As both a new member of this forum AND a recent owner of a SD43 TT, I too love this thread.

Newly acquired. Flipped a blue dial yachtmaster I had for 5 years. Was getting bored of it. Very happy with my choice

Not sure if this has been asked on this thread before, but I know that some collectors get super deep into the weeds on the slight variations that happens with watches over the decades. Things like the dot over 90 in Speedmasters and double red Sea Dwellers.

The SD43 has a bit of that in that the first year's production (predominately the 2018 year...which might have bled over into 2019) has the Mk 1 dial. The difference being that after 2018, the dial switch from "Swiss Made" to "Swiss [Rolex Crown] Made." There were also differences in the fonts used for the depth rating.

I think the Rolex crown between Swiss and Made became standard to denote the new 3235 caliber being used, but for some reason, that change didn't make it to the dials until later.

Does this make a difference in collectibility? Or is this something only Rolex nerds will ever get involved in?

Generally the MK1 is considered more collectible because it is the "true" anniversary model. It was produced for roughly the first year of production only. Mid 2017 (50th year of the SD) through sometime in early to mid 2018. Sometime in 2018 the dial changed with the coronet being added between the Swiss and Made, even though the movement did not change.

Does it matter? Well little things like this do matter to collectors, hense we have the MK1 and MK2 designations. Does it matter to most average owners? Doubt it. The MK1 will probably fetch a small premium over the MK2 but in the end the Sea Dweller is a niche watch and will never see (in my view) sky rocketing premiums of something like a Daytona C, and that's just fine to me.

One more picture for those who have it in the safe to pull it out and wear it and for those who are considering it to go buy it :-)

New Model 126600-0002

The original model, Reference 126600-0001, has been replaced with a new reference 126600-0002.

The majority of the aesthetic and technical characteristics of both references remain same. The prinipal difference is that the new Rolex Sea-Dweller 126600-0002 comes without the Fliplock extension.

Is it possible to buy a flip lock extension and install it on a 126600-0002?

I own an SD43 and haven’t worn it much as thought was too big for me - not wrist size, just over all. I am 5’9” and thought just too big. Now been wearing and realized is a great piece….

Great question! I may add a 126600 to the collection later this year now that values are coming back to reality but would definitely like the flip lock extension. Hopefully those in the know will chime in.

Yes it is. At least
this is what my AD told me.
They removed from the 002 because they considered as a possible "optional item"
not because they changed size or bracelet.
It should be possible to buy as "extra"

This photo is an excellent portrayal of how the dial can actually look like a vintage tropical dial in just the right light

Amazing watch. How long has the wait been for these? I've been on my AD's registry for a couple months now and have a 7 year history with them (This will be first Rolex purchase though)

Own a Submariner; owned a DSSD JC; honestly blown away by my new SD43. So perfectly balanced. So unique. So capable. More comfortable than my 40mm Submariner.
If I owned a two watch collection would consist of a BLRO on jubilee and SD43!
