Been kind of quiet here gals... Nothing to chat about? I didn't even watch the Superbowl... How's that for atypical male behaviour? No, don't even go there... My testosterone level is just fine, elevated as usual... :)

I know.... I get moody and don't have any chatting to do. My kiddos have been sick - again! Phoebe's had such severe bronchitis a small part of her left lung is collapsed (not as scary as it sounds, doctor says) - coughing and coughing night and day. And June has scarlet fever and has been sick since Friday with fever over 104 at times. Trying to get medicine down her is awful - it's just been pitiful around here.

But some good stuff - Vu's watch arrived today. I gave him a call and it was fun to give him the news.

Didn't watch the Superbowl, Pat? Good for you! I'm so glad football and most sports in general aren't a big deal at our house. So many people here are so rabid about OU football... yawn... it's just a game, you know? Heh - bet I'll catch it now!

Here's hoping you don't... (chants unintelligibly) Collapsed lung/Scarlet fever/104º is scary stuff Strept throat gone nuclear? Certainly sounds like you've got your hands full.

I take my health for granted. Rarely get sick. Maybe a cold every couple/three years, that's it. I know I get 'fuzzy' if my temp gets over 101º or so... I can't imagine 104º.

Poor kids, they've got to be miserable. Sending get well and no sick-ee vibes your way via the space-time continuum.

Thanks for the good wishes. I rarely get sick, either - but with kids, I guess it's that combo of immature immune systems, exposure to all those other kids in school, poor handwashing, and the time of year. Yes - it's the strep bacteria that causes scarlet fever. It's not the terror it was a hundred years ago (I think back to old Bonanza episodes) but you do have to get the kiddo on antibiotics and she'll miss a few days of school. And it was somewhat interesting to see the symptoms - her little tongue turned white with red dots and then overnight turned bright shiny red, like she'd been eating cherry popsicles. Wild.

Ah, well. We'll all be okay. I'm just having a cranky day!

Boy, did I ever get flashbacks reading THAT. It seemed to me that the only time my four boys could get sick is if they could (a) time it so they'd all be sick at the same time, and (b) do it at a time when I was physically and emotionally at my own lowest!

I also totally get the "just don't feel like chatting thing"........

Thinkin' of ya, girl. [HUG]

It was almost the second quarter when Al eventually wandered down and turned the TV on. We were upstairs chatting about stuff that just somehow seemed to become more important at the time. Then he kept pausing the game in "real time" and when I remembered that I need to press record on one my fav shows..."House"....we discovered that doing so killed the "real time" and obliterated the whole half-time show. I wasn't a very popular girl after that.

P.S...Life's revenge is always sweet......when I finally got to watch House last night....only the first 21 minutes were recorded.

Thank you, Nancy! I'm still here checking the forums as usual - just not blabbing as much. Things are much better today as the antibiotics are doing their work.

Oh - what do you think of my new avatar?

Thanks, Mireyna. I was going for that crazy housewife thing. I've been chuckling all week at a funny, flambouyantly gay furniture salesman who was teasing me about being a vodka-bottle slinging mom getting her kids off to school... kinda had to be there but I was in stitches!

I'm just a sucker for funny, flambouyantly gay furniture salesmen.

How are you liking your new floors? Is your new furniture in yet?

Thanks, Paulie. I found more fun avatars to rotate eventually.... and the kids are going to be just fine. Phoebe went back to school, and June is finally eating and drinking again. Nancy's right - they seem to all get sick at the same time!

My son is home sick today too. Stomach ache, headache, vomiting - nothing sleep, dry toast and ginger ale can't cure.

Furniture is arriving tomorrow! I can't stand sleeping one more night in our spare room! I guess that bed is a good way to not have guests stay too long!

I hear you!

Three of our four are sick and the other is a 14 year old girl in love; which is its own form of sickness. Since the wife and I work together she can take the time off, but that means I have to cover for her. Rather do that than be at home with three sick kids. Oh well, its that time of year.

Now just hope that your husband doens't get sick as well! I'm glad everyone is feeling a bit better.

You know, you really need a vintage rotary telephone in your house. I have one that was made in 1968, and it sounds better than the new cordless one!

Carolina, we used to have one but finally ebay'ed it away because it was hard to hear from. But I really do need an old rotary dial, or at least early push-button, because our old telephone nooks have phone jacks nearby but no electrical power source. Is there even a telephone made today that doesn't require electricity to operate?

Ebay, baby! Oh, try this site: www.frillfreephones.com

A rotary phone only needs the phone jack - no electricity. This also means that it will operate when the power goes out. I have a turquoise blue rotary telephone in the bedroom that is the clearest and best sounding phone in the house. I think I paid $15+shipping for it from eBay, about 4 yrs ago. My house isn't retro, but I love the vintage and unique look it has.

All right, there's my new research project. A neat princess phone would be good for the kitchen. I'm with you - frustrating to have the phone quit working when there's no power. Dangerous, too - during our ice storm the only communication I could do for nearly 3 days was on my cell phone - and had to charge it from the car. Not ideal!
