There have been some nice examples of art in this thread - if you could find prints of them... my favorite pieces in our house were found in antique and junk shops!

Yes, just messing with ya a little bit Lisa

I have got some paintings in other rooms, will move some to the front room. Got some original stuff from venice and florence. And my next door neighbour was a really good painter, bought one from him. He's moved now and I wished I brought more. Nothing too fancy though.

Been buying up some stuff lately for the decor job, candlesticks, lamp, vases etc. Gotta get it looking like the Laura Ashley catalogue

No zebra rug yet

Well, geez - you don't need any advice, then!

Are you sure you won't change your mind about the zebra rug? You can get them in beige and white...

I do need advice, it's a bit hard bringing you along on a shopping trip when I'm in front of the stuff choosing.

Hmmm, beige and white, that's still a bit adventurous. I like the sound of the beige bit though. Maybe an alpaca print rug.

Good morning coffeeshop! I'm all rested up and ready to tackle any decision making that needs doing today
You all are going to laugh when you see what all the fuss was about over the perfect "it". First off I'll explain why I'm redecorating my family room walls at all- my new sectional sofa should be arriving, hopefully, 4 weeks from now , I've started the room's redec now so that when the wonder-sofa arrives, it will fit right into the new colour schemes etc.....ok, really I'm just impatient! Doing the walls, finding the perfect accent cushions and throws helps to relieve my tension over waiting for that really important thing.

Random thought happening.....how am I gong to handle the 4 to 6 weeks it takes to service my beloved YM?? Maybe that will be the time to acquire my next Rolex???

Anyway- here is my redecoration dilemma- I found an amazing clock that will go perfectly with the new sofa; the problem is the clock is big and round....every other wall art piece in the room is rectangular... (Wes, Carl Bill, your'e all saying "so what" right?) Hopefully Lisa understands the problem- the clock is disconnected from the rest of the room! So yesterday- i trudged and pondered my way thru many big stores trying to find the "it" that would tie in the clock to the rest of the wall stuff....
(I know you are all envious of the exciting life i lead....) My sister (the biker chic) is an interior designer and she is really into Feng Shui , so she has taught me a little bit about how things in a room should flow etc.
(very important note- Feng Shui is pronounced "fun shoy".....think "young boy")Just in case you want hang out with some interior designers sometime
Finally....here it is.. the object of my head ache ....

PS- totally ignore the furniture- its going bye-bye

Thanks Wes- you've got the idea,! Your mantle clock is beautiful!
I have a photograph that my brother took in Algonquin Park on mine- one of my treasures, as it took him 8 hours to canoe and portage (with his equipment) to get to this spot...(maybe a little OCD, but he is an artist too,)

The bird is a sticker on the window- it helps prevent birds from flying into our window...I actually need a couple more; I get them at hard ware stores;

Alpacas are the cutest!!
Here is a pic of one I met at the Ploughing Match last month- his name was Scotty, and the socks are made from his hair/fur...they are super soft and warm!

Michelle, have you looked at any museums catalogs? I used to love ordering from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

I am so far behind on everyone's doings that I've been a lil intimidated to post here, so forgive me and hello, everyone. Lisa, I like your new toilet, but I haven't seen your new watch yet. Are pics posted? Point me there.

Everyone: I am an art girl and have enjoyed yall's postings.

Crazy busy with getting new tech stuff (laptop and phone), travel planning, figuring out a backup generator system and getting that rolling, as well as work stuff.

But all is well...here was sunrise, from my kitchen porch:

Hiya, J. Glad to see you this morning.

My 12 year old will love your photos. Her class has been studying S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders and she is completely enthralled with the book. I'm sure she'll agree that your photos capture the meaning in Robert Frost's "Nothing Gold Can Stay."

Stay gold, Ponyboy!

I always enjoy the changes of fall, which I think we experience more profoundly because of being so exposed to the environment. One of the big ones is of course the skies, but another that is strange and perhaps not known outside of rural settings is the acoustics of ambient sounds. I don't know if it might be the drying down of the field crops (corn, soy), but something makes the trucks rumble like thunder in the fall whereas they are just normal when passing by at other times of the year. There's a definite difference in the sound and light. It's often startling. Another example is that, predictably, distant lights are less distant, because the leaves no longer obscure those distances.

We do have a really pretty pumpkin innocently perched on the front porch, unaware of the vicious fate it will soon meet...knives at the ready.

Gosh I loved that reference, Lisa. There was a pretty good movie of that book out years ago, with that interesting actor Matt Dillon.

Nothing Gold Can Stay

by Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

It's funny - I was nutty about the book but never saw the movie. I still have the paperback from 1974 (look at that 75 cents price!), complete with my 11-year-old's doodling, when I read the book. Phoebe was thrilled to have it and brought it to school during the study of that book. I also gave her my 1970s Levi's jeans jacket (I guess like the one Johnny wore), still in pretty good shape after all these years. She wears it every day to school.

Goodness, things are going fast around here!

Michelle, I really like that clock! If you can find a rectangular one then go for it but I must admit I would pass by the fact that it's not the same shape as the rest of the wall decorations, I find it too beautiful to let such a detail get in the way!

...Of course, an Atmos could be a good idea but at that price I'd rather buy a Jaeger-Lecoultre watch...

Jay, it's great to see you back in here! I love the pictures you just posted, beautiful sunset indeed!

It's a good thing pumpkins aren't very smart... he won't know to be afraid.

You've painted such a vivid image of your home, J... I can see and hear it just as you describe! Wonderful.

We bought Phoebe The Outsiders movie on DVD recently at her urging. I've watched bits of it, but am not sure I want to sit through the entire thing. It was a pretty good cast - the teen heartthrobs of the day - worth looking at just for that reason.

When I was a kid I never cared much for The Outsiders but I thought this book and movie were the freakin' Bomb!

Apparently I may have been the only one.
Maybe it's the boys version of The Outsiders.

I like the iphone ok but I need to try to not use data when out as we only have the cheap data plan on our account. The phone screwed up my contact list (360 numbers) by making the second word of each contact the searchable 'last name') so I'm spending my nights going through each one and copy/pasting them back in place. I have beefy hands and find the keyboard is ridiculously small.
I ordered an Otterbox case from amazon and am waiting for it to come in next week.
