Its a great looking watch, it's great value, and its has racing history origins. Cars and Chronos go together.

Great watch and better looking bracelet than the original Speedmaster professional. I like the display back and smaller 39mm size. This is a winner.

I bet there’s a few salty people here who are on long wait lists. If you’ve handled a daytona then you know. It’s one of the best watches Rolex makes, bar none. The size is perfect, the finish and feel is great and sporty, and it’s versatile in that you can just about take it anywhere without worry. Heck I timed my time in the sauna last week with it. Just keeps on ticking.

I don't have any objection to it being an amazing chronograph. I object that it is the best chronograph of all brands.

Would truly be interested to know how many acquired and sold a Daytona
With and without the intent to do so.

I have had and sold four and while I like them conceptually, I find them near illegible in most circumstances. They are always sold in frustration.

I had a white gold silver dial Daytona. Was all excited when I got it as it was a Daytona. But after wearing it a few months, I just fell out of love with it…..or maybe fell out of lust. It’s a nice watch but to me, never was big on chronos and all the dials were “busy” to me. Ended up selling it and found out I prefer a more simple dial. Just picked up my first sub and I see why people love the no date. Simplicity at its finest.

Around these parts I primarily see women wearing the Daytona. Virtually none of the people I know who wear a Daytona even know what a “chronograph” is and are just wearing it because it’s expensive, name brand and exclusive. Not to take away from the Daytona, as it’s a fine watch, but most Daytona wearers are not enthusiasts who post on TRF. In 2022 the Daytona is primarily a status symbol. We could also go to Asia and ask all the cashed up Daytona lovers to point out Daytona on a map, and we’d likely see less than a 1% success rate…

It would be tough to discount the speedmaster from best chronograph made. If NASA is still pushing them through as flight ready, and they have been for almost 40 years, that’s tough to beat.

Own the white and Black 116500LN .
116520 K-serial thin hands white ,white dial uncoloured(fully stickered, unworn). Bought this above retail.

Have seen the Platinum ice blue diamond,YG Green dial,WG black diamond dial on Oysterflex.WG Blue dial .

The most impressive is Platona ,no question.
YG Green dial a close second.
WG blue also a beauty.

SS is an " incompleteness slow race " in which you (may) find the one and then look for the other .A collection needs both .Just the way it is .

Was offered a Platona in 2019 at retail ."Didn't have the money".It was a bad decision .
The ice blue baqette dial is

Best single ss ,IMO is the 116520 ,white dial, thin hands,4130 movement.

I like chronographs and have had one or more of some sort for almost 30 years. I like the “busy look” of the dial and prefer the classic tri-compax style. I occasionally use the complication but will admit the aesthetics are more important to me. I am on my 4th SS Daytona. I had a white 16520, both colors of the 116520, and now a black 116500. It’s incredibly accurate, can look both sporty or elegantly dressy, and is uber comfortable.
It currently gets regular rotation as does my Speedmaster 1861, don’t really care how other people view them.

Absolutely

Most precise and accurate watch I owned was a ss white 116520.
Then stupid sold it .

Currently ,the most accurate is a 126610LN (with 3235 movement
Not the most precise ,but using dial down or crown up overnight ,I can keep it at zero .Spot on.

At retail, or somewhat close, I like the Daytona. I’d never pay today’s secondary prices for one..even after the recent drop. There are just way too many watches that blow it away at those prices. Then again, I feel that the chrono complication in general is not really all that useful.

Vintage 4 digit Daytona’s are probably the most beautiful designs in consumer products

This is a very interesting opinion as compared to me your situation is the opposite: my wrist is much smaller, still, the 1957 Broad Arrow looks perfect on it!

I was really surprised at this first time, but then I realized that the design of this watch is much better than the new Rolexes with pumped up dials mostly because the design of the lugs. Of course, the Daytona with the white dial also looked perfect on my wrist, but that wasn't surprising because of the smaller casing. However, neither then, nor now I don't feel at all that that was so special as the buzz surrounding it. Now, for example, I feel that in this price category - SS/simple chronograph - the Speedmaster Alaska was perhaps the most special timepiece. Of course, this doesn't mean at all, that if I would ever get my call from the AD to pick up my Daytona, then I would refuse the MSPR offer

I'm sorry, but I have to say this now: You're absolutely right about that, but the reason these watches look perfect is because they're almost exactly the same as the Speedmasters that were sold then and have been since

I love the Daytona for lots of reasons, but tops among them are wearability and looks.

I can understand why there is a big demand for a Daytona.

The Daytona has a smaller more elegant case size, than many other sports watches, and has a recognisable design without being too flashy (SS/WG)

This will attract both anthusiast and people with class. Other will follow..

I bought the SS panda early 2019, loved it and wore the hell out of it for three years, but when it reached 45.000 i sold it. Now i will be buing a WG silver dial for the same money.

Apart from the Snoopy there is nothing Omega that appeals. Given it's mental aftermarket price I won't be getting one.

The SS Panda Daytona is a great looking watch but for the same reasons above I shall not be buying

Whilst sitting in a cafe friday morning the table next had 2 retired couples. The men had SS Daytona's(one black one white) one lady had the OP Tiffiany probably the 36mm and all looked brand spanking new tbf and the other just a plain old TT lady datejust (the runt of the family no doubt ;-)

Quite a haul between the 4 of them tbf..

*of course they could be clones as I could not tell from 3m tbh*

I like Rolex for the feats achieved in exploration and resistance to pressure. My collection go in this direction. I must be an exception who never approached my AD for a Daytona.
Not that I don't like it, but that it doesn't interest me. The function is useless, I see it with my Chronomaster Original rose gold.
You will tell me that I still have a stopwatch and that therefore I am illogical. Not at all, I spin for fun and for the oil once in a while, but I don't need it.
I simply fell in love with the pattern and the color combo with the gold. A part that I find much more beautiful than a Daytona.
For the record, Rolex and the Daytona would not exist today without Zenith at the time. The El Primero is thus mythical and beautiful to observe as a bonus.

Everything is personal in the end. But I still think that the vast majority are attracted by status (like THE grail of obtaining, and to shout to others and to their ego "I got it, me") and of course the lasting value (x2 catalog minimum), there are so many other beautiful chronos on the market...

What’s not to like? It is not my most desired Rolex, but it is a chronograph with beautiful dimensions and robust water resistance. It also has a great history and a resale value way above MSRP. Nothing to dislike here!

Agree with what most are saying here. Daytona is not my style but I’m glad some like it and are chasing after those instead of what I like. That said, the white one with black dials shown above is pretty sweet.
