But that is not what Rolex is doing. They didn’t put a special dial reserved for PM on a SS watch. They simply released a common bracelet to an existing SS watch. The whole idea of “I wear a WG / PT Rolex and want other people to know it’s PM” is a joke. Either don’t care what others see or buy RG / YG. Personally, I’d prefer if other people didn’t even recognize my watch was a Rolex. I wear them for me not others. This world takes all kinds I suppose Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Seriously
If you own a WG Pepsi and you are upset because Rolex just released a SS version on oyster and think all of a sudden people may confuse your exclusive $40k watch for a $10k watch then you are buying a PM Rolex for all the wrong reasons

WG is so much less gaudy than YG...making generalizations here but I imagine most WG owners are trying to fly under the radar with their watches.
YG watches immediately trigger Glengarry Glen Ross quotes in my mind. |

Why on earth would I care????? Doesn’t matter a lick to me. Like my blue dial. I’m sure the meteorite guys feel the same. Like that it’s special. Don’t care one bit. Only people that would care are in this hobby for the wrong reasons.

When you see my Sky Dweller WG on strap 326139 you know it is white gold. No doubt.

I think it's not correct to assume why someone bought a WG Pepsi
But looking in here and crono24 it looks like it sells for more than retail So if someone is not happy, they do have an out that won't cost them |

For me a blro is a blro, for my own self satisfaction to have one that is slightly different and only for people “in the know” is the appeal to me. Honestly if someone asked me who isnt clued up about watches I’d just say it was steel anyway.

If anyone is really THAT worried - simple solution - go for the blue dial - looks absolutely awesome - see my avatar!! I'd imagine most WG owners wouldn't give one hoot.......

You do all realize that 99.99% of general public only sees its a Rolex right? Other than the tiny fragment of Rolex enthusiasts know that OF on a Daytona is WG, or that the GMT Oyster was only white gold but the blue dial certifies that fact. If your just buying the watch for what others perceive you may be disappointed in reality. Again its like a Huracan and Aventador.. general public sees its a Lamborghini, small percentage think its a Ferrari, small group knows the actual difference (mostly teenage boys)

Even a little change is good, like the blue dial, and obviously the meteorite is a much more noticeable difference. But, first world problem I know |

Has Rolex ever offered an exact duplicate models of a watch, save for the case/bracelet material? Particularly SS/WG, before now?

I’d be more than happy if somebody thought my white gold watch was steel. Although I know a lot of Rolex wearers like the world to know the value of what they are wearing on their wrist...

Almost every Two Tone vs gold model is exactly same dial, bezel but different case/bracelet metals 116613 116618 As an example.

Exact looking except bracelet material was the criteria.

Came out first in stainless steel. Ok so not exact the same - the S/S has a 22mm bracelet versus 21mm for the WG, but without the callipers who would know.

I can't wait to get an SS GMT pepsi on Oyster and "front" like it's White Gold.
No one will know!

The point is that the WG and SS Pepsis are visually indistinguishable. Two-tone is clearly distinguishable from SS or any gold.
That's a good one, but if I remember they were very limited, and were still slow movers. That should tell you everything about which direction people go when you have the choice of two identical looking watches that are priced significantly differently. |
