No even at the age of 93 I still have enough brain cells left to remember the current date. Some days I even remember what month and year it is.

By the way Panerai do make watches with a date function.

I think the date is about the design of the watch and how it is incorporated into the overall function. On some watches the date function looks great and adds to the dial. On other watches, not so much. I do not need to know the date from my watch, as I know it in my head and I do not need to refer to it on my watch, phone or calendar. It is simple, if you know what day it is today, then you know the date tomorrow. If you learn the months you will know which ones have 30 or 31 days and you can even know leap year. I see a preference, not a character flaw for those that choose on way or another.

For me....I am retired and CAN function without the date on my watch. As others have said, there’s numerous other resources to go look at, glance at, pull out of my pocket, etc ....which is what I would need to do, since I’m no longer in front of a computer, phone, etc....as part of a work day.
I actually look at my phone every morning when the alarm goes off and I know the date at that point.
However....my watch is on my wrist, that’s what I glance/look at several times a day, and I’ve used it for the date for years. So call me “old school” or just old :) or just habitual....I don’t necessarily want to “go look” somewhere else.
I just simply prefer the date on my watch!
I’ve had several without, and it’s not a dealbreaker, but there’s no watch out there currently, that I simply “must have” that doesn’t have the date complication.
In REALLY cutting back my collection recently, I have only pieces with the date.

No right or wrong thinking here, everyone’s reasons are good by me

I rarely need to know the date.

When I do I am usually sitting in front of three monitors

A window date function really breaks up the symmetry of a watch dial. It is really sad to see really finely finished dials with rare arts cut into and broken up by a date window. If I want a date I would opt for an AC or PC designed for calendar displays.

OMG. There must be a lot of old people on this site.

C'mon people think back....

A date function is to get laid. Why else would you go to all the trouble to buy dinner or a movie. Even when you get married what is date night for......c'mon try and remember.....

Just WOW.

I can’t. Dateless watches are for play only. My daily’s and travel watches need a date.

I rarely look at the date on my watch.... actually the only time I look at it is to see the open 6, 9, etc. on my 1675. More for seeing the aesthetics of it during the 3 or 4 times a month.
Pretty simple isn't it.

I have watches with dates and no dates. Love them both. Having a general sense of the world around me allows me to know what the date is 99% of the time year round without ever having to consult my watch. YMMV.

Sounds like you need a watch with a date on it.

The date function is nice but I love the classic styling and symmetry of the no date sub. Also, the Daytona is amazing and not having a date doesn’t bother me in the least.

Setting the time is also way easier if you don’t have the date and thus AM/PM to worry about.

Well for $5 a year you could’ve kept all those great watches you dumped...

And I am kidding of course.

As to your mindset, I’d say it’s more of a condition called short term selective amnesia. You can self correct this by choosing to add a step to your morning routine. Each morning whilst brushing your teeth, review your weekly calendar on the smartphone - focus on today’s date and your appointments/tasks to do.

Presto! You can now pay 2x for a Daytona 500 and never worry about the date.

I am not sure how this is an issue. Do people need a perpetual calendar to keep track of time, days, months, years?
Then the same logic would apply to the time. Why have a watch even?

I prefer watches without a date, but if a watch has a date, that’s fine too; it’s not a deal breaker for me.

Submariner, Speedmaster, Daytona are among my favorite watches...
