I find that AP strategy is kind of controversial recently...
/rant: never had a good service at the AP boutique in Ginza for the past 10years. Most of the time, they didn't ever bother to say hello, except for the doorman. Such a contrast with other shop in Japan.
Yea agreed. Ginza boutique people were nice to me though and we spent 1hr+ together, just stuck at the policy during the conversation...

That’s strange, even as a foreigner they were friendly, albeit very formal, to me, and my SA was great. I always received excellent customer service and I wasn’t even local, so most of my communication was via email with my SA.

No limitation for either.

Update on this matter.

Talked to their Japan management in person. They clarified to me that they did have the policy in Japan (only earlier this year) which they, after review, thought was inappropriate. The intention was indeed to attract more female clients and allocate more to them. But they agreed that was the wrong way to enforce it, so they decided to discard the policy. However they did also remind me that strategically and commercially they would still strongly prefer to allocate to female client even though I am allowed to request the same watch.

I told him this would make much more sense and is acceptable to me. I know some of you might argue now that it is effectively the same outcome but I'm glad I did make a difference there by voicing my opinion against the wrist discrimination.

He said he'd reach out to my SA about my interested piece but so far nothing has happened. Well, that is it. Thanks guys for your input into this, for or against. And I wish you guys all great fun in the journey.

Thanks for the update. Really interesting thread.

I was in AP House with a friend yesterday and think that 37mm won't suit most women (even European women, who tend to have larger wrists than Japanese women) unless they want an oversized look. Sort of like men with 6.5 inch wrists wearing offshores. It's a certain look.

I think in Japan this policy then makes even less sense. However, 34mm lack choices for women without diamond bezels. I think they'd attract more women with variations without the diamond bezels and solve this 37mm allocation issue.

Yes your point makes a lot of sense to me. But you'll be surprised how many women nowadays do like 37mm or even 41mm watches, which I'm perfectly ok with. I hold the same opinion as you that 34mm works best for women and if AP provides more options for the 34mm category that would significantly reduce the allocation friction between male vs. female.

However AP is not working on 34mm options and many people's sizing preference is quite different from ours... anyways...
