I went through the same dilemma a few months back. I've wanted one since 2015 and back in the days you can get one anywhere brand new for around $9000. Fast forward to recently where I was all ready to get one and to find out that not only is it discontinued, but we're in a shortage of supply. I told myself that the prices will never go lower, it's only going up. The longer I wait, the more expensive it will be. I paid $21k for mine and I have no regrets. As others said, with inflation, and I personally prefer the older/smaller size the demand for it will be there. If you want one I'd say just bite the bullet and get it.

Not me, I will never pay over retail for a watch. I am not a rich man and i can use that money it is commanding elsewhere

Prices are eventually going to flatline IMO so I would only personally buy it at today's price if I was okay viewing that premium as the money you lose when you drive the new car off the lot. And FWIW, I paid a premium on my Sub (although not nearly as much given it was just a Sub-Sub).

Sorry your right I just check my notes, purchased in 6/22/2017.

That’s pretty good for that time, right before it started going up I believe.

If you like it you buy now. Do not expect prices will flatten anytime soon or for an extended period. I had same considerations when 16610LV was EUR 7k, and since 5 years I am expecting prices to flatten and it keeps on growing, now it is over 20k.

Right now is the right time to buy any Rolex. They're all hard to get or hard to find. Discontinued models are worst. If you like a watch just take the plunge. If you're buying it for speculation and investment, I can't help you but if it's a watch you like to enjoy, then go for it and enjoy.

I got mine back in 2018 seems like I think about selling it every winter but haven't. When spring and summer come that green sunburst dial just dances probably the best dial I have ever seen it is a special piece IMHO

I hesitated for a while to buy it over MSRP then COVID hit. There was like a 1-2 week window in March or April of 2020 that prices started to go down a bit, that’s when I jumped on it. I think I paid 13k for it which sounded like way to much at the time.

To the OP...All things being equal, The best time to buy anything (especially luxury goods) is when you can afford it without making any sacrifices to your life and principles.

Buy the watch if you can afford it now and don't worry about whether or not it will go up or down. Life is short. Waiting on the sideline can be indefinite.

If you are ok going Grey for a watch, then do it and be happy. If not, wait for any AD that can get you want you want. Again, Life is short.

Now, in terms of the so-called "correction" some people keep expecting, am sorry to say I don't see that happening soon. I don't even see it happening in the next 10yrs.

Trend has changed in the last 2 decades. The demand is outrageous, social media has shone light on these goods unlike before. New money is coming in in FULL BLAST and younger generations can now afford it. What was once an older man's passion is now everyone's passion. And Rolex is a luxury brand that watches supply and will NEVER flood the market.
So supply will always be strategically limited.

So am sorry for those waiting on the sideline. Unless there is a catastrophic world calamity (and even that is subjective since we saw demand rise even during covid), no correction is in sight.

Life is short...Make yourself Happy.

Just like the stock market, this is the time to sell when people think it's time to buy, hehe.

With the Fed kicking the can down the road indefinitely just now I don’t see any change in the trend which is up. I’ve been waiting for a correction myself but doesn’t look like I’m gonna get one anytime soon. So when a fair deal comes along for something you really want and not just to make a few quick bucks then jump on it.

Getting it now is paying Daytona ceramic prices 2 years ago. Just a perspective of the current situation and not saying prices of the hulk will get to the current Daytona level 2 years from now. It has however shown no sign of the price flattening.
