Most of us know sardines only from a can. I did until we found the fresh sardines. Although a very simple food, prepared like I told in above post, it is very tasty. Picture a warm Summer evening. We have a large balcony that has ample room for a grill. Next to the foil packages filled with salmon and herbs and the fresh veal sausages there's the sardines. Mmmm. A nice Rose wine from South Africa rounds it off. And as a desert: foil packages with banana and Pisang Ambon.

I'm cooking salmon for dinner tonight. It's taken me practically my whole life to be able to eat fish without getting ill, and it's been a gradual process finding fish I can actually enjoy. I've found I like perch, and tilapia is not bad, but even salmon needs to have a ton of something added to it to mask the taste. LOL.

Al loves fish of any kind. Mind you....he's probably the easiest person to please in the food dept. The man eats whatever is put in front of him and has never ever complained about anything I give him.

Grew up eat'n catfish, fried of course, and it was an was an easy transition to grouper and such. For saltwater fish the trick is to remove the black membrane underneath the skin. For freshwater fish, I stay with sunfish; pearch, brim, crappie, redfish and so on. I fell in love with all fish soups, dried fish, smoked fish, and live fish when living in strang places around the world. After Japan I could not put down sushi. Now my wife and kids; they hate fish! Oh well.

For me its fresh sardines, grilled of course, and hot mustard sauce.

I ate a ton of that when I was growing up.....along with beef heart. Have never cooked either for Al, who kind of shuddered when I suggested it.

Gosh, I hope we get a refund, too. We've had so many huge expenses hit all at once - new concrete for the garage floor and part of the driveway, masonry work, kids' school tuition, garage and basement renovation. I've been writing checks with lots of 000s in them. We can't spend any more money for a while.

I love my new Honda!

I've never been one to care what I drive, but every time I get in the CRV, I feel lucky to have it. I also find that my view of the road is dramatically improved, considering that I am up higher now (and considering I have a much newer windshield!)

But I would enjoy trying them if I can find them!

Hubby and I love to go to this buffet type place that has (among other things) unlimited crab legs and a fantastic sushi and sashimi bar.

I didn't even KNOW there was fresh sardines, Carolina! I always thought they just magically appeared in those little cans just like Santa appears on Christmas Eve!
