And did you happen to see any of the Conductor models? Those are the square case ones. I just may have to crack and call my AD to see if they have any news. Or I could just email Switzerland again! |

That's such a weird type of spam. I've seen quite a bit of it here lately. A portion of someone's earlier post is just reposted. What's the point? What does that accomplish for a spammer?

I was wondering the same thing? Just someone trying to get enough posts to list something for sale? I dunno, I don't get it, either.

My 13 year old was ga-ga over your pics. We did some reading about mini horses and I think it was a good reality check for her. Not like you can let them run around in the back yard and toss them some hay every day and that's it. Do minis require the same hoof care and maintenance as regular size horses? I would imagine so. I remember we'd have a farrier come out a couple times a year to trim/file our horses' hooves. And my sister would regularly clean their feet with the pick, and brush grease on their hooves to keep them conditioned. I'd forgotten how much care their feet required... and how serious hoof problems could be if they weren't well cared for.

I was only seeing a series of small blue question marks after his or her posts. I guess there wasn't much I was missing.

The spammer with the smileys: the smileys are linked to a website, and it was possibly malware or adware embedded in them. Any time you see a random post, nonsensical, with an image, it's suspect. If you look at a user's profile to see the post that way, the malware/adware becomes obvious: the smiley doesn't look like a picture but instead shows the name of its web source.
Good goin' Carl! I'm excited/jealous about the Ball, Lisa! TGIF you all. It's icy here but I'm staying put. Coffee, please. |

Thanks for the spammer explanation, J.
Did you guys get a sleet storm, too? Our schools were closed yesterday but most of the ice is gone now. I'm venturing out in a bit to run some errands. We are smack out of Ovaltine - the only thing worse in this family is to run out of paper towels. |

Yep, sleety here, Lisa.
Leo, hope you'll be feeling better in just moments. Pick up Carl's shed pounds, willya? In fact I would happily offload some of mine too. Lunch menu for today: leftover pan roasted trout, brussels sprouts with shiitake mushrooms, butternut squash, onions, and slivered almonds. I confess I didn't cook them, just doggie bagged em. |

J, the seed catalogues are arriving in the mail. They're so fun to look through - I want to try everything. I've already started some tomatoes and giant pumpkins from seed. They're in pots in the kitchen window. On the hunt for good quality caladium bulbs. My favorite nursery just down the street went out of business last fall, so I have to look at Lowe's or Home Depot locally. Maybe I should look at the mail order sites. I'd dug up a bunch of bulbs to overwinter in the basement (for the third year in a row!), but I left them lying near the flower beds to dry out a little and the mowing guys mowed over them. |

Seed catalogues coming in here too. I can't believe that it's so close to planting peas time. The folklore here is, St. Paddy's Day your peas go in. We never quite get them in that early, but the hardy Amish will be out there the minute the spade sinks through.
Every year the same promise, not to overplant. Every year we break the promise. Every year a new take on whether the beans should be pole, bush, or runner. I've never done runner. But there will be experimentation, for sure. I want a boatload of greens, can eat them every day. Giant pumpkins--how fun. We get volunteer pumpkins growing in the compost bins, without fail. -- PS on chicken dinner: let's do potato tonight, since you just had the rice stirfry. |

Lisa, Winter has always been my toughest season to get through and this year is not any different. It also doesn't help that I went out today and did a lot of shoveling from the snow last nite and it was wet and heavy. We have to neighbor ladies who are in their seventies so I also did their shoveling and cleared off their cars and parking spots as well.....now I'm ready for a morphine drip!!!
I too am always glad when the seed and plant catalogs start showing up as it's a good sign that Spring will be here before we know it.....as for replacement plants and bulbs the trick I learned about buying plants from the 'Big Box' stores is you have to make frequent trips to them. This way you can get there as new shipments arrive so the plants are fresh, healthy and not to stressed out(before the customers and employees kill them). Also over the past few years I have noticed that stores like Home Depot are buying and bringing in better quality plants and better varieties..... Take it easy.....Leo
