While we are back on topic...

Modifying private property - say a watch or a car - is not a crime in the USA. Misrepresenting replicas as genuine would fall into fraud.

Certainly go back to the store that you purchased (or call) and explain what happened (to the manager) and see where it goes.
Agree, then ask them why they sold you a fake watch as stated by the moron at their other store. BTW, they cannot confiscate your watch, should of called the police on him...attempted theft of a modified, genuine Rolex SS Daytona.

Pretty sure Florida is the last place I would look to have an encounter like this.

I understand now why the mods don't want this subject talked about on here. It's not like it was a life or death situation so why even think about turning it into one? I'll not say anything more because there is no reason to get this thread locked. it looks like it was just some stupid salesman trying to be Barney Fife. It sounds like the manager in no way agrees with what the salesperson did and hopefully he gets a suitable punishment.

It never ceases to amaze me that some folk around here just don't seem to get the rule of no gun talk Gunter.. Let alone brandish this thread with a pointless stance of deadly threat over it.
And as you said, the situation didn't even warrant a reply of that magnitude!!!

The OP was treated poorly, and as much as I hate to say it, I've heard of similar things pertaining to altered Rolex watches....
Still, that would be the last time I step foot in that AD!!!

Back on topic, and no more gun involvement please!

I would file an official complaint with the manager and district manager since there are three stores in your city. you can even file battery charges With the police against the salesperson if he grabbed you that will teach him to ever do anything like that again.

On this one, I have to say that Wayne Brady would need to smack 'a bitch.

P.S. I cannot abide dealing with someone who cannot get their homonyms right. In my mind, this not only applies to your/you're but also to accept/except. Don't bother with idiots, IMO, you will only get what they may pander.

I would not let it lie. I'd be back in there today and getting a full apology and some gift of some sort. That sales person needs a lesson.

I suspect that the salesman is and has gotten a proper lesson. The manager seems to be on top of it spelling mistake aside.

First of all I'm no "tough guy", I'm just me. Second of all if someone tried to "confiscate my watch" like the OP stated, I'm getting physical. I'm not sure what your problem is, maybe you would just let somebody take your watch and take the "lawsuit" approach, but that's you. I'm done with you because obviously you're fishing for some kind of confrontation with me for some reason.

I bought the watch to enjoy myself, I will never sell it or trade it away. I understood by switching the dial and hands I would not be able to send it to a Rolex service center again, I knew that and was fine with it.

Rolex needs to get over themselves with this attitude towards people making mods. I totally get they don't want to work on a watch that has been modded, a number a reasons for that. IMO the watch I have now is 100x better looking than when I bought it a few months ago and for Rolex and this dumb ass AD to look down on me for that is just a shame.
I think you're missing the point a little.

Now clearly we ALL agree that this rude and obstreperous sales guy was absolutely and utterly out of order in the manner he dealt with you... no question....... and no excuses...........

However, the simple reason you will always be asked about the authenticity of your Daytona in a Rolex AD (if you allow the staff to handle it) is because you have modified a watch costing SS prices to look like a WG watch costing considerably more. If Rolex allowed all unsundry to swap dials in their SS watches to look like a WG Daytona, what do you think would happen to the demand for the original WG version...... For most people it is not that easy to acquire a WG dial and have their watches modified...... and this will presumably be why the sales guy initially questioned your watch for authenticity. His attitude thereafter is inexcusable.

But you cannot talk about modifying a Ferrari in the same terms since you have to buy the Ferrari at Ferrari prices first. If you could buy a Fiat (who own a majority stake in Ferrari) and with a simple exterior modification make it look more or less like a Ferrari, then I would imagine there would be similar defensive positioning and they would behave in the same way Rolex do to try to protect their top of the range product line from such modifications.

I struggle to see why you don't understand this concept. The fact you think it looks 100 x better with the modification is irrelevent. You have a wannabe watch .... end of story..... and parading it in front of Rolex (anywhere in the world) will undoubtedly get remarks (hopefully no where near as disgracefully rude as this idiot)..... but you will get remarks none the less. So a choice you have made when you modified your watch.

I'm not fishing for a confrontation; I merely responded because you responded.

I wouldn't allow some idiot to try to confiscate my watch either, but I wouldn't punch or strangle someone in the process, because, anonymous internet bravado aside, in the real world, there are consequences, like arrest for assault and battery.

This thread has become a bit too personal with attacks flying back and forth. Everyone has had their say. It's now time to be done with this and move on to other topics.
