If used Rolex an Explorer 1, either a 14270 or an 114270

If new Tudor the BB as said above a nice choice

for me personally: nomos if I wanted something on the small/subtle side, IWC 3714 if I could scrounge together another $700-1200 (depending on the dealer), and otherwise an IWC mark xviii (blue dial in particular is gorgeous).

As some here have mentioned, Tudor Black Bay Red or a Speedy.
I own and love both of these. Wearing my Speedy right now....

I'm with fishingbear, sickened1, osamu, Fleetlord, droptopman, Etschell, and all the others (please don't be offended if I didn't call your name): 5-digit Explorer II (currently a bargain) or vintage El Primero (one of the most amazing chronographs ever made).

If you could stretch your budget a bit I concur with this! If not then I would go the Speedmaster Professional route either pre-owned or from a reputable gray market dealer.

I'm a huge Omega Speedmaster fan, but I love the idea of the Tudor Black Bay or Pelagos. The Speedmaster is a whole different animal compared to a Rolex. Especially the Rolex divers. But the Tudors are pretty close. I'd go with a Black Bay.

If new go with Tudor (black bay or pelagos...pelagos if you'd like something lighter on your wrist - the newer in house movements have a 72 hour power reserve). If used you could find a decent no date sub. Good luck!
