RG for me as it's more subtle. YG screams something which I don't want.

Sorry to pick up an old thread but I have the same dilemma myself on the Oysterflex Ceramic Daytona. YG or RG?

If between YG and RG, I will choose RG. It looks more modern.

For me, a gold must be a yellow but rose is definitely more eye catching
Among these Daytona models, I would pick the white gold but this is just for these models

I'd be choosing between a Sunburst YG SUB or YG DD40. Champagne with bars ( diamonds and no) and Romans. Beautiful watches all of them

I have a RG watch on a strap and really like it. YG is okay w/ some dial combos, but I just can't shake the image of cheesy used car salesman types that wear YG. I know it's a total stereotype and have seen plenty of dudes wearing YG who seem the polar opposite of that stereotype. Btw, I have a Camaro Z/28 so I know all about stereotypes. LoL.
I also feel that RG (esp. on a strap) is a more versatile color. Jeans, suits, shorts, etc. YG... not so much. As far as it being a fad.....I'm not a fashionista so I couldn't care less. However, if that is a concern then YG is likely the better choice or bear in mind that everything is cyclical. Just my 2 cents. |

Thank you guys for your valuable inputs, much appreciated. I like the WG as well but it’s a bit too close to the SS version. Between YG and RG I’m really having a hard time to decide which one to go for. Em...I normally wear casual outfits like Tee and sweatpants, which one is more suitable for my style? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Considering Rolex has been cranking out RG of late in Daytona, DD, and DJ I’d say it must sell well or they would stop producing. They aren’t in the business of not selling watches.

I’m slightly leaning towards YG to be totally honest because the Rolex RG is bit too coppery and might looks dull without sunlight, and also because of my usual wearing style, YG looks a little more “street” and RG maybe looks better with formal outfits. That’s my own interpretation, could be wrong though lol.

I have a RG Daytona. It looks great in all lighting. I'm an engineer so not great at explaining it in artistic terms, but at night it has a warm, mellow glow. Go to the AD and try on a few of each. IMO, if going RG, it looks best w/ black ceramic bezel. The RG inlay contrasted against the black bezel looks amazing, especially in the right light where the contrast makes the gold inlay look as if it is lit up, but in a subtle, classy way. Some have said it looks too coppery or pink. I could see that, but the black bezel does a nice job of countering the effect. I do have mine on a black strap so that probably makes a difference as well (again, love the contrasting colors). As as attire goes.... set your own trend. It's 100% about what you like. Wear whatever you get w/ confidence and it won't matter. Lastly, of all the YG versions I've seen posted here, I think the GMT w/ black dial looks the best. I'd like to see that one in person. Best of luck with your decision! |

I just wanted to point out that in both ancient Greece and China, gold was described as red. Rose gold is found as a natural alloy (although, not "everose", obviously).
White gold, in terms of an alloy of silver and gold, was also known to the Greeks as "electrum". It's all 18k gold, so just go with the color you like and which matches your skin and bling comfort level. |

By the way does anybody know which one is heavier and which one is more prone to get scratches between YG and RG? Many thanks.

I'm torn between the two....I'm not a fan of the 40mm, but it the 36mm, I love them both with smooth bezels. When my wife wears her RG DD, I drool just like when I see YG DD with a diamond dial.
I say ignore those who say RG is a fad. I've always loved it's warm glow, especially with a rose/pink dial. The good looks that come with a DD are always stylish regardless of its color. |

The suggestion that white gold is 'a little too close to stainless steel' seems to gloriously miss the point. It's gold......not stainless steel.
I suppose the real issue is ''will people notice me''? White gold is for those who choose to fly under the radar. Not looking too obviously like gold is the whole idea. I do have a yellow gold watch, but feel more self-conscious wearing it. And more vulnerable to attracting unwanted attention . |

Interesting how each person sees the same watch so differently. I've never noticed an orange-ish color of any sort in the dial (I have chocolate colored sub dials) or bezel. Now I might, thanks to this! LoL. Also, I don't think pics do the watch any justice. In fact, based on pics alone, I'd have not even considered it. |
