Yes Carl, thought there was something wrong last night. I woke up in bed suddenly, bolt upright and said, Something is wrong. Must of sensed you almost took a wrong turn. (Spidey sense) Then fell back to sleep peacefully.

Glad to know your spidey senses work a little bit Wes...now you just need to learn how to actually wake up and shoot webs all the way to my car to actually help!

That's what made me want to keep driving towards your province Michelle. Alas, I don't think I would have been able to file a lot of brass in your house...

maybe not...but, (after seeing your thread about your successful fuse change), I think we could find some work for you at Mark's shop, (can you change tires?)

Woh! Slow down my friend! I'm not that good, it took me about 15 minutes just to find the fuse box!

If Patek doesn't beg me to work for them (which is unlikely given the obvious effort I put in my work...) I shall consider your offer...

Good morning coffeeshop,
Well we Canadians survived another Thanskgiving meal- not often the kind of meal one worries about cholesterol, sodium, fat and sugar.......
Anyway its back to a couple of months of healthy eating...preparing for Christmas with it's onslaught of edible vices...
What would be the date of the American Thanksgiving- I know its in November sometime...
Wes- do Brits enjoy a pre-Christmas glut-fest? I know you don't have a Thanksgiving...

Now I'm looking for some culinary advice- what better place then in the coffeeshop....I will be hosting our "3rd Annual Fondue-Fest" in a couple of weeks; I'm looking for any chicken-pork-beef marinade ideas; (I have always used bottled ones) Also, I need some input into what kind of oil to use ; I have always used beef broth in a fondue- as its supposed to be way healthier then peanut oil. But this year I want to have at least one pot with oil as I hear the meat cooks up kind of crispy..... So the question is- what "healthy" oil would be good at a high heat? I know that olive oil is not recommended......any thoughts?

Hi everyone.

Michelle, did the weekend go ok, did you get to spend it with your folks?

No, no more holidays for us till Xmas. Still not sure why guys have thanksgiving, but hey the more holidays the better.

Sorry can't help much with the marinade ideas, maybe stick a bottle of red wine in.

Michelle, in the USA Thanksgiving always falls on the 4th Thursday of November.....so the actual date fluctuates each year!!!
Take it easy.....Leo

On this side of the pond we LOVE our holidays! Canada even recently invented another one- "Family Day" in February- to bridge the gap in long weekends between Christmas and March break...

While we did not make it up to the cottage, Mark and kids and I had a nice dinner with my parents at their place;
Re- marinade ideas...no worries Wes- maybe I'll google Jamie Oliver ideas; And we will have plenty of red wine going around

Yes, many people have the Friday off from work so it becomes a long Holiday weekend. Also that Friday is known as 'Black Friday' and is suppose to be the biggest shopping day of the year. And you are correct we go down to my brother's house in Southwest Missouri(Ozark's)on the Monday before the Holiday and stay all week. But we do not get up early and go shopping on Friday. Also for the past couple of years the 'Black Friday' has turned into the whole weekend of sales and specials!!!
Take it easy.....Leo

Chicken/pork/beef marinade idea for Michelle (I made this up - proportions are guesstimates!)

3 T peanut oil
3 T sesame oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1 tsp brown sugar
Juice from 1/2 fresh lemon
1 crushed garlic clove

Marinate meat for several hours in fridge....

Good morning coffeeshop,
Lisa- your beautiful birthday watch looked amazing in your post on the parenting thread! I tried to post this message on that thread yesterday- but ran into some technical difficulties....I'm assuming everyone had a troubling "data base error" glitch?
Anyway- TGIF! have a happy day!

Good Morning, Michelle!

I tried to post several times yesterday and got the same error message. Hope today will be better.

It's raining and thundering and the kids are home from school for Fall Break. We'll have to find something to do today! Maybe a trip to the arts/crafts shop is in order. Then I'm meeting a commercial real estate broker at Mom's property after lunch. I've decided to hand over the sale to a pro... but the good news is that he thinks the land will sell for a lot more than I thought.

Hi Lisa- best of luck with the realtor!
What to do on a rainy day...arts& crafts would have worked for my kids too!
We used to do family game times too- big bowl of popcorn and Monopoly....good memories!
Well its sunny and chilly here, and I'm off to my riding program now,
have a great day!

Good morning everybody!

Michelle, have fun at your riding program today, I hope it's as nice at your place as it is in Trois-Rivières (although it is a tad cold around here).

Lisa, good luck with the sale of your mother's property, I hope everything will turn out well with this realtor you hired.

I'm going to start a thread about it shortly (perhaps in a few days) but I wanted to let you know that I finished my brass triangles yesterday! They've been filed, sanded, polished and stored in small Ziploc bags!

I'm starting to work on a vice today, I need to make it out of a much thicker brass block (I bet you guessed this one...it's still brass! ) but it has a much more interesting shape than what I've worked on so far (I need to make the corners round this time...ouhh! ). I'll keep you updated!

Carl, best of luck with your rounded corner brass block... when you round the corners, do you have tools to calculate/measure the curves, or is it done by sight/judgement alone?

Well technically (as per the plan) they want some precise measurements but the teacher told me to do it by sight.

So who wants a Xmas card this year?

Well look what Michelle has sent me. Her own design cards. Well the artwork is simply incredible. These pics doesn't do them justice. They really sparkle with the glitter on them. Amazing.

My friends/family won't believe I am actually sending cards this year, let alone these ones. Thanks Michelle.

Lisa, good luck with the realtor, sounds like it's a good way to go, let somebody else you trust manage the sale. Hopefully maximise the sale price and take some stress off you.

Michelle, good luck today with your riding program. Hope your have a great day. Thanks again for the cards. I'm not gonna get away with sending you one of your own cards for Xmas

Carl, good luck with your block.

Thank you Wes...

And I'll have to agree with you on the cards, I had the idea they would look good but I didn't expect such drawings, they are really beautiful!

Good job Michelle!

Hey coffeeshop! If any of my shop friends want to PM me their address, I'll send you my 2012 card! (still in design process)! Wes I'm happy they got to you safe and sound.
Carl- I will look forward to any pics you post of your metalwork- they may look simple enough, but i can appreciate the amount of time and effort involved in hand done work!
The riding program went really well today- worth posting about because today was the first- since the start of the program, that i did NOT get bit! I tried holding the horse's head a different way (When the rider was mounting), and it worked!!! This grumpy mare was unable to chomp on me

Great news about not being bit Michelle, I hope you keep using that trick!

Thank you for the comments on my work as well, the thread has been posted earlier today!
