Neither did the 5 digit Sub. Bond has not worn Rolex in decades.

As far as I know Timothy Dalton wore a 16610 in License To Kill. A 5 digit Sub Date.

Once the new ref is out there more, I suspect the previous ref to trade for a little less than the new ref, not by much though. Rolexes very incremental changes hold up the value of the previous gens. Nobody can see these variances from a social distance.

It is possible that the Super Case will be a collectors item, but that won’t happen for a long long time.

This is the way Rolex works. Keep those 116610LN and Super Case Maxi Dial Variants. Enjoy!
I just saw a new in box 116610 listed for $14,750. Holy Cow!

Yes, although fat lugs are not for me there clearly was a market for them and I'm sure they'll become sought after in time.

Congrats on buying your place. But what if there was a way to buy the house AND keep the watch?

I doubt after 10 years production they will ever be rare : )

I don't think they are unloved either, I think if you were used to wearing Rolex before getting one then they tend to feel very uncomfortable. The wider, very sharp lugs tend to rub against your skin. I have had one, when it came out and loved the design (maxi case) but found it too uncomfortable and ended up selling it and ended up buying the SD4K to replace it.

I have the 114060. It wears different on everyone. I find it very comfortable, BUT for me the crown digs into my wrist sometimes, not so much the lugs. I can’t wait to get the new version to compare. I think the crown guard is also smaller on the new version.

I never had the crown dig into my wrist, only by my Tudor Ranger. The new Sub 41 crown guard is smaller due to its larger diameter case i suppose. An Expll at 42mm has a very small twinlock crown guard and slender curved lugs to work with it's even larger dial. Im curious to see the overall lug to lug span across the wrist on the new one compared to the 114060 which is 47.8mm by my measurements. No real matter though, I bought mine three years ago, love it and a keeper for sure as is my 14060M. However I do hope to see the new version soon.

Under recognized, I'd hardly say!!! The Sub and the DJ are the two most copied watch formats in the world. Every newbie Rolex enthusiast/owners needs to own one. It may well appreciate but it will always take a keen eye to choose it from the myriad of other watches that emulate it. There's very little to make it looks special.

My BLNR crown dug into my wrist pretty badly. You right, every watch wears differently.

Idky everyone is saying it was hated. By and large the super case was a massive success. Not kinda, but overwhelmingly so. The new Sub is still more in line with that than any previous iteration. It's influence is here to stay!

Does it matter who else loves it besides the owner? Rolex sold all their millions of units so are now on their next model. Which is fine. The watch wasn't underloved valued or whatever strange forum term for a watch which isn't the most popular today. It was the epitome of Rolex for many users. But now the new updated model with the improved movement has arrived
Sure the fictitious super agent didn't wear it, but only those heading to retirement age would know or care.

Didn’t people say the same thing when the aluminum sub bezels got replaced by ceramic? A few of those models have gone up but wouldn’t say they are highly desired.

I see it as a good thing having a maxi case. Think of all the watch services it can handle, then eventually it’ll have slim lugs and look normal.

And for the 114060 I think it's only a 8 years run, right? And according to my AD their far more rare - maybe 1 no date every 5 date....

I'm fortunate enough to have picked up one among the very latest, the last week of August 2020 with the new warranty card. I'm sure this will become a coveted piece!

Yeah, 8 years is a relatively short period. Super/Maxi case definitely has the potential to be sought after many years from now as a collectible, assuming that those fat lugs are preserved. Just my two cents.

Got my 116610 back in Jan. It was the piece I had wanted since they changed to the maxi case. I’ve got nothing against the new release, I just happen to like mine more. That, and I don’t have to wait a decade in line to get the new one.

Agreed, and the Sub/C is the heavy duty Submariner. In 10 years the merits of the 3135 movement will still be legendary. No doubt Rolex will sort out and fix 3235 issues, but it will take at least that long before the new/upgraded movement proves itself a worthy bulletproof workhorse.

On another thread, the new sub is 46.5mm lug to lug

The lug size never moved me one way or the other, but what I did much prefer was the beefier crown guards vs pointy ones. And the Cerachrom bezel was very important for me.

I do like the look of the transition to the band more on the 126, but I only notice that in photos and not on my wrist. I'm not sure I could go even the littlest bit bigger on my bony watchmount... as some early reports have the 126 wearing bigger. We'll see.

I'm very happy with my Submariner, wear it every single day.

I did note when downsizing the image I have some goo around the cyclops I need to clean off... the hazards of wristwatch photography.
