Smooth with a ice blue dial said PT. They should have saved the fluted for the Sky Dweller PT and put it on some unique strap. Everyone will have a different opinion and ultimately get what they like. My DD PT with the polished blue romans is the most beautiful watch they have ever made in MY opinion 👍. It’s discontinued and I will never sell it, but then again I have never sold any of my Rolex.

Platinum DDs are meant to have the smooth bezel. It is the only differentiator between platinum and WG.
Fluted bezel is great on other metals but I wouldn’t want it on my platinum DD.
To each their own though!

For many years. Granted, my windows are lightly tinted, but no issue whatsoever.

2022 Day Date platinum.. OMG ! HATE THE FLUTED BEZEL !

I think the fluted bezel is a great addition on the PT DD line, but they should have kept the smooth bezel option as they had before on the 6 series WG line (118209 smooth and 118239 fluted versions)

What about lume?

I love the new fluted 40mm day date with ice blue romans. But I wish it had lume! All my other watches have lume and I find it very useful at night. I concede it possibly is dressier without the lumed hands and hours but I really like lume. I dont like the models with lume, only the ice blue roman dial. What do you think? If I love lume (I wear my watch to bed at night too),

Am I making a mistake to go with the stunning Reference 228236?? (Cant stand the lumed grid dial version).

I understand that the smooth bezel was the trademark of the platinum but, visually-speaking, the fluted bezel ALWAYS beats the smooth...IMO lol

HA ! I LOVE how people have opinions on this bezel thing ! AND Screwly !!!!
I am happy to see it on your wrist..... BUT I STILL HATE IT ! BIG TIME ! LOL

BUT !!! YOU KNOW WHAT ???? it doesn't matter ANYMORE because i GOT mine
from the AD on May 13th and it JUST happen to come in WITH THE SMOOTH BEZEL !
HORRAY !!!!! i am SOOOO HAPPY !

Now i dont have to worry about getting stuck with the fluted bezel ANYMORE !
I am happy for those of you that like the fluted. I dont really know what i would have done if mine had come in like that. I was lucky it didnt.

I hope you all get the one you want at some point. For me... the wait is over....
and the worry about the fluted bezel is history.

Whoa. This post is seriously mental. Just trying to interpret the emphasis intended by the all caps words. WTF? Someone seems to be trying to convince oneself of something here. LOL.

OH ! HAHAHA ! Oh dear ! I didnt mean that to sound like THAT at ALL !
LOL ! the all caps just means that i am either REALLY happy or REALLY
not happy about something. I'm smiling thinking about it. I'm the one that started the whole ' I hate the fluted platinum bezel' thread in the first
place. you have NO idea HOW HAPPY i am that my watch came in with the smooth bezel ! Thats all it is..... OMG ! I am just THRILLED beyond words.
LOL ! I could have gotten stuck with the fluted bezel.... but i didnt.
and for THAT.... I am so grateful. I am certainly not trying to convince
myself otherwise. and yes ! I could be seriously mental about being so
happy about all this. I LOVE watches and to be able to get what i wanted under the current market conditions ! well.... i am over the moon excited about it. Thats all. lol Thanks for your comment.... it gave me a good laugh.

Quite an animated post. Enjoy your new smooth bezel DD40.

Would’ve been best to have an option for both bezels.

I can’t see the point in the fluted bezel either. What differentiated the previous Platinum was precisely the smooth bezel. The fact it’s available with other colored dials (than the ice) further compounds the anonymity. May as well get a white gold, or as a matter of fact, stick to steel and save 60%. Bad move by Rolex, but they’re doing it more and more often lately. WG GMT Pepsi, etc

I totally agree with you.... a choice of either bezel would have been the way
to go. I just cant see why they wouldn't want to do that. But then... LOL
Thats Rolex for ya.

Do you understand what this means ? This is the first fluted platinum bezel ( I hate the smooth, makes it look like a lady’s watch).
That means that we will probably in a not to distant future see a platinum skydweller!

PS
Also no one of you have noticed, hint for you.
Go to Rolex website and have a look at the dial options for a yellow gold dd40.
Now that is a sleeper!! Money green baby :)
platinum skydweller? no way!

All the options on this fluted model look good but the meteorite dial with baguettes is an 11/10.

Wow!

Rolex will keep this option for coming years. If you get everything this year, what will be left for next year :)

No it was at the duetsch event at the galleria boutique. They always do a good job and do a goodie bag every year. Got a cool Rolex pen this year

is the platinum fluted bezel more scratch resistance than white gold? since platinum is stronger than gold.

I'm not so sure that would happen. The Skydweller range has (and has had since it came out) the Precious Metal offerings pretty well served to date with WG/YG and RG so I can't see it going Platinum as well. But IF it did it would be an immense piece....and what a weight on the wrist it would be too.

Let's see what 2023 brings us!

That looks incredible!

I think people that are complaining about the fluted bezel have to ask themselves, do YOU think the smooth bezel looks better, OR are you just concerned that other folks know you are wearing a platinum watch?
