Don't poppies produce opium?? I'm thinking that the movie's choice of a poppy field ,to inhibit the heroic band's journey to the Emerald City, was NOT coincidental!

PS- all we need is the Tinman and scarecrow...we have our Lion and he has courage!

Ain't no one in the "shop" who could be a brainless scarecrow.....we may have to search other forums for that character...
I would be the idealistic Glinda, Good Witch of the North...

Carl......would you like to be the Wizard?.....

oh boy....we need some munchkins....any volunteers?

Wes...just a thought.....you do have a lot of heart (as expressed thru your music).....also- you should note that the Scarecrow was Dorothy's Favourite Friend!!

soooo, (and I'm not saying you lack brains!) maybe you could be Scarecrow...

Well, I always had a soft spot for the Tin Man.... did you know that Buddy Ebsen was originally cast for the role, but he was terribly allergic to the silver paint?

Puppy? Um.... they're cute but I'm waiting for the "no-poo" variety to come out. That is, unless Toto can be trained to use the TOTO.

Carl, sounds like you're learning so much and doing well in school. How do you like the close-up work? It would seem to be stressful, doing such tiny work for hours at a time. I hope frequent breaks are given to stretch and run around!

How weird is it that Dorothy's daughter married the Tin Man's son?

I was just pondering this today while staring at my daughter's Wizard of Oz poster from childhood.

Yes, it is a very interesting movie behind the scenes. As mentioned above and as you know Buddy Ebsen almost died from the silver paint. He lived in Orlando and went to the local college near me, Rollins College. I love that movie.

There is a ride at Disney called The Great Movie Ride. The riders are taken through a movies set from the movie with the witches, munchkins, yellow brick road and so forth. Very neat.

Yes. His family owned a dance studio around here somewhere. Just wasn't meant to be. Strange how things like that work out. Maybe he wouldn't have been Jed Clampett if he kept the Tin Man role. I don't think the actors in the Wizard mad that much money, seems like I heard that somewhere. Don't know how true that is.

Is the ride a roller coaster?

No. You sit in a large moving object. Maybe has 10 rows that seat 6 people each row. It takes you through old movies scenes. James Cagney, Clint Eastwood, Casablanca, (my favorite all time movie), Wizard of Oz, Alien, Old mummy movies. Some others. I really like. We go to Disney World maybe once a week. We went to Epcot food and wine festival and the Magic Kingdom Sat eve. You must come visit.

You may be able to find home movies of it on You Tube. I know they are on there for some Disney Rides. That's how I do so well on Buzz Lightyear, I watch the video to find the targets with the highest point totals.

Don't tell my wife.

The Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favorite movies and as a child every year around the Holidays they would show that movie. Funny, but growing up with Black and White TV's I never knew that at a certain point in the movie it turned into a colored film.....boy was I surprised the first time I saw it in color!!!
Take it easy.....Leo

This "ride" I could do! You must have a season's pass Art! Do you have any secrets to pass on about avoiding the lineups? (Like going on a rainy day?)

I sense some competitiveness here!! Is the Buzz Lightyear ride an interactive "game" type thing?

We had a colour TV, but my parents taped it and played the audio of the movie for us as a "bed time" story....i remember being petrified at the part where the witch has D. locked in the tower room, with an hour glass running out of time.....the movie as a whole has such a cool message- that each of the characters, traveling to Emerald City, all wanted something badly; they discovered, thru their journey, that they had the sought after qualities all along- they just needed the confidence to bring those qualities out.
Poor Dorothy is an exception, I think; she was just plain used and abused by the Witch of the North and the Wizard- who needed her to help rid them of the Wicked Witch of the West! (Remember Glinda telling D. that she could have gone home from the very start- she just needed to click her heels together and chant "theres no place like home...") Why did they not tell her this trick right at the start!!

Yes, we have passes to go to the four main parks and that includes the parking. Parking is now $14. The passes are good for one year. We have had them for years now. We no longer get them for the kids as they are out of town at college and really got tired of going. Now the "baby" wants me to get her another pass. There are a number of "tricks" one learns. They have a fast pass one can get for certain rides to get to the head of the line. We don't worry about getting on many rides. We've been on them all many times. We wait in line and just talk and people watch, mainly go to eat, ride a ride or two, watch the parades and fireworks. Disney is nice at night and at Christmas time.

I sense some competitiveness here!! Is the Buzz Lightyear ride an interactive "game" type thing?
Yes, one sits in a car that fits two people, each person gets a ray gun that you aim at whimsical targets along the way. It's all set up with a Buzz Lightyear theme. Yes, I'm a big kid at that place.

Yes, we have a yearly pass and have renewed it each year for some years now. It allows us into the main parks and includes the $14 parking fee. There are tricks one picks up along the way. They have a fast pass system for certain rides that allows one to move to the head of the line at a designated time. We have been on all the rides many times and mainly go just to eat dinner, ride a ride or two, watch the parade and fireworks, gotta get a Mickey ice cream bar and popcorn. We don't mind waiting in line, we talk and people watch, we don't have to hurry. I love the place.

Lisa was here not long ago and didn't let me know.

True about the landscaping. Disney is meticulous with that. With the climate there are flowers and plants out all year. Most people are in such a hurry they never look at it. In the spring there is a garden theme for about a month. They have plants groomed into the shapes of the characters throughout the park. They call them topiaries. It draws many people who want to see that. If you need someone to ride with give me a shout.

Its good to know Disney is for "big kids" too! We have never brought our kids there, but I'd like to sometime- they may even appreciate it more now that they are older!

Sounds like the Spring garden theme is calling out to Leo!
Maybe we should have a coffeeshop get-together at Disney someday!
