4 All black Rugby shirt.

5. Do make the effort and have a shave and wear some nice after shave..

If you are trying to finance it you should look nice.
If you come in and pay cash like I do, they could care less
as youre the best looking customer in the store at that point
(as long as your AD is not some big chain, if its a chain most
dont care about cash or credit)

It is always dumb for a salesperson to "go into your pocket" no matter how you are dressed; now it is twice as dumb in these economic times.

Heck show up in grungy oil stained overalls and announce that you do repo work for BMW USA and are treating yourself as it's been a good year.....

When I bought my Rolex Explorer, I was wearing jeans, a black NRA Second Amendment Task Force t-shirt and an Invicta 8926.

I was treated with dignity throughout the process.

My AD sent me a thank you note a couple of weeks later.

im a young person in my low 20s, i've gone in there dressed like normal jeans and a polo, no watch on wrist, but cash in my pocket tho, i went in there, first sales man didnt even say anything to me, then the other one asked if i needed anything i said i was looking for a rolex, he simply says we dont sell used ones here, then i see this nice young lady, i smiled at her she smiled back i go over there and asked help with rolex she went and helped, the other ones were like looking and laughing, i pulled out about 5.5k out of my pocket in bills of 100s, let me tell you, their jaws dropped, ohh and my TT sub was in my pocket as well, i took it out and told the lady to put it in the box since i wanted to wear my new sea dweller

My AD is in a mall. My usual attire is work clothes, jeans and casual sports shirt. They were as attentive on day 1 as today (after 3 Rolexes purchased this year), well, maybe a wee bit more today...

My AD should be the one who is well dressed when trying to sell me a watch. As far as I'm concerned I do not feel the need to dress to impress somebody who's trying to impress me enough to make a sale.

Copied and pasted from another recent thread,

You are supposed to wear pants when wearing a Rolex?

I would tend to agree that pants (or shorts) would be appropriate in most stores.

I put on a suit and tie to go pick up my Daytona when they said it had come in, but really, that was just for me; I wanted to get dressed up for what was a very special occasion. I think the times I went in there to talk to them about it I was in gym clothes!

I know it happens, but NO salesman/woman no matter what they are selling should ever judge a customer by what he/she is wearing. It will usually, but not always come back to haunt them.

When I went shopping for mine, I stopped at the mall where the AD is located on my commute home from work. I rank like grease and oil after work, and usually my clothes are pretty craptacular, and 90% of the time I have more than a few weeks beard going. The lady I had help me was great. I explained to her what I was there for, and that I was just getting ideas for the time being, but that their store was probably be the one I'd be buying at. I explained to her what I liked and disliked, my pricerange, and then she took me around the showroom and suggested various watches that I may like and let me try on whatever I asked for. I came across the Sub and said thats it, thats what I've always wanted, she took it out, let me try it on, even went and adjusted the bracelet for me so I could get a better feel for it. I had to have it, but was in the middle of buying a car at the time. I explained to her the situation and she discussed the options with me, finance, layaway, etc. I left for a couple hours then came back, paid for half of it with cash and paid the rest a month later. When I came back to pick it up, the lady I dealt with was not there, and from the looks on their faces you could tell they were not looking at me too seriously. The lady working the cash looked stunned when she asked me how much I'd be putting on it today, and I said the remainder of the balance.

I went back to the same ad a couple weeks ago to see if they had a Deepsea since I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. The lady I dealt with before wasnt working but I was asked if I needed help almost immediatly. I was wearing baggy jeans and a hippy poncho sweater, a ball cap and about a month and a half of beard on my face. I told her that I wanted to see if they had a deepsea, and indeed they did. I took off my sub and held it up to the display case to get some ideas of the size of the ds, then asked if I could try it on. She was pretty reluctant, despite the fact that I was rattling off specs about it and was aware that I was wearing a Rolex purchased from their store (she started telling me about financing and when she was done I told her I just bought this one from your store, it might be a while before i can get another) I'd be more than happy to go back there for another purchase, but when I walked through the door dressed like a bum, you could see it on their faces, just that look.

Without getting too personal here, what type of outfit do you wear when going to an AD? And how were you treated?
At a charity golf tournament back in 98? I got to play along with alice cooper
who told us that "He was shopping for a few new Benzs at a north Scottdale
dealer and nobody would help him because he had on a t-shirt and tore up blue jeans on" He guessed some saleaman figured out who he was and
offered to help him and he bought 4 new M-B's that day and gave the salesman a big tip for helping him on top of the commision he got from the dealer. You just never know who might help.
Alice wears a gold rolex day/date....or did that day we played....
and he if one heck of golf player too....could be a pro.

I live in the deep south where it is warm most of the year. More often than not I'm in a short sleeved shirt and my former GMT and current Expy II (White Face) stick out like a sore thumb.

Whether it is right or wrong to judge my customer worthiness based soley on my timepiece....it gets attention...that is the fact that I am wearing a Rolex. I see the sales force getting that wristshot.

As to what I usually wear....khaki's and a Polo or Izod shirt with loafers.

I wear a polo shirt and shorts. I think one should dress nicely, but not as if one was going to work or a job interview.

I hear stories too; you are not getting treated nice if you are not dressed nice. I never had this problem I have to say. I have to be dressed nicer for work and I am in jeans and t-shirt on weekends, my time to see an AD.

My last experience here in Louisville was a very good one..Davis Jewelers...
Great customer service, very friendly staff. I always feel welcome and visited the store always in jeans!

Well if they dont want my money it's ok with me i'll go to another AD

Dress code for buying a watch ?

For gods sake you are buying a watch you are not buying a corporation

If they dont like my appearance it's ok with me somebody else will get my money though

AD's should stop being so cocky

Went to Mayors in Aventura, FL this weekend. Had jeans, polo shirt and my Millie GV. There were only two salesmen in the store and not one of them asked if I needed help when I walked in. One was standing not too far from me while I was checking out the Rolex section and the other was talking to a customer. I overheard their conversation and he was telling the customer that the Daytona was discontinued and how he should take advantage of a black face Millie he had in the safe. The customer said no thank you and walked out. I almost interrupted them and said that's not true I got one last week. (which I did) But I didn't feel like getting into it.

Meanwhile, after about 10 minutes the one that was just standing around asked me if I needed any help. I asked to see a WG Daytona on a leather strap. She reluctantly took it out and let me look at it. She didn't say one word after that. I looked at it for a few minutes and the only thing that she said is that they don't put the green sticker on the back anymore. I handed it back to her and said never mind I like mine with the green sticker..

They were like selective vultures trying to make a sale.

vzmax, thanks for sharing. I truly hate how arrogant and ignorant most sales people are. It's actually amusing when they lie to you and make it so obvious.

I reccomend that you wear either a cheque book, cash or a credit card.

Nothing else is required.

I hope some AD's are looking at these discussions! Even within the same chain, there are sales people who would go extra to make a sale and others just look stuck up and pre-judge you as you walk in. If the owner knows, then he or she can fire the rude ones.
I wonder if stores with people working for commission are different than ones who only give salary to their sales.
