutes in my 911 wears on my back.
Usually my 911s have been just fine for in town commuting (and racing...LOL). Exception being when back issues flair up.

I find myself WANTING to drive my 911s over the past several years, whereas my SUVs (or a comfy Sedan) I find myself NEEDING to drive because of comfort/longer distance/weather, etc.

Anyway, I am loving life, and honestly feel relieved of the burden of relationship that has been broken for some time now.

Perhaps I'll spread my new wings of freedom in a 2017 911 Turbo Cab
We'll see, a lot has happened past two days and its been stressful... I think a more sporty change-up is in the cards.
Crazy thread, I know, at least not boring...

If the S550 is your frontrunner... Get your S550.... BUT... get the exact color, inside and out, and the options that you really want...

Before I got my S550, I had two CL's. the first was white, the second was black. I was never happy with my first one in white... It's just a color, and I suppose this is high class problems you should not complain about, but... I could, and I did.

My dealer, as well as my friends, said the same thing - this car (referring to BOTH the S550 and it's predecessor, the CL - were MADE to be black).

I agree. But even so, if black is not YOUR choice, get the color -exterior and interior, and the options that are your choice. My two cents: Dont compromise. Its too much money to compromise...

And the S550 is unsurpassed in comfort.

If anyone wants to start talking Bentley, lets talk AMG S63 :-)

Look forward to seeing you in your new ride!

T, In NJ.

^^ Thanks Tom, had some recent developments. I think you posted almost the same time I did ...LOL
I would go for AMG S63 over preowned Bentley (to get costs equal).
My friend knows Mike Bibby former NBA player who currently has a Bentley and even he complains about maintenance/service costs...LOL
And his net worth is 60 million.
If I get up to Bentley level budget, I would skip to a RR Ghost. I recently sat in a few different Bentleys then a Ghost.. RR please.
Personally I am not there yet $$, but man those RR's are nice!!!

Well read the thread. Sorry aboutnthe break up but sounds like all for the better.

To answer the first queston. Never been a Merc fan, ever. Got a chance to ride and drive ine for a couple of days. I am now a huge fan. Man that car has it all when you use the word luxury.

Now for the 991.2 Turbo Cab. Get one and get the 18 ways and I think you will find long trips no problem. Wife and I take our 991.1 TT Cab on plenty of long road trips with zero issues. Actually planning a 1700 mile spring break trip up around western CO and Utah with a few PCA friends.

Good luck in all the choices.

Thanks for the feedback...
And beautiful picture! I got the first 991.1 my dealer received and it was a Carerra S (not cab) but with same Silver/Black color combo.
Only 911 I got that was a hardtop. Prefer the convertibles living in Florida.

I have the 18 way on my current 991.1 GTS which I like better than my X5M seats. It seems to me the 991.2 are the same. I am test driving the seats tomorrow (lol) since no Turbo in yet, but they have 991.2's with both 14 and 18 way.
Funny I like the 991.1 GT3 alcantara seats... That is tempting too. But I did not test drive yet, but was surprised at how good they felt sitting in the car stationary. I know GT3s drive stiffer and rougher in general, but seats felt nice.

Might end up with the 911 Turbo Cab and a S550 later this year if X4 doesn't work. We'll see.
Thanks again, your feelings of the Merc mirror mine. 11 Bmws and 5 Porsches past 8 years.
But the S550 opened my eyes this year... Problem was I was looking at the wrong Mercs past 7-8 years ignoring their flagship S class.

Which Car would you choose for comfort - BMW/Merc/Audi

Us Europeans have a different view on MB. They are workhorses and high quality...thats why they are used as Taxi cabs
So, i have that analogy...taxi cab, everywhere
No matter hiw nice the car is

Id get Audi

I know you will find another girlfriend soon. I dropped my X-Wife for embezzlement and since I had a child with her, I'm still paying her...Go-Figure

As far as the Mercedes, I have tried a few, and I have found that the older 2016 E Class models were the last year for Non Run-Flat tires. This simply provides a way better ride than all models with Run-Flat or the new term, "extended mobility..."

The S-Class was too soft and floaty, not counting the S63, and the C-class to harse of a ride. I found the TT v-6 E400 to be a nice balance between sport and Luxury. It has a S Switch for sportier ride including adjustable Springs, throttle and transmission mapping. Plus, the 6 cylinder E400 is soo much lighter and nimble than the 8 cylinder Merc's of yore.

I have the E400 and am looking to add a 991.1 S CAB, or a GTS CAB with the leather Seats... On your GTS, you said you had the 18's ... Leather? How soon are you looking to sell...?

Thanks for the Feedback. I did not find the S550 coupe to be too floaty. Drove very nice and super comfy. Of all the Mercs I looked at, its the #1 contender along with Cab.
GTS I have does have leather 18-way seats. Still considering my options. PM me.

S550 is a car suited for the travelor. Rear seat technology and space make it a joy to ride in. I have never been in a BMW 750. The 5 series I ride in feels very stiff. Audi is a fine car, but I haven't joined the craze.
