He'll probably flip it for a sub ND.

Dan, I'm definitely thinking a gtg is overdue. Let's let these holidays wind down and the let's figure out what to do.

Dan WOULD NOT flip a gift from his Uncle Ed.

Too nice a guy for that.

My father-in-law gave me a firm hand shake and a word of advice. He said, "Remember that as men, we are all dumba--es. The sooner you accept that, the better off you'll be."

Short of my father, god rest his soul, he is the best man I know. Rolex or no. Sounds like you made out pretty well regardless. Though I was rooting for you!

I hope there will be an update on your birthday!

As much as it was exciting to follow your hopes for a new Rolex, it is a bit bizarre to sit and hope that your FIL with gift you a Rolex, or post about how he gives you cash IMO. If you can marry his daughter and provide for your family, you can get your own Rolex watches as well.

Yep, can get my own watches myself just fine. I thought this was a Rolex forum to share our passion and excitement for the brand and watches in general. Thank you for reminding me there is one in every crowd and why I will not be posting as much in the future.

It's just one person sharing their opinion. You don't have to like his view; most of the people on this thread, including myself, were excited to see if you would get it! I would not let this deter me from posting in the future. Any opinion forum is likely to be met with both support and opposition, otherwise it would be a blog!

Happy posting!

You are right Bill, I will most certainly post in the future. I am just going to be more reserved. One thing that I have to remember is that everyone is not in the same economic world that I am fortunately in and I realize that some things can be taken wrong by those who are not. After reading some of the posts of others, I am reminded that while a new Rolex is not a big deal financially for me or my family, it is to many people and getting such a gift from their in laws is not common place to most. I think I made a mistake by believing that I was on a LUXURY forum that everyone would understand and such things would not be taken the wrong way.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your analysis.

I didn't take anything the "wrong way". It is not about luxury, or your "economic world" vs mine vs any others. It is about values. According to mine, I pay my own way, regardless of the financial situation of my parents or in-laws. Actually, perhaps as a wedding gift. I know that is the tradition in some countries that the bride or the bride's family gives the groom a watch as a wedding gift - a wonderful tradition, I think.

Regardless, my statements are not meant to rain on your parade or be mean, I simply found the whole thread a bit bizarre and voiced my opinion. That is after all why we have a forum...
