I'm in the process of making the call between the dj2 and dj41 with a blue stick dial. Big question is, is it worth the premium for the DJ41, trusted seller here has me quoted at $800 more for the DJ41. Decisions decisions

I saw both at an AD in Tokyo last week. I prefer the new DJ41. Both the refinement of the case and dial, and the new movement. Some prefer the DJII. Your call. But the $800 premium is probably more because you want one now, if you wait the difference should be less. The DJ II was marked down at the AD I visited.

I fully agree about the premium price, time to wait and see if things balance out. Thanks for the comparison pic

Thanks for the side by side comparison

The dial of the DJ41 looks slightly lighter to me In your opinion, were they the same shade of blue or different?

That is the million dollar question. The deep blue dial is what made me fall in love with the DJ2.

As a sports watch guy that likes a heftier larger watch, I absolutely fell in love with the DJ2 simply because it has the thicker bezel and lume markers. To me, its a very elegant sports watch that could be worn anywhere I could my TT Sub except for extreme diving. The fluted bezel takes it up a notch over the ceramic bezel. I tried on the new DJ41 and it felt more business watch than sports watch. So it's all what your after. The additional power reserve is nice but in my collection of watches never had any need for more than a 40hr PR. Accuracy is a non issue with either.

Newbie here, ready to make my 1st rolex purchase.
I'm generally a fan of bigger watches, my everyday is a Tag Aguaracer chrono.

Recently saw and fell in love with a used DJ2 from 2014.
Luckily I've found an AD here in Brisbane who has the DJ2, DJ2 with fluted bezel and DJ41 all with blue dial, can't wait to compare.

Leaning towards to the DJ2 SS

The DJ41 comes with jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, and blue stick dial? When I configure it on the Rolex site, blue dial only comes with diamonds.

So I stopped by tourneau today.

Medicore service as always, but it's close to my office.

I still don't understand why the Rolex website doesn't show all dials that are available for current models.

The steel and white gold datejust 41 fluted bezel with jubilee comes with white, silver, blue, black, and rhodium dials.

All those options are not visible on the site. I didn't even know white was an option until I saw it in person today.

BTW, the 41 with the jubilee is fantastic.

I traded in my smooth bezel DJII for a fluted DJ41 with jubilee and love it. No regrets.

I just picked up the DJII arriving tomorrow. I think the 41 and II are both beautiful. The 41 might be dressier looking with the thinner markers and the slightly thinned out case. For me, I believe the II works great woth my 7.5" wrist and tendency to dress more casually.

I've been thinking about flipping my DJII for the new DJ41. But after comparing the two, I just love the Oversize of the DJII, and the thicker markers, especially when they Lume up.

The new DJ41 is a better/sleeker watch, but I'll stay with the Old Hog...LOL!

I have a pre owned DateJust II and seeing as how I'm not in the business of flipping watches it serves its purpose with me.

Hi Dave. Yes DJ II has been discontinued. It ran from 2009 to 2016.

DJ 41, its successor, has the same case diameter excluding the crown which is 41mm, but DJ 41 has a shorter lug to lug (across the wrist) measurement at 47mm (DJ II is 49mm lug to lug). Interestingly, DJ 41's lugs seem to have returned to the classic shape, while DJII's drop down quicker, due to the increased lug to lug length. DJ II is also thicker (higher) than DJ 41.

DJ 41 also has thinner batton (stick) markers than DJ II and its lugs are less 'boxy' and more elegant in shape than DJ II. These things were done to try to bring a more classic style back to the larger Datejust.

If its of any interest to you, DJ 41 has an improved 22 hour power reserve than DJII, making DJ 41 a 3 days reserve movement- a first for Rolex.

As for DJ II, you will have a lot of options to choose from in terms of dials, but they all only came on Oyster bracelet. I saw a blue azzuro dial with white gold romans on DJ II, made for the Italian market, that has always amazed me, but its not that formal/ versatile.

I don't know a lot about Datejust 41, but it seems there has been significant research and development into other visual affects of the watch, like increased bezel flutes and sunburst dials.

Both DJ II and 41 are available with Oyster bracelet, the latter now includes the jubilee option on any configuration.

The battery is phenomenal. I always expected to wind my DJII. Not so much with my DJ41 which is still ticking after a few days!

I have been debating the same question. For me the best way to decide was going to an AD and trying on both to see which I preferred. We all have our own preferences, for me I decided on the DJ2 with a plain bezel.

This is music to my ears as I consider DJ 41. I waited DECADES for a 3 day power reserve. I bet it wasn't easy to perfect.

The 3 day power reserve on DJ 41 must make life a lot easier for you, especially if you want to change watches or do some work around the house over the weekend.

Then again there are many who probably don't like taking their Rolex off anyway, so the traditional movements are fine for them

So true and nice choice All comes down to personal preference in the end. The DJ II is a fine watch, some say a future classic. There are also so many DJ II configurations out there to choose from, many in as new condition. There couldn't be a better time to buy a DJ II!

You sure about the case diameter being the same??? I could swear someone on here put calipers on it and it came out in the neighborhood of 39.5mm for the 41 and 41mm for the II

Nice comparison. Also, the new movement of the DJ41, 3235 is the main reason I waited and chose it.
