2000 Margaux.....how is it? I adore that particular vintage, and am always tempted to pop one of my remaining bottles. Must. Resist.
And how's the Ponsot CdlR?

The Ponsot is really good, I got a lot of great savory notes, right at the beginning of the drinking window. The Margaux is at its earliest drinking window, drinkable, but clearly better with more age.

The pic of the Mouton reminded me of these from last Christmas.

Speaking of Mouton...I figured it is time to open another one of these. Last one we opened we didn't decant for long enough.
This one will be decanted for a full 24hrs prior!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Will do -- the last time I opened one of these was about a year ago -- and we decanted it for a few hours -- I NEEDED to truly b decanted for 24...having said that -- the wine was STILL quite amazing. On the nose were hints of blackberry, raspberry with the unmistakeable plum you would expect. There was also a little tobacco and leather there. On the palate the wine was truly seamless - from start to finish. Definitely one of the best wines I have had hands down... I'll definitely report if anything changes with the extended decanting... We have some fellow winos coming over for a little holiday dinner tonight so I dusted this on off for the first bottle.

With the Silver Oak plus these from the cellar, it was a good night.

Went to an old inn out in the country last night with a lot of family. This was our trophy mantle. I'm just glad I didn't get the check

Loads of dark fruits and mineral, and the tannins had mellowed nicely. Chappellet never disappoints, especially the signature cab and the Pritchard Hill Estate cab. The 97 Silver Oak had held up well. Still some nice red fruit on the front and mid palate but fading. Tannins had totally mellowed to present a nice creamy mouth feel.

2011 Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz.
Fruit came from various growers in the McLaren Vale area of South Australia. An intense and complex wine that could have had a bit more time, I feel, but brought by a friend so we drank it now. Still satisfying.
