Haha that’s funny Ryan!

Question.

How can you be down to two watches when within a week you post about having a Rolex, a Patek Philippe and a Jaeger Le Coultre?

Don't limit yourself to Rolex bundling folks. It's a great time to love the other brands. The Rolex doors will open up if you bundle with Panerai, JLC, Vacheron, IWC, etc etc etc.

I do have one question...

Did you tell your AD up front that you planned on flipping the GMT immediately?

If so and they didn’t care, more power to you.

If you didn’t then I start to lose respect as I can not buy into lying and pretending to be someone you are not.

I’d rather pay full price and not lie to my AD than save a few grand by misleading them into selling me a watch I don’t actually want.

That being said I’m curious to know what conversations transpired.
I passed on a Hulk last year because I do not like the new supermaxi-cases. If my dealer thought I was into flipping he would not keep me in mind for my grail watch.

Question for all those upset about this....

Does it not matter that had I not proposed this bundle deal that there was not a chance in hell for me to get opportunity to buy a GMT from this AD?

Does it not matter that there were surely people on the “imaginary” waiting list for this watch and that the AD disregarded all those people just to make this deal?

But I’m the bad guy?

I have been a member here since 2016 and I am surprised by the number of “pro-AD” people on this thread. The years on this forum I would have thought otherwise. Most people post about bad AD experiences. I’d be curious to know if there is a correlation between people upset at me by this thread and them also being on an “imaginary“ waiting list for a Daytona or a GMT. If there is a correlation between those people and so called waiting lists then I’m sorry but I’m not the one you guys should be mad at.

And in all honesty I dont think they care. One of those “see no evil hear no evil” kind of things. So I have been on the other end of the game waiting for my Daytona. There was even a point where I just stopped going on TRF because I was pissed I couldn’t get my Daytona. I was over watches. And there was a time whenever I was in a new place I used to love to go into AD’s. No more. It’s like whats the point? There is going to be nothing in there. Bottom line this AD was happy to sell me this bundle blindfolded in my opinion. My take on the comment of “you’re a smart man......” was basically them saying you understand how the game is played now and we will work with you.

Not all AD’s operate on the “sell to the biggest fish possible in the sea theory.” Some actually do believe in a waitlist. I have a genuine relationship with the AD that sold me the Daytona. We have talked watches on many occasions. And he kept his word to me when others didn’t. He even offered me a black dial Daytona in Jan 2017. I passed because my heart was truly set on a white dial. Did you hear that? I passed on a black dial Daytona because I truly liked this guy! And he told me when a white dial came in it was mine. And true to his word in August 2017 I got my white dial Daytona. I even got the guy a bottle of Macallan 18 for him and myself. Myself to celebrate. And one for him as a sincere thank you! So all the people here calling me a terrible person and classless. I’m really not. I will post that thread I started on that topic when I got the Daytona in August 2017. And even in the intro paragraph to that thread I make mention of the emotional roller coaster I went through to get that watch. And yes I still have that watch. And no I will NEVER sell that watch! It is a permanent part of my collection. The only thing I ask is please guys dont give me a hard time about the ice cubes in the Macallan. I know I know. Lol

Everyone is playing the game. People say "I would never flip it..." and maybe that's the case and maybe that's what they truly feel at this moment. But even if that's how they truly feel many of us purchase a Rolex with peace of mind knowing that if push came to shove then you can sell your watch with minimal loss and potential for a profit.

And some people get upset about others who flip watches or take advantage of the situation. But it's the buyers that are creating the market. The flippers are merely opportunists. But at the end of the day, it's a free market. It's capitalism.

It's exactly the kind of environment Rolex want's to create. Look at what this OP is doing... and some readers think he's a genius. I say the brilliant marketing by Rolex is paying off. And it is reinforced by the fact that you can buy precious metal models much easier, which is where I think Rolex really want's to gravitate to. A stainless steel Rolex is cheap relatively speaking.

I agree, to me it all seemed petty and yet the OP was so proud of this accomplishment. He even got Amex points, oh boy!

I still would have kept the GMT. Why give up that piece for a 37YM which can be had just about anywhere for a discount. Buy the YM and keep them both.

I think I’ll try your bundle approach with the Daytona on an AD that I have purchased my bluesy and dj41. I might bundle a lady dj for my wife and a perhaps an explorer. All watches that I want. If i go grey for Daytona i’d lose $12k, that’s enough to cover for a lady datejust. Does not hurt to make the offer.

The way I see it OP, you did it to help yourself out.

The AD agreed to help himself/herself out.

Just facts.

And cant get one. And even getting fed BS these days trying to get a simple black Sub. Its ridiculous out here. In post #23 of this thread I explain how I have been on the other side of the fence. How I have been frustrated by not being able to get a Daytona at one time. I have been that pissed off TRF member. In my intro paragraph to this thread I acknowledged the fact about seeing so many threads about members being frustrated because they cant get this Rolex or that Rolex from an AD. And I intro’d by saying that this thread was different. This was simply a thread about a forum member who won for once. A forum member who has been burned before by an AD but decided to use the system to his advantage and come out victorious. So many people come on here and share their AD experiences. Mostly bad. So why cant I come on here and share a good experience? I do not have any watch friends in the “real world”. None of my friends get it. And none of my friends are dentists. I don’t necessarily feel comfortable about telling some of my friends about how I floated 31k on my CC to ultimately buy a 22k watch so that me and my wife can have matching watches that total 47k at MSRP. That to me would be rubbing things in. I do not know any of you personally. And none of you know me. But we all come here for the same reason. Watches. And to talk watches. I was simply “talking watches”. For me TRF is informative. I have learned so many things here. I was simply passing along information.

I think you did good posting this OP. People can call this thread a “rubbing in thread” just like people can call an incoming thread a “show off thread” or “flex thread” or whatever

At the end of the day, we (I speak for myself and I’m sure some members) come here to talk about watches, learn about watches, see pictures of watches, and share experiences with watches, whether good or bad.

Like you mentioned, a lot of stories are posted where a member takes the loss.

You played the same game, with the same rules and won.

Something different to read about.

I guess one could argue that guys like you are perpetuating the problem, but hey, even the AD said that the higher ups would like the plan.

For all we know, you kept another AD from closing for not being able to sell the watches that Rolex demands that they sell.

Come on... I think OP is just sharing a story.

When someone posts that they bought a Daytona in the grey market and paid nearly double retail, nobody comments “bragging about being a victim of Rolex!”

It’s just a story. I don’t think the OP is flexing either. If this is a flex, then every incoming thread and every post in the “show your steering wheels” thread is a flex.

You should be able to get 16.5K for a Pepsi if it has all the stickers on. That is from a gray. He will sell it in 19.5K

Actually this thread has turned out to be very good with a lot of what I think is truthful content from the OP. Congratulations, confronted with the same set of circumstances I would have done the same thing.
