1. Rolex Submariner steel date (yes, the original Sub came without the date but the cyclops is the new contemporary Rolex look which gets recognized).
2. Two-tone DateJust (80'S icon) 3. Yellow gold Day-Date (the prez watch) 4. Pepsi GMT Master In my mind there's absolutely no doubt that Submariner is the quintessential Rolex.

Have to go with either the sub or the DateJust two-tone. Here is my DJ with the silver/white dial - 35+ years old and still looking great! I gave it to my son when he turned 25. I asked him which one he wanted, thinking he would rather have the sub, but he wanted the exact one I had been wearing for the last 35 year.

As much as I would love to call other models that I like more, I can't help but say, Submariner.

For me, definitely the TT DJ and the DD. The sub would be for later generations as they were not well known by the general population when I bought my 1680 sub in 1978.

First that comes to mind is the Daytona(platinum), a little bit unorthodox but it’s the new “you made it watch” for me

To non watch enthusiasts, they just imagine some blend of sub, day date, datejust, yachtmaster. You have to actually be interested in these things to start telling them apart. For everyone else, it’s just a Rolex.

Before I got into Rolex, or Swiss watches in general, the image of a two tone black dial Submariner Date, with a fixation on the cyclops, popped in my head if I heard someone mention "Rolex", even before I knew it was called a "Submariner". Must have seen one as my first Rolex and the image always stuck in my mind or something.

It might be easier to list the non quintessential models... Yacht-Master, Milgauss, Explorer - the general public has no awareness of these models. But I don't see any reasonable way to pick between DJ/DD/GMT/Sub/Daytona for the most quintessential award... and that's what makes Rolex, Rolex. 60+ years of 5 hugely iconic models, who else can claim that?
