Okay so I'm a bit vain but when spending that much money I'd sort of want it to be recognized as a Rolex.
I was wearing sweats and a T shirt and it still looked like it belonged on my wrist. And I know it would look great with a suit or a tux. Now saving my pennies so I can contact a trusted TRF seller and bring it home.
I don't worry if other people notice my watch and thought the smooth bezel blue DJII was the one for me but the way the sun sparkles off the fluted bezel esp combined with a sunburst dial is just mesmerising and enthralling so I think that's the one I would pick too.

I'm assuming that the ritual is the same for all high end AD's but don't you just love it when the salesman puts on those white gloves to present the watch? It comes out of the display case, gets buffed up and then placed on your wrist. I just thought it was cool.

Datejust is definitely a wear it everyday, all the time watch. If you look at the characteristics of it: waterproof, stainless steel (not as delicate as leather), and lume that glows in the dark. It has everything you need to face whatever happens any day. It just happens to look dressy, so it looks great suited up also.

I guess my choice will also depend on what I decide to do with my Omega Seamaster AT. If I keep it I would go with the SubC. If I sell it then I'd go with the DJII since they have a similar look.
DJII anywhere and everywhere

After seeing the DJII in person, and having it on my wrist, I can agree 100%. I just love the blue stick dial with fluted bezel and have decided to sell my Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra to help finance the purchase. The blue dial is so rich looking it's hard to describe unless you've actually seen it. It definitely sang to me and I don't think I could ever tire of looking at that dial.

DJII is a fantastic watch, will work both with casual and formal wear in my book, a true allrounder...

I own both, either is perfect for everyday. I love my the DJII with fluted bezel and blue index dial. It was hard for me to pick between the fluted bezel and the smooth, in the end I went with the WG fluted. You cant go wrong with either. Very good taste there my good man. Go to the AD in your area and try on both. Once you have a winner, there are many trusted sellers in this forum that can save you money on a new watch. Cheers...

Well, I sold my Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra on ebay and got $30 less than I paid for it brand new 8 years ago. Needless to say I was thrilled with the deal. I still don't have enough saved for my first Rolex but every spare dollar I have is going toward the purchase. I'm still leaning toward the DJII, blue stick dial with fluted bezel but the SubC with date is still an option.

Everyday watch with style my friend. My Dad had a two-tone Datejust and wore it everyday for twenty-five years.

I wear mine most days - it's very comfortable and discreet. In black baton smooth bezel, it straddles casual and formal very wellIMG_0883.jpg

I had this one,

But was never fully in love with the smooth bezel. Traded it off. But missed the blue sunburst dial DJ2 so badly that I just added this to the collection...

Which is now my favorite Rolex that I've owned, of the 8 I've bought over the past 1.5 years. And I wear it every day, with any attire. Can't beat a DJ2 for everyday wear.

More enabling, I guess. I tried almost all configuration of the DJII. I currently own 2 DJIIs. That's how much I like it.
This was my first Rolex

Then many watches later, this
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1422627878.854729.jpg

I also love the blue dials (stick and roman) but I have another blue dial watch.

I'm in the exact same boat Angelo. I will be buying one Rolex so I have to make the best possible decision. As much as I'd like to have 4 or 5, it's never going to happen. I've been researching them and saving for about a year. I have the money ready, but I am still not sure which one to get. I'm down to the Milgauss (white or black), DJ2 (white, black or blue), the Explorer and the Explorer 2 (white). As much as I love the Submariner, it is too close to my Tag Heuer Aquaracer. Also, as a one watch Rollie guy I feel like the DJ2 works in more situations than the Sub. There certainly doesn't seem to be any wrong answers.

If pressed today, I'd probably go black DJ2 with smooth bezel. As much as I badly want the white Milgauss, I'm just not sure I'd like it as much 20 years from now. The DJ2 is such a safe play.

It's funny how you resurrected this thread Mike. I was actually in an AD just a few hours ago and looked at all of the watches that you mentioned...and I like them all. I recently picked up a Tudor Black Bay blue bezel which is a great piece that is really a sharp looking watch. That being the case, if I had to buy today I would probably go for the DJII white stick dial since I now have a black dial sport watch. That'll probably be my first and only Rolex as well. In my mind I've gone back and forth between the black, blue, silver, and white DJII's but the more I see it the more I like the white one.
You're right about one thing though. There are no wrong answers and any of the one's you're considering would be a great choice. Enjoy the hunt!

Rolex Oysters are not really dress watches. Some are more dressy than others but they are all essentially everyday watches. Rolex dress lineup is the Cellini.

Congrats on the Tudor Angelo! I like them a lot. I'm in the middle of fly-over country, so there is only one local AD and they do not yet have the Tudor line, but they will have it this summer. Good call on the white stick DJ2. Hope to see some pictures soon!

I like your thinking on that Neil, however the Tag serves a pretty good purpose of being a nice watch, but not too nice for some rough work environments. I know Rolex are tough as nails, but for the coin we are plucking down on them, I'd rather the Tag took the beating and save the Rolie for everything else.
