Depends on what you paid and if you can stomach the loss or justify the extra money. Secondary mkt is betw 50-55K for white dial

No way IMO. I am not hating on the 5170 but that reference unfortunately has not performed well and if anything helped the status of the 5070P. 5170P is intriguing but do not foresee it having the collectability of the 5070

Although the 5070P is a nice watch, I personally think it is overpriced. The 5170P is IMO a bargain relative to the secondary market price of the 5070P. Ultimately you have to purchase a watch that will make you happy, whether you are looking for price retention/appreciation, exclusivity or the fact that you like the way the watch looks and feels on your wrist. |

The luminescent hands are a nice touch, as they look fairly subtle. Although I love blue dial watches, legibility in dim lighting can be an issue. The lume hands will help legibility. The diamond hour markers are certainly different from the Breguet numbers and for a Platinum watch, I think they are fine and set the 5170P apart from the other metals. I have a couple of other watches that are on my radar ahead of this watch. However I do really like the 5170P. Now I need to find an AD that has one to see it in real life. |

This is HOT HOT HOT 5170P
I really like this watch and the Diamond markers. I remember everyone hating on the 40th anniversary Nautilus in Platinum for the same reason. I think most of us really like it now.
If I did not have my mind set on a 5650, it may be at the top of my list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looks nice and good to see Patek following Rolex's lead.

This seems like an appropriate “APPRECIATION” thread for the 5170p.
Bumping with some pics from today in the California sun... . .

In person the diamonds are very subtle. I hate diamonds but they work on this watch.

Congratulations! I believe you're one of a very few whose first patek is not a natilus, in this forum.
But I can guess why. This is a very beautiful watch and what with Stephen's enabling, one couldn't really resist. Enjoy your wearing. |

Thanks guys (especially Steve..he was instrumental in enabling and providing first hand experience with the watch before I saw it lol). Like Steve says..Insanely beautiful in all lighting..I couldn't stop staring at it at the supermarket tonight.
There's just no other sunburst that behaves this way..it fades from blue to black in multiple directions pending on angle and ever so subtly changes back and forth. Just wow. |
