I know Karl has one, but does anyone still on the forum have one? I cant think of any and people here have everything
Saw one at an AD recently but it was already promised to another customer. Was completely taken by it in person. Beautiful piece.

Completely anecdotal...but when I started looking for my first Patek a few months ago i visited two new-to-me AD’s, where each offered me the 5170P as my first watch from them :)

Unfortunately, i had to pass.

For me, I wouldn’t buy for the sake of it being less available, for now at least. I’ve said before, and I have tried it on, I feel the 5230g, while very nice, is a modern watch trying to look vintage. It seems contrived to me. YMMV.

you are surely right in terms of availability. but if history is an indication of the future then the 5170P should bee discontinued rather sooner than later. the 5320G will be in production for long, in various metals of course.

What is the thinking as to why the 5170P would be discontinued quickly? Is it just because the 5070P had a short run? I thought that had more to do with difficulty in obtaining the movements, which restricted production numbers Also, Patek has been producing other platinum references for long runs, e.g., 5496P, which I believe shares the same basic case design as the 5170P.

well the short run of the 5070P was part of my reasoning. the other is that the G and R models ceased production so you might think the 5170P is like a swan song for the 5170 series. i cannot see it as a standalone model for long. still i think you have to buy it at the right price point in order not to loose money on. i would not buy at list, but probably nobody does anyway.

maybe. I was also thinking it does have a vintage kind of pilot vibe going on and i know the 5524 didn't stick with you but this is a great alternative IMO. Its actually a big part of the reason im not after one as i love my 5524 too much and the 5320 with the vintage look, brown strap, arabic numerals is visually sort of similar.

Dont get me wrong, the 5170P is stunning and i love it as well. Cant really go wrong at all.

tyler, the 5524G didn't stick with me because it was simply too large for my mannequin wrists:::))). i still like watch and appreciate the fact that is is a non-standard patek. that holds for the G model, not for the R model though. as far as the 5320G goes i understand what you mean - somewhat same spirit as the 5524G. still, you might want to reconsider when you get into the 5320 a bit more:::))) i have never seen the 5170P in terms of vintage vibe ....interesting thought though!

i mean the 5320 having the vintage look. The 5170 to me is pretty sleek and modern especially compared to the 5070 which i also like

I absolutely want to try on the 5320 and its top of my list next time im in geneva

funny though, i have never had the opportunity to try the 5320G. neither in the PP salon in paris nor london. i can get it next year from my AD but after all those expenditures it might be that i will take a break....it is surely a nice piece.

I have only been into two Patek dealers, a local one (suburban Chicago) and the one at Place Vendome in Paris last week. I asked about the 5170P locally and they had it. I was curious to see it after seeing all the beautiful pictures here. It had (has?) me slightly contemplating trading my platinum Daytona plus cash for one, if and when my SS Daytona ever comes in.

When we were trying to stay awake after landing in Paris at 6:30 am last week, we were wandering around and stopped into Place Vendome AD. I asked about the 5170P so I could show it to my wife. They had one.

So....I'm also 2 for 2 in terms of availability. They were both available to me, although I assume, perhaps wrongly, that any watch I am shown in an AD is available to purchase unless otherwise already sold.

It is beautiful. Can’t wait for mine to arrive which hopefully will be this year. Many thanks to OH2004 for his great help.

Sunil showed me a 5320G beginning of this year. It is a very nice and a practical watch with the running seconds hand. It is not widely available like 5327s but I think it would be widely available within next couple of years.

I have also seen 5170P at many AD windows. It is an absolutely stunning watch with a nice weight to it.

it wouldn't be an easy choice for sure. Im more surprised that there are not a few 5320's on the forum than anything, that i dont get.

I always cringe when he pulls out a watch as i have no self control

Most of us on the forum prefer sports watches and that could be the reason that we don't see many 5320Gs

Read this forum last night. Happy to say I traded a 5270G last week for a 5970R that just came back from Patek for a complete overhaul. It's a special piece.

I also love 5070's. Have had several but sold them. Two questions. I can buy a 5070G from my friends in Philly for 69k. Seems like a fair deal. Would like your input. Also, is the 5070 supposed to come with a metal back like a 5970?

The 5070’s come only with clear case back - not 2nd metal back as well.

About the 5070's price trends. This 5070J Saatchi Gallery Special Edition is current for sale for £210,000. Quite a sum, if you ask me!
