I find them to be all very very nice. Although I’ve moved on from all my rolexes except the Daytona. This will be my only AP as I honestly don’t find them all that interesting and generally way too big for me.

PPs however, will keep coming in other forms.

I got my first Patek a few weeks ago (5711 blue, bought at msrp) and I’m finding it completely mesmerising. I thought the rotor noise would annoy me, but I love it. The idea of a non hacking movement makes no sense whatsoever....but I now find that it doesn’t bother me at all.

I still love my various Rolex watches, which are far more robust, but the Nautilus makes me feel like I’m wearing something really special. I’ll report back honestly how this pans out over time, but right now I can see myself selling 2 or 3 Rolex to buy a second PP, which I’m sure will be another Nautilus.

PP question aside, why did your interest in AP not last? Why did you go back to Rolex after having the ROO and 15400?

I really like my 15202, but I have to admit, side by side next to that 5711, the 5711 wins -- at least based on what I see in that pic

Just different watches I think. Both very very well made and finished. Wears totally different as well, so depends on what you like on the wrist.

I didn’t love the sharp angles of the 15400, and found the bracelet uncomfortable. I loved the Diver, but it really is the opposite of “under the radar” and I tired of it.

I don't think I'll move on from Rolex, but I'm a fan of both the Aquanaut and Nautilus and would love to have both. I already went for a VC Overseas (love the unique case and guilloche dial) and an APRO 15400 (love the case design and bracelet). I'd love to go after an Aquanaut next (as I can't being myself to pay market price for the Nautilus, and retail could be a long while), but not sure I want to sell any of my others yet.

You’re correct. I’m not sure why as a whole we don’t believe this. Rolex watches are not assembly line, machine built “mass” produced watches only. Rolex has a big factory with lots of employees and able to turn out a significant number of watches. But it’s not the movies with robots building perfect watches everywhere like we think.

that may be so. doesn't matter to me either way as the finishing is more basic to me. Long flat polished surfaces with some brushing. The angles in a Patek or AP case and the transitions between polished and brushed are more complex and more abundant.

Rolex is fit for purpose, nothing fancy

Rolex generally are excellently finished. But simply cant' be compared to PP or AP. Case, bracelet, dial finishing are all on another level and far more intricate. Let alone the lack of a display case back.

This is not a knock on Rolex, as it's robustness is unrivaled. I'm far more comfortable taking it out to actual sports/drinking/traveling. AP and PP aren't "real" sports watches like Rolex can be.

Room for both. Patek king of haute and Rolex best of mid tier on down. I love both. Patek
Feels WAY more special on the wrist. Rolex feels at HOME on the wrist

I really respect Rolex for the watches they make in terms of quality, price and style but the 6 digit super case references do not suit my wrist (Sub C or GMT C). Of the current collection i would love a Daytona C (white) but as we all know it is pretty much impossible to get.

Hence i have turned my attention away from Rolex (for now) and onto PP and am on the list for an Aquanaut (5167). The Aqua just has this je ne c'est quaoi about it and ever since i tried on the R i knew i wanted one.

Have not tried on a Nautilus but do really like the looks of the 11, 12 and 40.

Me too. Those are the ones all right, but I'm not about to pay Patek prices. So for now, I will admire them from afar. I also covet the basic stainless steel Aquanaut.

Have both, Pepsi and 5167. But they are very different. Other is a tool watch, and the other piece of art

At current prices the Aquanaut somewhat still accessible but the Nautilus isn't. Can you imagine that you will need at least 5 steel rolexes for a single entry level Nautilus?

As much as I enjoy the nautilus - paying mid 50s for the 5711 and more for others is such a big step. I think a Smurf or solid gold Rolex is probably the next evolution of the steel Rolex lover.

So have you or will you be buying one? And if you are buying one. Woll you be sizing down your rolex collection to get there? Which models would you trade to get to the next model?

Just a little fun... lets not make this a SAVGE thread. (Im at the gym so my TRF post surge lol)

just got my 5711 last week. It's great but... I only like it a little more than an AP.

It does not feel as solid as a ROLEX.

Now Im considering getting rid of it for a the PP 5070G

At least the 5070 isn’t pretending to be a sports watch.

I see way more people buying aquanauts and nautiluses just to show off. Just look at rappers and athletes, it’s the new look at me watch. Most of these people probably won’t know any other references outside these two lines, how unfortunate.

Most of the people I see wearing them are wearing fakes, I even got offered 1 myself the other day

To me I see wearing rolex and the odd ap, but they want to grab a patek as it seems the best thing, but rolex was always the watch we all inspired too many many years ago
