What i like the most about older models is the chamfers, the bevel edges and patina on vintage.
Here is a modern iteration of a 114060 (custom made using an authentic 114060).
Rolex could easily do that (and better) and increase sales with fans of the vintage and 5 digit sports references:
Shaving the lugs still doesn't work imo. The increased radius of the bezel just doesn't sit right with me. That, whilst only a fraction combined with the unnecessary bulk applied to the case is enough of a number to make the latest Sub a giant Nono for me.

That's a lot of metal to be shaved off. Besides the sharp edges, I like it better than stock 114060.

I haven't bought a 5 digit reference since the 6s were introduced.

Personally, I enjoy the wider lugs and have found, since I joined this forum many years ago now, most folks on here have an insanely hard time with any sort of change to what they feel is perfect. Fact is, if the situation were flipped, most of you would be complaining about how the new slimmer lugs make the watches look smaller, less rugged, or more feminine...... which I actually think they do. By making the lugs a little thicker etc, Rolex was able to pull off some visual trickery that makes the watches look a hair larger without actually making them larger. This helps them compete with the gigantic styles of so many competitors.... oh and for those who are continuously living in the delusion, no, the sizes will not decrease, nor the lugs, etc. if they were, if Rolex all of a sudden decided the proportions were wrong, that probably would've happened years ago. These sports models have been out since 06. They stand on their own. And if I were to guess, theirs yoy sales are probably higher than any of their predecessors....buuuuut we'll never know that one.....

I think it's possible sooner than you think. Especially, if the SD4K moves to 42mm, then Rolex may have a nice supply of slimmer lug dive cases needing homes.

I am not in the market, but if I was: yes, I would avoid probably all fat lugs models.

Nope. Fifty years young. I prefer the Maxicase with its larger lugs. In my opinion the modern GMTs look more balanced to my eye. The bezel fits. As I get closer to my second I'm considering a 16710 but I just don't care that much for the twin lock crown or the way the Bezel overhangs the case. Like others have said, the Maxicase is a return to the more original rolex designs. I'll probably end up with a BLNR when I drop my LN off for a service in a year or two. Or a 114060. Decisions, decisions. . .

I agree with you wholeheartedly. For some, change is hard. But Rolex sells every new Sub they make. And in certain markets of the world, you have to go on a waiting list or a wild goose chase to hunt down a steel Submariner. Why would Rolex revert back to the old?

I preferred 5 digit references until I got my 116610LV. I now prefer 6 digit references.

I find it interesting how many Yays and Nays we have toward the new design. I'm a Yay so for me i'm flabbergasted by anyone who doesn't automatically fall in love with the bigger case design. I'm a bigger guy so i guess it's relative. The previous design on me when i wore it looked like i was wearing my nieces Dora the Explorer watch.

Everyone has their view, and you will too. I had my doubts about the 116610 until having the opportunity to try it on together with an incredible specimen of a 16610. For me, the newer model is simply superior in every way, no doubt about it. But that's just me (I got rid of my 993 for a 991, and still have people telling me I am crazy for having done that too). I guess I am just more modern-oriented than vintage. Embrace the fat lugs, I say.

Wearing a "fat-lugged" watch is like going on a date with a chubby gal............................................... ..........

You don't mind unless your friends see you.
