I liked the 80's hair. Girls actually looked like they spent time styling it back then.
Ahh the 80's. Bring back the mullet.

Good morning Bill! ...Yep.....those 80's...Duran Duran, Thompson Twins, Alyson Moyet....it was the second British invasion in music- at least in Canada;
And the hair,, Lisa would agree, that ,in the 80's, curly hair ruled (for women)-if you did not have it, you permed! So for us curly-tops it was way less fussy to style.Nowadays- and for at least the last decade, straight hair rules, so hair flattening irons are mandatory
Here is what i look like only one hour after i straighten my hair:

that not cool ...it just doesn't hold....

Good Saturday morning coffeeshop;
Its a cool, cloudy fall-feeling day here- a perfect day for catching up on some house maintenance and repair! Our"to-do" list has gotten rather long so I'm going to start my fall cleaning campaign today! As soon as I finish my coffee!.....or maybe after the second cup.....
Anyway, cheers folks, have a good one!

Hi Michelle, how are you? Quiet in the coffeeshop at the moment. Where's Lisa?

Here's some pics of my front room, not much to show really. Haven't really got a pic of before, in fact even though I've done a fair amount nothing seems to of changed much.

Sofa's were red/orange before. These ones are new, think the only reason I got them was this fabric was the only one in the sale that wasn't hideous. New stone fire surround, was a cheap wood one before. I put all new skirting in, I had beading around the old one to cover a gap where they never fit the floor properly. Bookcase is new, all my AV kit is in there now, was on the floor next to my TV, managed to bury all the cables in the wall.

These are the new cushions, gotta wait till Nov to get matching curtains. I know the old curtains here look similar. Hope the new ones won't be so dreary though.

I have a new shaggy rug, it's not down yet as my dad likes to drop things. Guess what colour it is, white/cream. I may get get another one, brown/mink. Walls painted just off white. Think I have a fear of colour

Just think it is a bit dreary. The new curtains in the window will be floor length. Think it just needs some stuff to brighten it up. Lamp. Pictures on the wall, have a few nice bit of art will put up.

Any suggestions?

How's your makeover coming on Michelle?

Hi Wes, my makeover is on hold until i find the perfect sofa...and my requirements list for that is getting longer every day,,,,,; So I'm still in shopping mode,(I know, you are thinking,"what could be so complicated about a sofa?- well, i'll have yo explain sometime...)

Your living room pics are fantastic! The colour scheme is light and airy- not dreary at all! The new curtains will rock with what you've got going on IMO.
Just a few accent -type things to make the whole scheme Pop!

Here's some "popping" ideas:
the reds, and dark green accents:

another idea would be to use dark grey and black accents- have some nice green plants around the room to!

I like the bottom pic. (it just needs a few more green things-plants...)

Thanks Michelle. Yep understand, the sofa's are important. Gotta get ones you like, and can't do the rest till that's sorted.

Yep nice pics, black cushions would go well. And some green things, plants and stuff. Still thinking a pub pool table would look good if I throw out some of the chairs I don't use.

Wes, you're off to a good start - this is very tasteful and comfy looking! The new curtains will go great with what you have.

I'm with Michelle.... sage greens and black, and yellow would look pretty. You could do that with pillows, wall art (even fabric wall hangings) or rugs. Maybe even a big floor vase in black or sage green. I envision sage green pillows with black vines or some kind of black pattern on them, along with yellow pillows... Even had thoughts of a large zebra pattern rug... but I'm kind of wild about patterns and color.

PS -sorry I've not had time to hang out lately! We had two volleyball games and two birthday parties to get the girls to today... still haven't caught my breath.

Yes. This is her third year. So far this season they've won half their games. Half exactly. Last year they placed first in the league. Remember, we go to a "non competitive" school. So much so that a few students/families who wanted to be more serious about sports left for other schools that had a more aggressive athletic program. I know the girls would be killer if they had more assertive coaching. But, they're having fun.

That was pure gold!

Indeed, winning is great but I kind of like the idea of remembering that it's fun to participate anyway. One can always put some effort in order to win but we shouldn't see a defeat as something bad, just something that happens sometimes and that reminds us that victory shouldn't be taken for granted!

Besides, there is always some fun in participating anyway (says the guy who doesn't remember the last time he won any game of something...)!

Lisa just reminded me of what happened this week to my sons HS varsity soccer team during a game. The keeper got 2 yellow cards (equalling a red card/suspension) for opening his mouth and 2 other kids quit. 2 are coming back after their suspension. One kid threw away his senior year of HS soccer because of a bad attitude. Meanwhile the team has to play without them. This is division 1. These aren't easy games and these kids skills will be missed.
Yep, even competitive sport is supposed to be fun. The rest of the team is paying the price for these kids and their immaturity.
So I joke with Lisa but in reality I agree with her 100%. No, more than 100%. I want more. MORE.

I have kind of mixed feelings about the "non competitiveness" philosophy, though, especially now that the girls are getting older. It wouldn't take too much work from their coaches to really improve some of the girls. I mean, some of them still haven't even learned how to serve, and miss every single serve they try during the games. Right into the net, or way out of bounds, or far short of the net. The coaches just kind of look the other way. Teaching better technique isn't that difficult... isn't it what coaches do?

Yes it is. If the coaches aren't teaching the girls to be better at the necessary skills of the game they're doing them a disservice. If they're not teaching the skills, why are they there?
We've experienced the same thing with baseball. Luckily he was able to get onto another team with another coach who really taught him a lot. I wish we'd have been able to start with that guy at the beginning. Ethan has a lot of respect for that guy.

Ok, will see what I can do. Will post up a pic again when I get the curtains and it's hopefully done. Don't know about the zebra rug, I'm just not that adventurous. I'm Mr beige.

Well it can be the dads that are competitive here. They scream abuse at the referees, during their kids football matches. Even been known to run on and punch the ref out.

I almost got into a fistfight with one of those dads once. There was a teenage girl line judge at one of my sons soccer games and some butthead dad was giving her a load of grief. Seriously some guy in his 40's was picking on a teenage girl. Yeah it got ugly real fast. He ended up leaving. That was years ago.

Hi Lisa! Great minds think alike Wes should just go on a vacation, leave us the keys to his place (and a credit card) and we will stage his place! Don't worry Wes, everything we acquire for you would be on sale,

We might even be able to incorporate a pub pool table...somewhere on your property....

With regards to competative sports- hockey is just as susceptible to penalties/suspensions for poor player attitude, and poorly behaved (loudmouth) parents, as soccer and baseball etc. However Hockey is, as far as I know, the only sport that allows interruptions in the game for fistfights and brawls ....Many fans of NHL and OHL hockey are downright disappointed if a fight does not occur at least once in a game......its disturbingly gladiatorial IMO....
