If you sang in the car at the tire shop, there wouldn't have been a problem. No one would've heard you for two days

Same back at you guys!

Yes, I sing to, and with, my kids and in the car and when I'm cooking and whatever. Not all the time, but if the mood hits me. My grandmother was kind of a "nervous" hummer and it drove me nuts when she was around! "dum-de-dum, dee-dah de dum..." Non stop!

I'm like you guys in that I crave silence. I so rarely get it. That's why it's worth it to miss an hour or so of sleep after everyone's gone to bed - I love the quiet, uninterrupted silence.

Which segues right into the question... are you a morning person or a night-owl? I'm an intractable night-owl. Always have been, always will. It's my 'me' time. I can putter and do as I please without the distractions of the daily hubbub. No-agenda time is rare and I enjoy it. Same with silence. The night is my putter time and I'm a professional putter-er. Unlike so many, I don't have the radio, music and other stuff going all the time just to fill the void. Noise is easy to find, silence... not so easy. Come the weekend, I'm up until 2am minimum, sometimes later. The only bad part is Monday when I've got to be up @ 5am for the workweek. Monday's are a beeatch...

Pat, there's no denying that we are wired one way or the other. Dave's mom, who is 76 years old, stays up until 2 or 3 in the morning most nights. She doesn't get up until 9 or 10. Her husband, on the other hand, is asleep by 11pm and up by 7am. She would have been the perfect graveyard shift worker.

I tend toward night owl-ism, but like you, my responsibilities force me to get up early. When I was a surgical tech I worked the night shift pretty often, and it was my favorite shift, even when I was doing it weekends while in college. Talk about Monday hitting hard!

Early morning is okay, too, but it's just so hard to carve out any time there. A cup of steaming coffee on the front porch with no kids awake yet (like in the summertime) is pure bliss.

+1
Pretty much exactly what he said.I purposely stay up late most nights because:
1. I'm not a good sleeper - I get bored.
2. Afraid I'll miss something.
3. Decompress form work and my hectic after work schedule.

I know that even though the morning comes way too early I can always soldier on and make it through the day and stay up late again.
On Friday and Saturday nights I'm up late doing this and that while the house sleeps.

I love dropping in to lurk and read all these great little vignettes... this has to be one of the best threads ever on TRF... keep it coming ladies!

Good night! 4:30 am wake up for me... as usual! And the several feet of snow we have had over the past week is not helping with those early mornings...

Don't know, Mireyna - but I'm wondering, too! Maybe it's just been a busy week.

I sent Elaine a PM this morning, so we'll see if that gives us any info.

Pat, I wondered the same thing - her life is as dramatic as Chip's, if not more so!

Yes, the 'drama' with her friend sounded serious. I've been in distressed relationships before but... well, I'll stop now before I get into trouble. Suffice to say, I hope all's well halfway across the world.

Well, I don't mind saying it because I think Elaine might agree - that couple had serious issues. To call theirs an unhealthy, dangerous relationship is stating the obvious.

Nice! I never got that when my kids were little. Four boys.....one suffered from a severe anxiety disorder, one had night terrors and a third frequently experienced a type of seizure that occurred while he was still conscious, but caused terrifying hallucinations for him. All these things were HUGE between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Not a lot of quiet moments there.

I am 100% a morning person! I don't set an alarm clock and wake up at about 4:50 am., just before the coffee pot starts brewing, and if by any chance I'm still asleep at that time, I can hear the coffee pot come on and I'm awake. I sit here at the computer from 5:00 - 5:30 with my one daily coffee, and thoroughly enjoy the peace and quiet. That leaves me an hour and a half before I leave for work at 7:00 a.m. and I can get a number of things accomplished in that time. As for night....well.....this particular time of writing is a classic example. It's 10:08 p.m. and as much as I'm having a great time reading the posts and typing replies, my eyes are burning and my head is taking on a buzzy feel 'cause it's definitely my bedtime. So....on that note....all you night owls have fun and I'll catch up tomorrow.

Enjoy the silence, Lisa. Must be heaven for you......oh....and I totally love that early morning coffee on the porch......when the freezing cold and the snow are gone of course!

Oh, Nancy. I feel sorry for all of you, but I'd bet it took the biggest toll on you. Your one shot at relief from hectic days taken away.... how did you cope? You should be the one drunk and full of pills!

June had a night terror when she was about 14 months old. Only once and never again. That was enough for me.

What was the seizure disorder your third son had? That sounds very unusual - does it have a name?

A dynamite box from a dynamite gal... what could be better than that!

Elaine, that must have been one helluva party... Welcome back

On another note entirely... we had a new-hire start work on Monday. I held the door open for her on her intitial arrival. Her smile is rather disarming. She's from Connecticut based on her out-of-state license plate. She's attractive, seems very nice, of an appropriate age range, apparently enjoys talking with me and sure smiles a lot. I like that... hmmmm
