Sorry to hear. Such a beautiful watch but seems fragile unfortunately, judging from stories like yours. Thanks for letting us know. I hope the next insert won’t be as brittle.

They purportedly made it a different size.

If so, that would make it unique.
That would certainly contribute to the added cost and limited availability.

OP, sorry to revive this thead, any update on the total time it took to get it back from the RSC? Mine’s been at the RSC since the beginning of the year and was quoted “8-12 weeks” as well.

Looks like a Mark 1 insert. You will be losing out with the newer darker color insert......

I don’t have any at the moment, but the edge of the inner diameter of the bezel betweeen the 20 - 4 markers was red (top edge that is coincidient with the crystal - should be blue ”ish”) and you could see the spots of red hue in that same (blue) section across the width of the bezel (especially in the sunlight).

At which RSC is your watch waiting for the bezel?

I am wondering about what the ability to get one would be, oh let's say twenty years from now, and what sort of cost would be involved.

Rolex ceramic bezels are not anything for me as I do not baby my watches, and I do wear the heck out of them.

Wow! That was an expensive crack - hopefully the rest of your watch is fine.

While it sucks and all, a timeline from 4 1/2 years ago really has no bearing on what it might be today. Good luck and hope you get your watch back soon.

This makes me glad I used a $50 aftermarket BLRO bezel insert on my 16710. It's milled aluminum that emulates the cerachrom bezels. I'm not sure what the surface treatment is, but it is much more scratch resistant than the original anodized aluminum inserts used before cerachrom. Also, the colors are much more vivid than those on the cerachrom inserts.

The problem with ceramic as a material is that its elongation is very low (<1% compared to ~15% for steel and aluminum alloys). Elongation is a property that describes the ductility (high elongation) or brittleness (low elongation) of materials.

It's still relevant. The physical properties of ceramic haven't changed.

My BLRO has a crack in the bezel. Can only be seen under magnification. Can be replaced by RSC for $300 as it's still under warranty. I passed. I assume $1200 includes a full, out of warranty service.

Just my experience, but I have cracked two ceramic bezels - one on a sub, the other on an SD43. One on a fall from a tree in Africa and the other rock climbing. Now have only metal bezels.

What the hell are you doing rock climbing or tree climbing with an sd43 on ha ha, it’s a lump doesn’t it get in the way? My favourite watch but I think I would take it off before pursuing such an activity!
