Thanks for the pictures. I must say I was thinking it would be sportier looking and overall I don't like the look of it too much. I'll be interested to hear the price . . . all gold with an annual calendar, it's not going to be cheap.

It's not my kind of watch, but I am pretty sure that my grandfather is going to like it.

it looks like a DJII with some bells and whistles (nice bells and whistles, mind you)....with the DJII overtones, i just don't get why they named it "sky-dweller". it does not look like a "sports watch".
i don't mind the lower-number cut-offs, but, what i DO mind is the cyclops intruding on the ring. VERY BAD. anyway, nice to see something different, but, it's not something i'm lusting after. |

Wow. After watching the video I have to say this thing is pretty awesome. The small boxes beside each roman numeral actually denote what month it is by changing the color of it darker! The bezel functionality is pretty sweet too. Considering all that this watch does it is amazing. It also looks wayyyy better in the video too.

They absolutely ruined this watch with the fluted bezel. It would have been awesome with a white ceramic bezel.

Sky-Dweller Future
Not liking any of the "Super-Sized" cases, the shine of the ceramic bezels and the DJIIs of recent years, I was actually surprised at how much I liked the Space-Dweller (at least the potential of the watch). That being said, I agree with many of the comments about the design of the watch. If anyone at Rolex is reading, this is what I would recommend:
Stainless Steel Brushed Finish Rhodium Stick Dial 40MM Consistent Number Fonts And the watch would be awesome! |

Wow, not my cup of tea at all. Looks like a Franken-watch to me.
Font conflicts, color conflicts, fluted bezel - lots of mismatching design traits. Cant believe this one made the retail floor.

Frankly, the Sky-Dweller design is not to my liking. However, I must admit that the new movement is interesting for its spec, and it is much better looking than the previous calibres. (72hrs power reserve, annual calendar, months display and 24hr gmt)
At least we can now expect more complication from Rolex.

Well, the buildup of potential excitement over the Sky Dweller has now fizzled for me. I'll wait awhile before I decide if I like it or not. On the other hand, I like the ND Sub.......would have loved it @ 42mm and I have small wrists.

I would wear it, but would never pay what it will inevitabley cost $35K+ Blue yachtmaster looks pretty good. I want a blue faced watch and will need to consider it along with DJ2 blue stick, and Sub-C TT.

Can't read 5 pages, but get the jist you guys dont like.
We had the same reaction with the explorer 2 last year. I think it looks kinda cool apart from the bezel, it spins or something? |

Well, many of us have been saying "wouldn't it be nice if Rolex made a complication?" ... well, they did and here it is.
It looks like they got the message but spent all their time on the complication stuff and forgot basic design asthetics. However, remember Patek, A. Lange, and others have been in the complication design business for many years. This is Rolex's first attempt (except maybe the YMII). Let's hope they continue down the complication road but learn from it as well. There's no reason the think they can't compete with the above mentioned companies and at a lower price point - just not with this thing. imho By the way, I watched the video. What does turning the bezel do?

I think it's a great achievment. Design, not as some might have hoped, but I'm sure over time it'll grow on you. Maybe a SS version down the road with additional dial variants would be interesting.

The biggest problem with this IMO isn't the questionable design, but rather the fact that if you're in the market for an 18K annual calendar with 24H time, you can get a Patek 5035 for considerably less, or a 5036 on bracelet if you don't particularly care about 24H time but do like a bracelet instead of a strap.
Its sort of like if Toyota decided to make a rear engined flat six sports car. Great idea, but isn't there someone else that already does that?
