There’ll be a vaccine since this is costing governments too much in taxes and the health care industry only make money with slow protracted deaths. There’s therefore a need to quell this virus for economic reasons so it’ll be solved quicker than any other human illnesses. As for watches, nothing will change and, if it did, the luxury brands would simply reduce production to maintain the status quo.

Here's another fact: There are now (already) 2 ER physicians in the US who are in critical condition after being diagnosed with COVID-19. I'm not sure if they directly treated patients with the virus, though they are located in cluster areas. What, if anything, does that fact do to influence your opinion that the reaction is overblown? I hope it moves the needle just a little bit!

The situation is deteriorating badly across the globe except for China which has stabilized and the numbers are coming down.

I work in epidemiology, some of the reactions around America (even this forum) are exactly why other countries are frowning upon us. You know why China is already on the up and up? Because of the strict quarantines and precautions taken. Now compare to Italy (and the EU, where they also took it as a bit of a joke), when the virus didn’t even originate there.

Americans are going to keep laughing about this until somebody they know of elderly age contracts the virus and it will no longer be a laughing matter. I don’t get some people, it’s like they truly believe this is a conspiracy or something. Fact is, America’s healthcare system is GROSSLY underprepared to handle this breaking out at a high level. Do I agree this hysteria is a bit dramatic? 100%...but acting like this is a laughing matter and social distancing shouldn’t be implemented quite honestly makes me question one’s intelligence.

I agree with your post.
But there's also a cultural/social aspect... America is the land of freedom (I'm Australian), the world knows this because we hear it often enough. To adequately control the outbreak means the government would need to severely restrict your freedom. Give me liberty, or give me death... Getting people to rethink these words seems ever so timely!

I agree 100% being American myself and knowing the mentality of some of my peers. They just don’t comprehend that yes, you may contract the disease and be completely fine/asymptomatic but the grandmother you come in contact with may not be so lucky.......

Rolex doesn’t care about flippers or grey market dealers. They will just do normal productions and see flippers and grey dealers go bust. Many young collectors over spend when buying a luxury watch. And when push comes to shove they have to get out of it in a bad market. Multiply that with few thousands and you see the prices come down. I buy watches to keep and never as investments. I don’t care if my watch collection values goes up or down.

Agree with you 100%.

I simply do not understand some of the folks who doesn't take this seriously. It's better to stay healthy for themselves as well as for the peer.

I can't believe still bunch of people are drinking and having a lot of "fun" at bar. They would realize that "fun" was just a beginning of their nightmare.

I see that my response was quoted twice and appear to have missed the mark. For the record, i was being sarcastic to the other poster who equated this Covid-19 to SARS, Swine Flu and other previous strains, and thinking this isn’t as serious as it is.

I have family in HK who have been dealing with this for months, so I definitely get it.

Rolex has been in the process of withdrawing AD licences for a while now.

If you don't see that as a downscale of supply then you need to relook at it.

They are and will protect the brand. If anything, this virus will throttle supply further.

I must admit as the situation is getting closer and we are basically under lockdown and border closures, luxury watches seem totally unimportant. Like really not important at all. The situation has just started and I can't imagine how it will be in a few weeks time. After this is over I'm sure spirits will come back.

Have ordered a few cool G-Shocks as there is not much else to do than online shopping now.

I really don't understand the comments that say "oh the flu kills 500,000 people a year".

Dude, the death rate of the common flu is around 0.2%, the coronavirus is around 3.8% right now.

Do you know what that means?

Let's say Covid-19 infects the 250 million people (the same number infected by the common cold) that mean the virus will kill more than 9 MILLION people.

So please, for the love of GOD, the coronavirus is NOT another common cold.

Be smart, wash your hands and be safe everyone.

Just clean your ass with soap and water (Muslims, Italians , and a lot of countries do that), or bathe your lower part.

The UK and Boris have been the most anti-lockdown and just carry on country so far but today they too seem to be signalling a lockdown or extreme measures are coming, so if this happens in Switzerland as seems likely then Rolex production and distribution will slow significantly and that may counteract the fall in demand.

I treat my ass just like I treat my Explorer: it gets 10 minutes in a sonic cleaner, then I gently wash it with liquid soap, and dry it with a microfibre cloth.

Then, I photograph it and upload it to various forums, for others to comment on how good it looks for an old model.

The people who started the BS about comparing it to the Flu saying 60,000 people a year die from the flu so this is much less of a threat. They should all loose whatever titles or credibility they have. This was a huge diservice to the public. It validated this nonchalant attitude so many people have.

A friend of mine was in Vegas at a trade show and was staying at the Cosmopolitan and he said the Champagne Bar was packed to the max with people waiting to get in! He said he couldn't wait to leave Vegas and people were partying like there is no virus.

As far as China is concerned they are about to be hit with a Boomerang! First off I don't believe anything coming out of China as far as infection numbers but lets say they're true and factories are ramping back up. Who are they selling too! Just as production comes back online companies will be cancelling orders as Apple, Nike and other major retailers are shutting down all their stores!

So far I've read that a wife walked into an AD and bought her husband a Sub and that another member was at an AD to pick up a watch and the SA also offered him a BLNR without even asking for it.

To me it signals the tide is turning, we are at slack tide right now, but the high tide has stop coming in and will soon start to go out and we will hit low tide sooner or later.

I'm wondering if Rolex is pumping out everything they can before they are forced to shut down. All it takes is one or two employees to get infected. Switzerland's numbers are starting to rise pretty fast.

If threads like this get one member to start taking this seriously then its worth posting and reading. Be safe and don't risk your health for a watch! I think if I get a call I will have the watch shipped to me rather than going into the store to pick up. Maybe an over reaction? But can you really be too safe?

Good , then you don't need toilet paper. Good to keep that part and around clean and fresh for your wife or girlfriend.
