Submariners that never see the water are often derided as "desk-divers". Perhaps YMs that never see the ocean should be called "dry-dockers" or "landlubbers." ---------- Rolex Website "As comfortable at sea as aboard a sailboat, the Yacht-Master combines character and performance. The waterproof and robust qualities of this model make it the ideal watch for water sports and sailing in particular." "Rolex has forged a privileged relationship with yachting out of a natural affinity with this dynamic nautical sport and its time-honoured values. The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master symbolizes the privileged ties between Rolex and the world of sailing that stretch back to the 1950s. Yachting has an elegance that the sport’s harsh conditions cannot obscure. Today, Rolex is the committed partner of the most prestigious yacht clubs, institutions and regattas in the world, sharing the highest standards of excellence with the custodians of yachting’s finest spirit." |

I think most people are followers and many end up with a sub instead of say the YM or Daytona because its kinda the default setting of Rolex. |

I very much like the blue and the gray dial Yacht-Masters. The are quite underrated.

For me the YM is a much more attractive watch; it's not got the Maxi case which is just fine with me. |

About the price point. I purchased a RG tt version. im not up to snuff on the ss prices but in terms of a tt Rolex, I didn't think it is an outrageous price to pay.....
seeing that the bezel on the ss version is Pl, no wonder why they ask more for it. Rolex is known for their inflated prices in regard te pm..... |

Terrible watch... no idea why anyone would buy one over a sub...

I agree, very classy, good symmetry, and very comfortable to wear. I was offered the rhodium and blue dial version for $9800 while in Cancun in March 2018. I regret not taking that deal.

Personally i think the YM40 is Rolex's version of the luxury Sports watch. Ie. Rolex' 5711. Polished centerlines, thinner case dimension, and the polished plat bezel.
One has to own one to appreciate the beauty of it. Who cares about whether it is appreciated in 2019. It is whether it will be appreciated in 2049 that matters. Heck even the name suggests it - Yacht Master

What are the chances of Rolex making the blue face YM in 36mm? Then I could get one for the wife and one for me

Because the bezel is too large and flashy. Rolex wants it to be a dress watch and a sports watch. Its neither.

I don't think the bezel is either too large or too flashy. I think it is either a very dressy sports watch or a very sporty dress watch. (The blue dial leaning sportier, & the Rhodium dial leaning dressier). In either case, a classier, more refined & slimmed down Sub (w/date). People frequently name the DJ as the perfect "one-watch-collection", but I think the YM (I have the 126622 Platinum w/Rhodium dial) could take that title.

At its price point it seems your paying for the bezel. It does look like a dressy Sub yet it has a more standard 100m depth rating, trip lock crown and twinlock looking crown guards. I guess it makes sense for its yacht racing heritage.

Has anyone bought, or even seen, the new WG 42mm? I thought there was an “Incoming” thread for one a few months ago but not finding it in search. I’ve never seen one at an AD, it’s never talked about here, even in this YM thread.

Love the watch except for the bezel, the numbers stick out to far for me.

That bezel is definitely The Bling factor..not in a gaudy way at all but still a little much for me.
