I like the black one - more colors. Ooh... Pretty colors.
So, Bill... are you going to break open the JD tonight? |

I really wanted the brown, but guess what, it's been discontinued. So got the black, cost more than I thought it would.
Really nice to chat watches with the manager of the store, he showed me the 1887 carrera, and was going on about the in house 1887 movement, I thought I read somewhere that it was a an old Seiko movement and a PR disaster. I didn't mention that. Hopefully they will send me some nice stuff in the post. |

Yeah I'm with you Art, feeling really guilty now about spending so much on a bag. I did love that bag though. It was beautiful and perfect size for travelling. Tag Heuer make better bags than watches. Whether the airline cough up more money or not, I could of just cashed it and bought a cheap bag. The more nice stuff you buy the more grief you have. It's so obvious the baggage handlers saw I nice bag and jammed it in the machine. I will never check it again. Oh well, I wonder what the Tag Heuer shop policy is on refunds, should of checked.

I'm a light traveler. I never go long and can always do with a carry on. That bag does look the perfect size. In fact, I come home with less than I take, toiletries, dirty underwear, socks, thing like that I leave behind. My wife on the other hand, last time she went overseas took 11 suitcases and brought back 13 of them. I had to have a buddy follow us to the airport with some of her junk in his car. It gets old, I'll tell you that. But, your right. The more nicer things one has the more problems one has traveling with them. I never take more than one watch now. Not worth the hassle.

You do that too? I do that and my wife thinks I'm strange. I tell her it's easier to pack for the return trip and to fit any souvenirs.

Good man. Yes, I buy new toiletries, leave them at home and take the used ones and leave them. Same with socks and undies. If I'm going to a location that would require large beach towel, which is rare, I buy one and leave it. Even shoes for wading in streams and so forth, buy cheap tennis shoes and leave them. It's just easier. I think it's our wives who are strange, Bill.

Yeah I guess so. Seems silly to have all those bottles. Truth is I'm not much of a drinker. Other than a few years when first legal I never have been. That's why I asked if there's any real benefit to it. Do you think Dave would know? Anyway I washed a couple of shot glasses and will start my medicinal JD regimen. It's a new year. I'm already resolved to dropping some weight. Maybe a shot now and then will help me live longer.

Wes...I know the straps on your bag got mangled but I do not remember about the rest of the bag. Could you find a leather worker who could make and dye new straps for the old bag and sew them on...and then you can still use the older bag? Then you would have two bags and use them for different purposes!!!
Take it easy.....Leo

Logo is too big and I'm not a fan of huge logo's. But of the two I'd go with the brown. It looks more elegant.

Ha! I have to force myself to have even one. No worries about going too far.
Perpetually responsible. Thanks for looking into it further for me. You're right though. I'll call the Dr and check that she approves. There are bigger more effective changes I need to make to be healthier. The drink a day was just one I wasn't certain about.

Bill, was wondering what you wear when out on your bike. Do you wear jeans? I got some Kevlar jeans, and these alpinestar boots. But was a bit naughty this summer, out in normal jeans and trainers. Kevlar jeans were a bit baggy, and I just don't want to be in these boots when I'm off the bike.
So what do you recommend as boots. These are both from Dainese I'm looking at, just I know if I get them from a motorcycle company they are designed with bikes in mind. Don't know whether caterpillar/timberlands would be safe/good to ride in. Bit worried about laces on a boot. |

I called the Dr. and she said No. She doesn't like how it would disrupt my sleep (I'm not known for sleeping well). While I'm free to have drinks if out socializing she just doesn't want me to start drinking daily, medicinally. Looks like I have to party more.

We were commenting about seeing a guy today riding a rice rocket, shorts, no shirt, no helmet and flip flops. It looked like he was just learning in congested Orlando. He looked old enough to know better.

Ducati Monster 620. Only had my license for a year, first bike. And never come off one. Wanna wear some decent protection, and not get sloppy i.e wear trainers. Obviously have a decent jacket/helmet/gloves. But wanna wear jeans(Kevlar) and normal looking boots.

These are called motorcycle boots and look cool, Replay and Dr Martins. But I don't know if there just fashion and are no good for protection. Last thing you want is them to be ripped off in a crash.

thanks Gus, they look nice. Will see if they are available in the UK. Can't get them shipped from US in case they don't fit. Awesome looking bike.

I support ATGATT within reason and always wear a helmet. I have a Schott textile jacket with armor and zip in liner. I wear that on the really cold days. The rest of the time I wear a leather jacket I got from Hot Leathers. Surprisingly well made for the cost. And here's the bad news. When it's hot (85-90 degrees hot) I just wear jeans and a shirt. I've looked into armored mesh and I may get some at some point but for now I just ride, commute and travel as comfortably and safely as possible. Obviously all highway and travel is full gear.
So, do you ride spirited? Do you commute? Do your boots need to conform and not look silly when you get to your destination or do you ride in circles and drive to your destinations? If you ride spirited and only ride in circles (just leave home, ride and then back home) then the Alpinestars would be best. Otherwise the others should be fine. I like pull on harness style motorcycle boots for myself on my Valkyrie F6C but the cheap ones I own really don't fit well so I wear my Hi-Tek medium weight hikers. I don't worry about laces.

Just wanna normal looking boot that's comfortable off the bike. Went to a few parties/bbq's this summer and wore trainers. Look like a power ranger in them alpinestars. Really inexperienced rider and don't commute on it. Can take my car if raining. But I'm very aware that everyone says you come off a bike at some point.

Yes and you have to protect yourself but you don't have look like you just came off a track day to do it. Unless you like the flashy look - that's up to you.
I wouldn't wear sneakers though. At least some ankle protection is a must.
