Serious question: how do you live without a date function?

Already answered this in the thread.

Yep i've become so used to seeing the date on the watch i find it very weird if i'm wearing a watch without especially at work. My Speedy and Daytona have become purely weekend/junket watches

If telling date or time is all you need in this day and age you really shouldn’t need to spend $10k or more on a mechanical watch.

I completely agree 100%. I check the date far more than the time.

It's extremely reassuring. It's a psychologically thing - I feel more "set" always knowing the correct date at a glance.

Why?

What do you need to know the date so frequently for? And after you have looked at it several times, you cannot remember it?

I am genuinely curious

I refer to my watch for date a lot during my work for signing off and dating.

As such, I only wear the dateless Daytona during weekend when I'm not working.

I prefer my non-date watches like the panerai 210 two hander. It gives the radiomir stuck a simple dial. Truth is, I do write the date all day in charts but my cellphone, laptop, and Google assistant are all willing to share that with me in an instant. When I'm remiss in keeping the collection wound, all the dates need adjusting. Mostly a joy to do but if I'm dashing out late, I don't always set the date. Date or no date is not a big deal for me. For others, big deal indeed. My coworker asked me how I can possibly live without a GMT on my wrist each day. When I told him some of us prefer to do that math in our heads, he only muttered, "savages".

I use the bezel on my 14060m to note the date and keep the clean dial. This is my Submariner “date.”

I’m wondering that too. I never have a problem knowing the date. Today is December 15. When I go to work tomorrow, it will be Dec 16. Just add one each day...LOL!

Ironically, the only time I’m a little unsure is the end of the month, beginning of new month, but your watch might not be right either...

I’m pretty much exclusively into non-date watches - right now the two watches in rotation are a 116000 and BB36. I’ll never give up a mechanical watch for an Apple Watch, but I’ll continue to use my cell phone to know the date if needed.

I just prefer the symmetry and simplicity of no -date three handers. While there’s no evidence to support this, I also believe in the old adage “strength in simplicity”, so I like to think it’s one less thing to bugger up.

What’s worked for me is eating healthy, getting plenty of rest, and staying active. Surround myself with good people, and wouldn’t you know it - I’m still here!

Oh for the date function - I like calendars, they’ve really been working well for a long time me thinks.

I don't adjust date even I have the function. I ignore the date almost on all of my watches.

I have had countless Daytona models over the past 13 years. I just have a thing that I know what date it is in my head, and do not really need the function. I have had Subs and Yms and other "date" watches and always found it a pain to set the watch correctly after not using it for a few days, the Daytona you can just set the time and go on your way.

I will admit that still after all these years if somebody asks me for the date I look at my watch even though it is not there. I still never get the date wrong!

After owning watches with rotating bezels for 30 years, my question is how one can live without one. Much more utility than a date.

I have to travel so much for work and change time zones that it’s not always accurate. I keep my time to set to my home in the Middle East. I have to rely on my computer or phone to keep me up to date.

Date on the dial? Meh, couldn’t care less. Over have of my watches have a date function and its hit or miss if I bother setting it correctly. As long as my watch is at the correct time I am happy.

I have some with date and some without.....my EXp2 16570 has the date function but I can’t be arsed setting the date as it’s too much hassle to set, just set the time and go.
