Yes, I think so. The V serial number, S letter is flat S on G serial number the S letter is round.

Font changed during V cases, so it could be either.

I know this is going to sound dumb, but...is the illumination self powered as in it does not need charged by something like sunlight?

It needs to be charged.

Not so long ago (about 14 years), the luminous material on the dial was radioactive and therefore was "self powered".

why did they change it? Seems to me that if you were actually using this watch for what it was for then you would want indicators that were self glowing like night sights on a gun.

The short answer, it's not healthy for people to handle radioactive material all day, every day.

I don't think it's that big of a deal though, as my watches still give off enough glow (without "charging", just normal indoor lighting, before bed) at 5 am to still read the time.

The material used must be of good quality. My Tag is horrible as far as the luminescence goes. Of course I am comparing a $1200 watch to a $10,000 watch.

I can read those technical documents over and over again, I love stuff like this.

Also, I can be wrong but the luminescent material lose it`s ability to glow over time. I do know that tritium watches have a half life so will lose glow over time.

That's true but the life is usually like 20 years, that a long time. Not that it will keep me from one day buying a deepsea.

V series 116660 question: My clasp code is 6VM. What does that mean? I thought clasp codes were random after G series?

Cannot see why the cost of the watch would make the lume better,Rolex in general there Lume was not the best through out the decades.Watches like most Seiko,Citizen dive type and Omega watches had much brighter lume than any Rolex.And lume glow is not down to cost alone its down to total lume surface area. The more surface area the brighter the lume this is why now we see maxi type dials on the Rolex sports models.
