I thought that too. But, the fact that it was only in white gold at first meant it was out of most people’s price range, so when it got released in steel the demand was naturally higher.

The BLRO, Pepsi, PanAm or whatever shares the bezel with the white gold models. Rolex makes so many and they are split three ways essentially. That is one reason why ADs receive more BLNRs that stainless BLROs IMO.

It's a high demand watch vs a ludicrous demand watch.

Lately I've been appreciating simpler, more muted watches, so I think the BLNR might be more to my taste. I'd be happy to have either.

The red pigment is more expensive to produce, people know that so the Pepsi is priced accordingly. Duh.

Is Batman blue? Why root beer when it’s clearly named chocolate? Why Hulk and not Groot or Yoda or Grogu.

Not a fan of the names either, but I don’t really care what people call watches. More important things to life, chose your battles.

Do you not think that the long-standing Rolex customers in the 1950’s may have considered the Pepsi nickname rather silly? I cannot understand why people get so worked up about it? The nicknames are convenient, it’s really that simple.

The hype is a double edged sword - without it we enthusiasts could buy whatever model we wanted at any AD, but then would we? Many owners buy more Rolex watches than they might otherwise do because the value retention makes it easier to justify.

Although I love the jubilee bracelet, I agree with this statement. I also feel that the BLNR looks better on the oyster bracelet. Although many may not like the PCLs, I think the Batman is perfect.

The nicknames are are a stupid blend of cartoon characters, superheroes and baby talk. I understood when the Pepsi and Coke became popular, they were original and made sense. The names now are forced and childish.

+1. There’s another thread where the OP declared his blue dialed YM the “Captain America” or something equally dumb.

I saw that. It is the one thing I hate about the brand but I don't hold Rolex accountable for it. The green nicknames are the worst.

The Pepsi combination has been the predominate color combo historically, thus it is the most popular GMT module.

Ahh bless.

Hardcore decades long keepers of the crown, they name their watch after a childrens sugary drink, but rear up if someone else names one after a cartoon character.

Some of you are so funny.

Yes the jubilee is perfect on the Pepsi, BLNR looks better on oyster 100%. If both Pepsi and Batman came on oyster the BLNR would have had a better chance competing against the Pepsi. As it is right now the Pepsi has the best bracelet for it and the BLNR not so much.

I just think the owners of Pepsi and Coke are jealous and envious (I hope nobody takes this literally, it's meant as humor) . Nicknames increase the popularity, and demand and they don't want other references like the Hulk, and Batman, etc competing with their beloved Pepsi and Coke. You know when any Rolex is popular is when it gets a Nickname. All nicknames are childish, and every man is still a child in some way. Rolex nicknames no matter how silly they are don't harm the prestige of Rolex like some may think, or the enjoyment of owning them in any way. Rolex is a watch for the masses, and most people can afford one Rolex at least, there is no prestige to protect. It's a brand people aspire to own of course, but it's not Patek or Vacheron. Rolex is special in it's own way, and this practice of people giving popular models nicknames and rushing to post new nicknames for new models is one more special thing to add. Rolex even started to acknowledge the nicknames on it's official site, and you can be sure whatever nickname Rolex doesn't like won't work on their official site.

Captain America is very fitting for my blue dial YM40. I am not the only one who agrees. I can assure you.

Its not the nicknames I hate so much as the consistency of the community naming it. The Batman changes its bracelet & suddenly its "Batgirl" while Pepsi is the same name across bracelets & precious metals. A perfectly good Kermit nickname is thrown away when the exact color scheme returns in the newest Submariner. Suddenly the Starbucks or Cermit show up out of nowhere. That makes no sense to me. The nicknames should be the same to everyone or its not a nickname. Then its just your own pet name for your watch. If that's the case, keep it to yourself.

It's an easy and fun way to differentiate the models without using numbers. Most people can't remember or don't want to remember reference numbers. Nicknames are easier. I still have to google reference numbers when a poster doesn't mention the Nickname in his post, very annoying and time consuming for me, but still I don't let it bother me. I'm into this hobby to have fun, not memorise a bunch of numbers.

As Narin said ignore it, and enjoy your watches, and call them whatever you want or not call them anything. You can't control the world.

Just for clarification, there are certain nicknames that are so entrenched into the rolex psyche that the company now recognises them when entering the word in their search box. I think if it's good enough for rolex, it should be good enough for us mere mortals.

Exactly . The most popular nickname for each reference that Rolex approved of was adopted and is searchable in their website. Even the Hulk was searchable before discontinuation. Apparently they don't like Batgirl so it's not searchable.

I've not heard of that nickname before and to be perfectly honest, I think that is a "bridge too far" lol. Anyway, I thought that nicknames were supposed to be shorter than the original? Sorry but that name is just wrong on so many levels haha
